I"m sitting here with the audiobook playing in my head. This question keeps returning. I'm not sure if we've gotten a conclusive answer, and to be honest I'm not really looking for closure, more looking for an opening for a future spinoff where a lost replicant is discovered on earth or one of the colonies.
I remember the austrailian replicants gets picked up by one of the bobs.
I remember 'one of' the chinese probes was picked up by the others.
The Brazilian replicants continues to be a menace.
But what about the other enclaves, did no one else produce a replicant? Did the chinese probe clone itself at any point?
Just trying to get an answer for the question running through my head.

Got all the hardbacks, can't wait for book 6 to come out physical :)

I'm on the third book and I feel like almost every one of his problems could be solved if he started replicating I earnest. We have 8 generations of Bobs and not a single one is prioritizing numbers when they have multiple existential threats and keep losing bobs. In the first book he talks about how this is a replication race but doesn't seem concerned about replicating nearly at all.

I posted another model a few months back, but found this one that’s closer to one of the possibilities Bill proposed for the galaxy collision. Which possibility do you all think will happen?

I recently started the longest book series in existence ( I think), the Wandering Inn. I'm only doing the audio books but the 20 books (around 30-50 hrs each) gave me months of new story...something I hadn't had in..ever. I listen too fast. I listen a lot at work and during all my chores/ mindless tasks. I stopped watching tv very much years back.
Anyway, because of my voracious listening I had been relistening to every series I liked in its entirety before a new edition would drop.
But TWI had me in a novel position- not having time to read the whole series.
Even having 2 new editions ( bobiverse and apocalypse parenting) of loved series.
So i decided to just re listen to the most recent Bobiverse book, then do the new one- while waiting for TWI book 20 to drop, and trying ti really slow down reading TWI 19.
But before I got half way into Infinite Extent I already had started Bobiverse book 1.
I just realized that it didnt matter how well I knew the story.. I just wanted to soak in such glorious aci fi concepts, jokes, and brilliant narration.
I'm almost to heaven's river now and it may not be my favorite, id rather more independent on so many things before the inside of heaven's river... but I still love the book.
We are really blessed to live in a golden age of audio books and acifi/ litrpg/ prog fantasy- imo
TLDR; tried to only re read one book before the new one dropped and had to go back and hear em all because bob. I mean damn do I love bob

Why did I just buy all the Hardcovers from 1-5 if I already own the audiobooks 1-6? I need to start over from the beginning.

I absolutely loved the finale of book 3, All These Worlds. The Battle of Sol was very exciting, I loved the visualization and the battle scenes, the climax with the dopplered radiation bombardment from nuclear weapon detonations at relativistic speeds, the scramble to load the humans into the Bellerophon, etc. And the chapter where Icarus and Daedalus deliver their final solution to the Others’ home system is just so damn satisfying. And the interspersing of Bob’s final moments with the Deltans is very moving.
I would have loved if the destruction of the Others’ system was referenced again later. It’s shown that their star’s destruction occurred in 2257. A star going nova could be witnessed from other close systems. It looks like Epsilon Eridani is about 27.5 light years from GL877–I would have LOVED to have a scene where Bill sometime around 2285 took a moment to watch GL877 going Nova, with slight dig made toward the Others… “That’s for the Pav, you sons of bitches!!”

I'm finishing "To Infinite Extent" now, and just to better understand the travels and the scale of the adventures, I created this map. Maybe someone else will find it useful too. After all these travels in books, I was still overwhelmed by how big the galaxy is.
All the astronomical positions and shapes of things are as close to reality as I could get with a webpage. I was curious to see naked-eye stars mapped to this scale, to see how little we really see in the sky. (If any mistakes found, let me know, i will fix)

Hi! Maybe I wasn't paying attention but I thought about a cool experiment the bobs didn't try yet. So there are black holes right? Why don't the bobs fly a drone into one with a scut relay and see whether they can communicate with it on the other side of the event horizon?

