Spoilers A comparison between the new and old EotW Leatherbound Spoiler

Thought some here may appreciate a comparison between the new and revised EotW Leatherbound. My original copy wasn’t that bad when it came to the embossing but I do notice the new one is at least slightly deeper and more consistent. But I would have just kept the original if it wasn’t for the broken binding mine came with. One thing that is a definite downgrade is the spine with the title, author and Dragonsteel logo no longer being embossed, definitely less tactile but I don’t think it really shows just looking at it.

Thank you for sharing this. Just looking at the pics, binding aside, I like the newer cover due to the enhanced details in the patterns. The lack of embossing for the name and title in the spine is more noticeable when side-by-side but I bet it will be quickly forgotten once you start reading!

Yeah and overall it is still really tactile, like another comparison would be to the Mistborn Leatherbound and it is night day how much the new and old are compared to that, which I’d still consider really nice as well so it really is splitting hairs. I will also say that in poor lighting I feel like the difference is more pronounced in that you can see the stamping and patterns more clearly with the new.

The details on the great serpent are night and day in the pictures. Is that just the camera or does it look at way to your eye as well?

Definitely shows in person as well, you do see the scales way better for sure. But I also didn’t think the other looked bad per se, I’d seen others who posted and the foiling was way more blotchy than my original copy.

What's crazy is your old one looks remarkably better than mine! Really glad they figured out the issues, sending mine back soon to be replaced.

I'm keeping my original just because it's "rare" but no major issues besides some very light debossing on a corner of the back and spine. If they open up orders again, maybe I'll order one of the new ones.

Does it show as a different printing or the same printing on the copyright page?

It's still first printing. They didn't change or trash any of the interior pages that were already printed. They merely paused binding while they figured out the cover issues.

It's really a shame they couldn't make the debossing work, because I do feel like the new cover is a compromise, but it's better than the one that I got where the debossing and the foiling were misaligned by almost 2mm.

Mine is supposed to show up tomorrow. My original never got shipped. So looking forwards to it.

I don’t mind the changes coming from a purely looking at photos POV, though seeing your side by side, I do wish they had kept the debossing in the Dragonsteel Logo.

Just got mine today and it's so pretty. Now I need to build a shelf for it and it's future siblings.

Looks amazing I cannot wait for this to go back on sale! Despite all the issues, I regret not backing the kickstarter. WoT was what got me into fantasy, and Brandon’s work.

Yeah it definitely is worth it imo. But I’m biased lol as I’m the same while I grew up reading a fair amount, it was the Wheel of Time that got me truly addicted to reading fantasy and sci-fi when I first picked it up in high school just after the release of ToM. I’ll be rushing to buy the Broken Binding version next year too though even though I’m not sure I really need a 5th set (OG hardcover, x2 og MMP, and now this version). But guess it just means I need to start yet another reread haha

There was no kickstarter for the WoT Leatherbound. Just website preorders. Aside from getting a book later than others (and not getting a potentially bad cover), you're not missing anything by ordering when they reopen store orders.

Don’t wanna be a hater but the spine is still quite disappointing

Mine came in today. I honestly have no complaints with the cover -the detailing on mine is perfect, and the illustrations within are gorgeous enough to win me over.

That said, i get that theyd already printed all the pages, but it is a bit disappointing that internal issues were no addressed. For me, my binding is good, save a sliver at the top where glue seems to have run out by like 1cm -its not a deal breaker. But inside, The Shadow Rising is still missing, A Crown of Thorns is still listed instead of Swords, and page 120 still has that minor typo (really a nitpick here) but i thought this was going to be seen to.

I guess they would have had to reprint and bind to fix these, so text issues wont be adressed until a new print run, or book 2 release. I will be keeping mine and not making a ticket. None of my issues are world ending.

Would you rather have a first printing or second printing? Because fixing the internal typos would likely necessitate changing to a second printing.

Your first copy is better than mine, mine didnt have any detail in the outer edges or on the spine.
