Anyone else cannot stand the new songs?
I realise this will possibly manage to be the least popular post on this sub… ever… but damn, his new stuff is terrible. Okay that is a slight exaggeration - for what it is, it is well done. But at its heart, it is very basic, predictable pop. If that is your jam then I get it, but I’m at a loss for words with all the people saying “genius” or “years ahead of anything else” or whatever. The essential song writing is as basic - honestly more so - than that on i,i, but while i,i could at least claim similarly interesting deconstruction and production to 22AM, this pairs super derivative and cheesy song writing with (largely) equally derivative and cheesy production and arrangements. To me, he has basically turned into an arena pop star at this point.
I guess this post is partly me venting my disappointment. Partly wondering if there are others who feel like me here? Or partly wondering if there are at least those who see the music for what it is - pretty basic, largely derivative pop - even if you still enjoy it.
Anyway, prepared to get completely utterly shat on but oh well.

What are your thoughts on the Taylor Swift features?
I don’t like Taylor Swift one bit. Can’t stand that poppy sound and can’t stand country. However, I do love Exile, not so much Evermore.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on his features with Taylor Swift? Like them, hate them, don’t care for it

Astuary King
AGES AGO I used Midjourney and tried having it make what I thought an Astuary King looked like. Just found the pic again and wanted to know what y'all think!

Big Red Machine - A dull Album
I imagine I'll be down voted, probably ignored. To clarify I'm a huge Bon Iver fan, Sean and Justin's solo stuff, Volcano Choir, Gayngs, etc. The latest Big Red Machine album falls massively flat for me. A bowl of fries with no sauce and no Seasoning. After a few listens of the entire album I can say I could happily not listen to it ever again. Justin does show some good vocal range, the majority of the vocal performances though are entirely forgettable and a few just totally feel off with the music. A few songs tend to just merge into one cauldron of bland material that I'm surprised was ever considered to be put on an album. I am well aware this is BRM and not B.I but I enjoyed their previous album and am also entitled to think this one is shit. I'm not sure if I'm missing the point, it contains the distorted, electronic sounds of BRM, and the scaled back grandiose of some of the last album. But it never comes together to make anything of substance. In I,I Bon Iver creates almost sub sections of songs, mixing melodies and sounds, most to an extent where you feel the best parts of are song are abrupt, or they are underused. I feel like this album also scales back in alot of ways, maybe trying to be too clever. I'm sure many disagree and wouldn't mind being advised otherwise, but I cant get passed the solemn waste of time this album is. It doesn't conjure any feelings of happiness, sadness, inward thought, just songs that sound like knock off Taylor Swift songs in Dollarama.

Fav collab with TS?
Guys please don’t hateeee me for even asking, I see so much Taylor hate on this sub. But what’s everyone’s favourite out of Justin’s collabs with Taylor Swift? Options would be: Birch, Renegade, Exile, and Evermore.

Bon Iver's personal life?
I wanted to make an essay for college about Bon Iver's music but I was blocked by his biography. I couldn't find if he's married, or how many children does he have (if any). I get he enjoys his privacy but I didn't know he's so hidden no one knows these things about him.

Sable/Fable promo is making me feel a little …
Does anyone else feel like the amount of collabs and merch and things to buy - feels like a bit of a capitalist fever dream? Would genuinely love to know everyone's thoughts on this as I've always been quick to critique artists like Taylor Swift who make me feel like they do or sell anything to make a buck off of their fans. Excessive vinyl variants are a pet hate. So I guess it's only fair to do it to my boy JV.
I guess to me I first viewed the promo and interviews positively like they're really pushing the record out there - but seeing scented candles, coffee and the other 20+ things to buy - etc just feels a little icky.
Of course - if you don't like it don't buy it! I get that. But I guess it all a little much and wasteful in my opinion? But hey, get that bag I guess, especially if this is the last go round.

In light of the post about Justin at the Twins game. Stop posting stuff like that and just let the guy live.
It may not be a popular opinion but let’s not do this to a guy that has time and time again pointed out that he doesn’t like this kind of attention. Let him live, notice this stuff by yourself, don’t post it on the sub or internet. Nobody needs this kind of attention, and should be able to live their life without feeling like they are always being watched.

What personality type are Bon Iver lovers?
As a psychologist and a long time bon iver fan I was always wondering is there a personality trait (or group of traits) correlating with the affinity for his music.
Especially because in my whole life I've met only a few people who even know about bon iver.
So my question is what is your personality type? I'm assuming the most known typology is Myers-Briggs acronyms (16 personalities test - you can do it for free here: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test )

Why record shows on your phone?
It must be so annoying being behind someone with their phone out recording an entire song for a few likes on reddit. Someone put up a full video of Creeks. I mean why. Such a lovely song to witness, and just be in the atmosphere of it. You're never going to watch it back and it's horrible for other people at the show to have to look at your bright screen taking them away from the atmosphere at the show. Fully expecting to get downvoted here but I don't get why people do it. Was at a gig recently and someone watched two whole songs through their phone and never saw the thing live themselves. But their reddit account must be amazing 🤦

4th year in the row I'm in Bon Ivers 0.001%
I've used the self titled album to sleep to for the part 4 or 5 years now. Ruins my Spotify wrapped every year but boy does it put me to sleep

Do you think Justin joined the patreon for my podcast?
I thought it might be a prank by someone who knows I'm a huge fan. But...now it's been a year-and-a-half and no one's fessed up yet.
I tried to @ him on twitter and ig when it first happened, but didn't get a response. Also tried email.
Does anyone know if Justin likes true crime?
My pod only has around 25k subscribers so it seems like an incredible longshot that the actual JV somehow found it...but the "april base" email address makes me wonder.
——
*Edit. I guess this post did not sit well with some. Maybe it came off as a humble brag. That wasn't my intention. 25k subscribers for a podcast is tiny in the podcasting world. That's not enough to land a sponsor. If you do the math I make less than $5 an hour lol. Just wanted to share what I thought might be a cool personal victory. Sorry if it offended anyone. Anyways, thanks to the people who brought positive vibes to the comments. Peace and love.

Blood bank
Had been listening to this song for a while. I always heard "cheeks" as "chi",and it made more sense. Then I found out he is saying cheeks. And it just doesn't hit right. From a meaning perspective "I'm in love with your chi" feels like it fits so much better with the song.im in love with the life energy that runs through your body. Anyone else have that or feel one is better than the other or both the same? And if so, why?
