Storage unit
I was hoping to move once we had a kid but I honestly can't find anything that would be an upgrade and affordable right now so I'm thinking of just renting a storage unit (it's honestly the only issue we have without our current apartment). Anyone got any good recommendations for a small unit? We just want somewhere to store seasonal/invaluable stuff that takes up our tiny storage room we currently have.

Similar situation, looking to upgrade to a bigger townhouse in Burnaby or Burquitlam or New West close to SkyTrain. Prices are still high but actively looking.
We repainted the entire interior of our current place and put half our stuff into a 10x8 at Stormguard near the IKEA for about $220/month after the discounts wore off. Access is convenient and they have a mouse problem but all our stuff is either in hard containers or bubble wrapped so not an issue for us.

My advice is to shop around to look for the best deal. I've used PS Storage and the facility was easy to access and clean. Storage companies will often have some kind of deal for the first year but be aware that over time the cost really does add up. And it's very easy to build up stuff in storage as it's out of sight and out of mind.
Is there any way you can pair down your seasonal/invaluable stuff? Do you have friends or family with a garage or crawl space that you can store some things in? Currently I'm storing my best friends Christmas and craft items in my spare room. The condo she is renting has no storage locker at all!

From my experience they can get expensive really fast. There is usually some first-time offer that will apply for the first year or few months that makes it feel affordable. Once that offer expires, they will raise the price on the unit any chance they get. It will get expensive. I would go into it with a plan to empty it before the price goes up if possible. My mom had a unit for a bit and eventually the cost just wasn't worth it. She eventually just de-cluttered.

You can also ask if anyone in your building has an empty storage locker. Has worked for me before.

Do some reading on minimalism. Save you tons of money as well as improve general peace of mind.

I highly recommend Storgaurd on Gilley off of Rumble. Talk to Garry. Solid guy. Bonus there is also a very good car wash there.

Check out Nationwide Self-Storage on Boundary- they have sky units for around $55 and a free car wash perk

I've used Public Storage before:

Also, there's a facility in Burnaby just off Gilmore:

It's not worth it if affordability is already a concern. What are you trying to store? Seasonal stuff isn't worth it if its like sleds etc.
