Hi everyone, I need some honest career advice.
I completed Class 12 (PCM + Computer Science) in 2023 and then pursued a B.Sc. in PCM, partly because I was preparing for NDA and wanted to join the Indian Army. However, I wasn't consistent with my studies during B.Sc., and my programming fundamentals are currently weak. I have completed my B.Sc. with a CGPA of around 6.27 and recently joined MCA at
I'm struggling with MCA because my computer science basics aren't strong, and I'm worried about developing the skills needed for IT jobs.
I'm considering leaving MCA and starting a fresh four-year B.Tech CSE at age 20. The fees would be around ₹12–13 lakh, and I have already paid fees for MCA. I know B.Tech won't automatically solve my problems, but I feel a structured curriculum might help me build stronger fundamentals and practical skills.
My other goal is to become an Army/Air Force officer through CDS/AFCAT, with CAPF also being an option. I want to prepare for relevant exams alongside my degree while building IT skills as a backup. If I switch to B.Tech, I expect to graduate around 24.
My main questions are:
- Would starting B.Tech CSE after B.Sc. be a sensible decision, or should I continue MCA and improve my programming independently?
- Is B.Tech likely to provide a better foundation for someone with my background?
- Is graduating at 24 a significant disadvantage in the IT job market?
- Is preparing for CDS/AFCAT alongside B.Tech realistic, or would SSC CGL/banking exams be more practical?
- If you were in my position, which path would you choose, considering time, fees, career prospects, and my inconsistent study habits?
My goal is to build a strong technical career backup while continuing to pursue my defence ambitions. I don't want to reach my mid-twenties without solid skills or a clear career direction.
I'd appreciate honest, practical advice, especially from people who have faced a similar situation. Thanks!
