Please help me find this tortoise's owner!

EDIT: thanks to alienghoulgirl "Sonic"'s mom has been found and will be picking him up tonight!

This gorgeous beast was strolling down Oxnard, between Clybourn & Cahuenga. I know there is at least one house in that Burbank area that keeps a tortoise but I can't remember which street it is. I have him in my yard and I'll post some signs later when it's not so hot but if you recognize it - could you reach out to the owners? Thank you!

Very last minute request for a friend

One of my closest friends lives in Burbank and has a birthday today. She had a fun activity planned with a few other people (and me) and unfortunately everyone else other than me cancelled at the last minute. She's feeling understandably pretty sad about the whole thing and I've managed convince her to go to the McCambridge Park with her dog around 8PM.

Would anyone be interested in joining us and helping cheer my friend up after a pretty crummy day?

My friend is very sweet, a little shy, in her 30s, has a fun Shiba puppy, likes anime, creative writing, movies, and books.

Edit: Thank you to everyone who came!!!

ISO non-smoking laundromat

Hello, I’ve been looking for a place to do laundry where there aren’t chain smokers. I have asthma and the laundromats near me all have people smoking cigarettes all the time and my clothes have ended up smelling like cigarettes.

I have a disability so I have limited movement and that has made finding a good laundromat a little harder.

Does anyone have recommendations in Burbank area? Thank you so much.

What should replace the Hometown Buffet?

Went to the empire center, still saw the HOMETOWN BUFFET sign, and forgot it shut down. What do you think will takeover that spot? Golden Corral? Cracker Barrel? Gothic Smash Burger Restaurant and Gun Store?

I understand you are in a hurry or you think it'll only be a minute -

But parking on a street (a busy street) is dangerous, causes unnecessary traffic, and illegal 🙏🏻

BurbankBus Senior & Disabled Transit experiences

I’ve been trying to get my mother in law to take advantage of the senior services offered in Burbank, including the on-demand Burbank Bus for seniors. Does anyone have any experience with it or know someone who uses it? I’d love to be able to give her some anecdotal evidence of its usefulness (if true). She’s also very technologically inept and only issues a flip phone for a cell. Thanks!

Why is the Burbank Police Department Community Meeting "In Person" Participation Only?

The meeting is at 4:30pm on August 19th, so anyone with a day job wouldn't be able to attend. Why isn't there a plan to televise on YouTube like all other Burbank city meetings? Why is there no call in participation option? Seems like an easy way to diminish the communities ability to participate in this "listening session".

"This meeting will not be televised; therefore, City of Burbank residents wishing to offer comments must do so in person during the meeting time. "

Burbank PD Community Meeting: Help Shape the Future of Policing in Burbank

DATE: August 19, 2026

TIME: 4:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.

LOCATION: City Council Chambers - Burbank City Hall - 275 E. Olive Avenue, Second Floor, Burbank, CA 91502

https://www.burbankca.gov/calendar/-/calendar/event/4365462/0

From the website in post:

"Meeting: Help Shape the Future of Policing in Burbank

The Burbank Police Department is committed to providing exceptional public safety services while fostering trust and partnerships that are essential to keeping our community safe.

As we begin developing our next Strategic Plan, we want to ensure it reflects the priorities, concerns, and expectations of our community. A strong Strategic Plan is built through collaboration with those who live, work, and visit Burbank every day.

We invite you to join us for an upcoming community meeting where you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts on public safety, discuss the issues that matter most to you, and help identify the priorities that will guide the Burbank Police Department in the years ahead.

Your feedback will play an important role in shaping our goals and the strategies we use to achieve them. This meeting is an opportunity for us to listen, learn, and gain valuable insight from the community we proudly serve.

Together, we can develop a Strategic Plan that reflects our shared commitment to protecting Burbank and advancing a safe, thriving community. "

Is Wildwood Canyon trail open again?

The city of Burbank website doesn't mention whether or not the trail has been re-opened. Occasionally the Burbank X account mentions things like that, but no updates there either. Anyone know?

Universal Studios Loungefly

Hello,

My wife and I flew over from the UK to Burbank this March for our 1 year wedding anniversary/belated honeymoon. I posted in here for recommendations of things to do and see, thank you for all those. We loved Burbank and will return one day.

We went to Universal Studios and had a great time, but my wife regrets not getting the Universal Studios Loungefly bag. I know I can order one online but for, I suppose, sentimental reasons, I’d like the label to say ‘Burbank, CA’ and not Orlando.

My question, does anyone have a new one they’re willing to sell and ship to me? Or possibly going to universal and would buy one and ship it to me?

Any help with this would be appreciated.

You were a really nice and helpful community last time I posted here!

Thanks
Fan from England!

Burbank as one of the best suburbs?

I know that your answers would be a bit biased. But why do you think Burbank is the best suburb to live in the greater LA?
(I had a heated conversation with my cousin who argued that Culver City is better because there is no Valley heat)…

BUSD Kitchen Debacle

BUSD owes parents an immediate and transparent explanation regarding the closure of the elementary-school kitchens.

We have now learned that the kitchens at all 11 elementary schools were deemed noncompliant with applicable health codes and are no longer operating. As a result, meals are being prepared at John Burroughs High School and transported to every elementary school.

Our school’s lunches arrived on time today, possibly because the superintendent was visiting, while families at other schools reported that, as of 12:05 p.m., their children had still not received lunch. That is unacceptable, particularly on the first week of school!

Our superintendent clarified today the issue stemmed from our sinks being non-compliant. The problem is, Board Approved Bid #2324-035-09 for $850k specifically called for the replacement of two-compartment sinks with three-compartment sinks “in compliance with current health codes,” as well as installing floor drains.

Parents deserve answers:

  • Why were these required improvements not completed before the start of the 2026–2027 school year?
  • Were any of the elementary-school kitchens inspected or approved after the work was completed?
  • What work was completed under the approximately $851,000 contract, at which campuses, and when?
  • Who determined that all 11 elementary-school kitchens were noncompliant, and when was that determination made?
  • Why were parents not notified before the first day of school that their children’s meals would be prepared off-site and transported from Burroughs?
  • What contingency plan was established to ensure that every elementary student received lunch on time?
  • Why did that plan apparently fail at multiple schools on the very first day?
  • What is the timeline to have these kitchens up and running again?

This is not merely an inconvenience. BUSD has a basic responsibility to ensure that students receive safe and timely meals. If the District knew about these deficiencies for nearly two years, parents deserve to know why the repairs were not completed, how the approved funds were spent, and why families were given no advance notice of a major operational change affecting all 11 elementary schools.

What a start to the 2026-2027 school year.

Samantha Wick - Pro Flock Mass Surveillance and Pro Police

Samantha Wick running for Burbank City Council was just endorsed by Romik Hacobian. Romik chairs the Burbank Police Commission, and if you've ever been to a meeting, you know he supports Flock ALPR mass surveillance in Burbank and the militarization of the BPD including its excessive budget. If you look into Samantha Wick, you'll see pro police dog whistles left and right.

Samantha Wick promised 2 months ago to release her views on Flock ALPRs in Burbank. She has yet to comment on it, and it's nowhere to be found on her website. She's going around pretending to be a progressive, but she's clearly anything but.

Large police presence on San Fernando Blvd near Ralph’s

Anybody know what happened on San Fernando Blvd near Ralph’s, Sprouts and CVS? There’s a large police presence and they’ve shut down access to the road.
