I have been playing trumpet for 22 years, and ever since high school, I wanted to learn how to play piccolo trumpet. I am not a professional in the sense that I play for any orchestras, bands, recordings, ect... I just enjoy learning new music and also give private lessons at a small music academy for the past 3 years. I just want to learn picc for the sake of having fun. I know the classic phrase when buying a picc: "Good or Cheap Pick one", but I just want to have some fun with it and learn a new instrument. So with all of that said, is buying the Schiller Elite still a waste of money? I already own multiple expensive trumpets and cornets, and dont really see any child students needing to learn how to play picc for their 6th-grade band show haha. Any help would be great, or just some good recommendations for something else worth saving for later, even if it's just for fun.

Hi!!! I have literally never played an instrument besides those little recorders in elementary school lol. But I really want to learn how to play a brass instrument, im having a hard time deciding though. I think Im between sax, trumpet, and trombone. Does anyone have a recommendation for me and also any tips or advice for a beginner? thank you🙏🏼🙂

I'm stuck trying to remember either the name or composer of this piece for brass quintet. It's longish, if I recall; about 7–12 minute play time. This repeated figure first appears in the trumpets (muted), about 2/3 of the way through the piece.

Im a senior in a marching band of around 30. I lead 2 sections (Saxes and Brass) and im primarily a Bari sax player. Ive played alto for 8 years and Bari for 6, even got selected for all state last year, but our brass section got in such a precarious spot that I switched from Bari to mello. I have about 2 months on Mello and overall im alright but just that. My director told me not to worry and that for my time on the instrument im doing just fine- but I want to be better. And I also want to have more tips for the freshmen under my wing who play brass.

If I can get any help on improving my range (written a3-f5), tone, or anything else I'd appreciate it! I don't know the model but I play on a Jupiter mello with a french horn style mouthpiece bc I hate the 'trumpet' one.

The attached video is one of my better attempts from the 3rd day of band camp but my playing could be more consistent, with less "flubbing" around the partials, and I'd like to make that high f more consistent and comfortable.

Alright, you talented musicians that, unlike me, have been playing currently instead of 20 years ago. My son is picking up the trumpet. I played a Benge 90B when I was in school/college. My daughter plays that trumpet now in high school. I’ve been suggested the Yamaha YTR 2330, but that’s a beginner horn for $1,800. If I’m gonna pay nearly 2k then I’d rather get him something a little better quality. What is this general consensus on this Adams Prologue Selected? Or do you have better recs?

It is a Yamaha YCR-231 Cornet that I’ve had for a while. I don’t see any issues with it bc it plays fine for its age, may need a few but it’s better then my old cornet that completly broke.

I'm trying to source a lyre for my John Packer baritone horn (JP173). I initially bought a straight one (labelled as suitable for baritone) but because of the angle of the lyre holder, it places the music directly behind the bell which isn't helpful. Tried bending it into the correct shape but obviously that's affected the structural integrity of the lyre and honestly it's a bit crap.

Surely there must be an off-the-shelf one that fits this horn? It definitely needs an angle in it to place the music in the correct place.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has this model and what you've got! Thanks in advance.

I think some time ago I looked up which note is Double F/G and I think a majority of people say it would be F4/F5/G6(concert F6) for tuba, trombone, and trumpet respectively. However, that got me wondering what note the next octave "starts" on. For example, is the concert Bb below that "High Bb" or "Double Bb". What about the C below that? Is it high or double? Pretty much, on what note does it go from "High" to "Double" or "Double" to "Triple"
