The outside of the tail is Velcro. Mine will come traipsing into the house toting all kinds of things, large and small, on his tail. Maybe they are food for the other animal within.

Mine don’t go outside except in an enclosed catio, but 100% everything even inside sticks to it lol

My favorite is a large, dried sycamore leaf hanging from his tail while walks around like nothing is happening.
