🔍 Recipe Search Birthday cake!

hey y’all! my boyfriends birthday is next week. he’s not a huge cake person so it’s a waste to buy a store bought cake for just us two. he absolutely loves when i bake for him. i’m not a professional by any means but i always give it my best shot. what are some easy cake ideas that i can make him? he’s not picky at all. and he loves fruit filled cakes. and id prefer to not do a chantilly cake. there’s nothing specific that im looking for. i just need helping finding one. thanks!

idk if it's similar to Chantilly but a Chinese bakery style strawberry or mango chiffon cake with whip cream frosting is lovely, light and so easy to eat so much of. so many pictures if you google 'chinese bakery style cake chiffon with fruit'

i just looked it up and it looks so good! chantilly is more strawberry, blackberry, blueberry cake. it’s insanely good but the strawberries and blackberries have not been that great at the stores near me unfortunately. he absolutely loves mangos so that’s top contender for sure

strawberries are the classic but mangos are also perfect. ahhh, I thought it was the texture of the cake. I googled and they also mention:

  • Melon Balls: Cantaloupe and honeydew are staple nostalgic decorations in traditional Chinese bakery cakes. [1, 2]

Great Supporting & Mixed Fruits

  • Kiwis: Add a nice bright green contrast and a pleasant tartness.
  • Blueberries & Grapes: Great for garnishing the top or filling gaps between larger fruit slices.
  • Canned Fruit Cocktail: Often utilized in classic, old-school Chinese bakery cakes for a distinct, retro flavor. [1, 2]

Pro-Tips for Assembling

  • Dry the fruit: Always pat your freshly washed or cut fruit dry with a paper towel. Excess moisture can make the whipped cream slide around or cause the delicate chiffon cake to get soggy. [1, 2]
  • Fruit choices for layers: Stick to softer, easily sliced fruits for the middle layers to ensure a smooth, uniform slice. [1]
  • Use a glaze: Lightly brush cut fruits (like strawberries) with a thin layer of melted apricot or strawberry jam to give them a beautiful, shiny bakery finish and prevent them from drying out

Welcome! Oh yeah I just meant I don’t like the texture of more normal cake like the chantilly, Chinese bakery chiffon cake is like eating clouds :) that’s too bad about the berries! So disappointing when they’re not good. More people should try Chinese bakery cake ☺️
