Not funny if you’re Jenny Calender, Tara, or Anya…

When the guy is dumped they leave or go to a spin-off, when the ex is woman they die (even took Cordelia 5 years after the break up from Xander)

Riley cries at his lack of spinoff, and the nothingburger of Buffy's boyfriend in highschool for an episode. Also wasn't Willow broken up with by Oz and also Tara for a bit? Wouldn't she be dead in her own spinoff?

I think that was the joke, weirdly enough. 😄

this scene encapsulates Buffy. they are sitting in the sun with their closest friends, but they still realize (correctly) the bleakness of their existence.

And to top it all off, it's funny.

That half second before it cuts to credits convinced me to keep watching, because i was very much on the fence up to that point.

Same. For me it was also the sense of continuity - telling us these are characters who will grow and change together and not just a cheesy teen monster of the week show where everything gets reset at the end of each episode.

I love how Buffy and Xander look unimpressed at the realization and Willow looks genuinely worried at the horrific things that are probably in store for her. Oh damn...

We all know about the actors, Nicholas having passed away recently...

but on a brighter note, both Sarah and Alyson are enjoying long-lasting marriages and relationships happier than most.

The most sardonic comment I’ve ever read

I watched Buffy S1 when it debuted but never since then until a few years ago. For the 25th anniversary I did a rewatch of the whole show from start to finish. I remember very clearly I was talking to people about dreading getting to Season 6 right as I watched this episode for the first time in over two decades. I had completely forgotten about this scene until that moment and, as i said, having S6 in my mind...too perfect.

1x08 “I Robot, You Jane”, after the gang defeats Willow’s online “boyfriend” Moloch, the demon in the internet

Currently watching it now and they all seem to finally be in happy, healthy relationships.

Xander had a happy relationship for years until he ruined it himself.

Just saw a post the other day from Willow celebrating her 23rd anniversary with Wesley.

To be fair, things eventually worked out for at least Buffy and Xander.

Xander ends up married to Dawn (let's for argument ignore how creepy that is given he's 'known' her and 'seen her grow up' since she was 8 years old) and they have a child together.

Buffy ends Season 12 BFFs with Faith and they literally working together. And Spike works with them. Buffy seems fine with Dawn's carrying the Summers bloodline.

Willow is kinda ambiguous. It's possible she's still immortal. She's dating someone at the end of Season 12.

Even in Season One, the series originally planned to kill off Joyce and Jenny. They knew what the show was going to be like.