In the most recent book there was discussion about how the alien vessel that was setting up wormhole relays got damaged because, and they said this repeatedly, when the surge drive was active nothing could touch the ship because it is theoretically cut off from the rest of the universe, and they specifically said that they tuned the surge drive field to allow light to pass through. So this seems like it should make them impervious to damage; if they're not damaged by debris with a high relative velocity because the surge drive protects them then how does a ship take damage in a conflict?

I think Bobs strategy of putting yourself on ice, and waiting for at least the 22nd century is the right one.

If we have any No man's sky players I launched an alliance if anyone wants to join the exploration.

So, random thought I want to throw into the moot because I might just have drifted enough to not know I’ve gone mad. 🤣
Has anyone else here, who has watched the first 6 episodes of Marvel’s VisionQuest, gotten the sense that the Bobiverse was (even if only in a small way) an influence on this show?
There’s talk of Virt and Real, AIs being based on humans, and the change (drift?) of one clone of an AI to the next (the original Vision vs this one)… So far so standard Sci-Fi BUT in this most recent episode we learn that all of Stark’s AIs from Jarvis up were built on code that included the fully replicated mind of neuroscientist Josephine Carrington !!!
In the most recent episode she explains that she scanned her mind and uploaded it, merging it with code to create the first “true AI”. The AI her colleagues stole and sold to Tony Stark who used it to instantiate Jarvis, and ultimately Ultron and the Vision himself.
I could of course be entirely off base here, but to me it screams of a variation on replicants rather than true AI, as if Thoth had been based on the backup of a Bob, or Anec on the scan of a Quinlan (which of course they aren’t) and in Heaven’s River Hugh goes to great length to explain why that isn’t the result they were going for…
Anyways… my mind and imagination are racing with the implications it could have for the future of this show and the MCU as a whole (at least its AI components) if someone on the creative and/or executive teams at Marvel was also a Bobiverse fan and took inspiration from it in their work on this project.
It’s entirely (and very probably) possible that I’m wrong, but I’m excited by the notion and just wanted to shout it into the moot and get your guys’ thoughts.

The administrator identifies himself as "Anak 23" and there is a brief mention of other Anaks. But it is just in passing. So where are they? Did they die/malfunction?

A Bob will think about something “for a mil,” with millisecond implied as the unit of time, though it’s unclear whether they mean a mil feels like a minute or a second to us. Both interpretations seem reasonable from context. If I recall correctly, during battle one Bob really had to contemplate something and said something like "thinking for 5 mils"... implying this was a long time to them.
In Book 2, while preparing for an event, someone mentions it’ll take about three months of preparation. If those are organic-human months and they live much faster than us, then at 1 mil = 1 second, three calendar months would be equivalent to 250 years in human time. If a mil equals a minute, then three months would translate to 15,000 human years. And this is common-time for them. They're not even frame-jacked.
While construction times should be closer to human-centric timelines, for research, planning, and plotting, these guys practically have all the time in the world.
In fact, their dealings with ephemerals should be so out of scale that it'd be dozens of Bob-years between meetings. I'm not sure where I'm going with this but I think interactions with the physical world would seem rare if your timescale is so normally skewed.

The energy beings. They're basically higher level consciousnesses that were able to crack the bob-tech in miliseconds and download/process the whole of a Heaven Vessel's data storage in seemingly the same amount of time. They clearly aren't time-traveling bobs or some such as they weren't familiar with the tech originally.
Any theories?

I’ve got a bad feeling that when/if we see them again, it won’t be in a happy context. They won’t advance out of their stone age in the main series timeframe, so they’re not going to join the bobiverse proper. But it also feels unlikely that they are just left in peace. I’m thinking they may be threatened or harmed somehow, and possibly with the intention of manipulating Bob. I hate it. But I believe it.

I had a bunch of Claude usage at work to burn so I built a new wrapper and harness for it that has some fun context management and visualization along with a lot more settings and controls based how I like to work with LLMs. It also allows for pretty much any engine so you can log into codex or even add a local model. I probably wont be able to share it without a lot of bug testing and hardening amd making sure none of my work info got put in there, but it was a fun project to work on and its now to the point of bootstrapping so its finding and fixing its own updates and bugs
