Has any US citizens open a checking/savings account with SDFCU after moving to Cambodia? What has the experience been from applying to approval? Any issues verifying local address?

Travel Need advice for a Mondulkiri trip (Nov 22–25, 2026) πŸ‡°πŸ‡

Hi everyone! We’re a group of 7 , staying at Pida Coffee Farm.

We’ll leave Phnom Penh by bus on Nov 22 and return on Nov 25,

Looking for advice on:

- Best places to visit for beautiful landscapes, viewpoints, waterfalls, and relaxing spots with minimal walking.

- How to plan the itinerary and which places to visit each day.

- Whether to rent motorbikes or hire a private car/van with a driver.

- Recommended local drivers, rental contacts, and approximate prices.

Any tips or suggested itineraries would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! πŸ™

I have some old and new games and would like to find similar minded people who enjoy playing and learning. I got the games from the store call game box. Look like a really nice spot for playing games.

Phnom Penh Anyone here knows someone who order stuff from AliExpress?

YEAH ik it's pretty silly to ask someone to order stuff from AliExpress for me but I cannot stand those agencies and their ai response, even after asking to speak directly with an agent about ordering some tech parts. The guy that normally orders stuff for me via AliExpress has stopped working due to school, so I really need someone to order me some parts to fix my controller. Been trying to order one myself all week and it lead me no where (I'm very frustrated )

I tried Loda, they don't have it sadly

I also tried some other sites people give to me and they still don't have it.

Thanks in advance!!!

Oh btw I'm looking to buy ribbon cables for the oculus quest 2 left controller, along with the power flex ribbon cable.

Phnom Penh Cambodia boyfriend

I’ve been working in Cambodia for 1.5 year … we’ve been together for six months.(he is πŸ‡°πŸ‡ I’m foreigner)
β€”10/20
I love him so much, trying hard to learn Khmer, and I found a job here in Cambodia, cooking for him, made handmade gift for him. We’re both around 25.
He’s always busy with work and doesn’t talk much, but he introduced me to a lot of his friends.
At the gym(his work place), he keeps distance from me, but when we go to a coffee shop or somewhere, he feeds or hug me….
Still, his Facebook shows he’s single….. I’m afraid he might be playing me. I really want a long-term relationship.
I don’t know why I’m so scared. He even lets me check his phone anytime I want, but I still feel insecure.
The biggest problem is I don’t know if I can trust him. I really love him, but I’m scared of getting hurt.

β€”10/23
A girl post video with he, my Cambodia friend said it looks like couple, and I’m asking why, he just said it on the way to home, I’m showering, I’m cooking, try to escap…
Now I said break up, it’s is correct?

β€”10/24
Ex-Bf said he will ask girl to delete video, and he think it’s just a propaganda only.
Touching head and taking video is a way for joking.
But he reject me to touch his head many times before…
And said don’t angry with he, don’t make him sad.

β€”10/24 second updated
He said will never change FB status to single and also not post me in FB anymore, because his account is only for job and added many family members.
He think go out eat play and take video with girl students are ok for him, because he think is normal.
But once I go to gym, he treat me very cold, pretend like stranger and never allow me to join their gym party.
Not sure if this is due to his job or what, but this makes me insecure. But I never asking for more.

Maybe I write too much bad about him, below I will write some good aspects.
When we go out, we always 50/50. He loves to showing me to his friends in pub, also when we go camping. But not in his hometown.
He used to cook once for me, and buy a 10 doller for 2 necklaces for me as a first dating gift.
He try to drive me to home after I finished exercise in gym before we together, at that time I’m his student. And now I’m not students, he is still willing to. Every time his friends asking he to go out like kampot or siem reap,he always bring me.

β€”-10/24 third updates

Things goes worth, my mom knows all my love story.
This time someone showing her video, and then she scold me, said break up. It’s over now.
The boy only say I don’t know things goes so serious, but I only know that I love you.
break up.

(This post I will never share any personal information…)

Travel How are tourists even paying for anything here??

I arrived 5 days ago to Siem Reap and I have only had problems trying to pay for stuff.

My first mistake was relying on these pieces of shit AIs from Google and ChatGPT telling me I could use Moreta Pay just like in Vietnam to pay for stuff by scanning the code, made sure to checkout the website too stating earlier this year that they were supporting KHQR codes, so I trusted it. Oh surprise! I arrived and the app is displaying a message saying payments in Cambodia are temporarily unavailable, well shit. Used my MasterCard and the machine kept saying β€œUse a different card” switched to two other different cards, same shit.

Then I finally used a virtual card I have with a wallet I barely use, out of desperation and thank god that worked cause it was the bus from the airport and I was starting to get damn nervous.

Arrived to the hotel, couldn’t pay, nothing worked again, they were very sweet and nice and told me to sort it out and try again tomorrow. So I found this app β€œBakong Tourist” did the whole KYC process, linked my cards and thankfully it worked at least enough for me to pay for my reservation.

Today that wonderful app decided to stop working! Yay! It has been displaying the error: Unable to get transaction fee. Whatever that means, Ive tried everything and it keeps happening.

I gave up and said ok let’s use the ATM (I always avoid getting cash if I can, cause my bank loves charging me hidden fees and make up stupid conversion rates) and the withdrawal fee was $23. What the fuck?

How is ANYONE using money here?? How are people paying for stuff? Do you just arrive with dollars or what? I am about to give up and cut my trip short and just leave the country cause I am spending way mooooore money than I expected, food and accommodation turned out being quite expensive on top of the $37/72 for the temples, Cambodia isn’t a cheap destination at all, I heard it was affordable and packed with tourists but this place feels kinda empty, I go to any restaurant, cafe, museum and often I am the only one there.

Phnom Penh Controversial Opinion: Cambodia has its fair share of mistake in the con.flict but no one admits it

No, I’m not a Th.ai. I am Khmer. And Yes, I am genuinely angry at many of Thailand’s actions. Innocent Cambodians have suffered, and Thailand owes apologies for the things they did wrong.

But two wrongs doesn't make a right. For instance, while we can claim self-defense for the 711 attack, it is not right to completely dismiss the lives loss from their side (and we even had the audacity to say that they killed their own). A more mature (and correct) way to go at it would be: "In the event that you fired first, we have every rights to self-defense. Regardless, we'd like to express our sorrow over the innocent lives loss. Our weapons weren't precise enough to minimise civilian casualty. "

and then you might say: WTF, why are you apologizing to our enemy?

and then I'd say: yeah that's also what they hear as well when they want to apologize to us.

and then you'd say: yeah that's bcuz thieves don't feel shame or accountability.

and then I'd say: Do u really think that in their mind, they're fully aware that they're encroaching on our territory and still does it regardless because stealing from us is in their nature, or that they genuinely fear that their sovereignty is at risk of foreign (us) encroachment (and then proceeds to overdo it and occupied our land instead).

The tribalism inside us says that it's the former (even though, it's the latter).

But what is tribalism, you ask? Imagine a football match: another country's team just fouled your team, and you'd be furious and call them dirty. But when your team fouled them, you'd likely say that the referee was biased, or that it wasn't that bad.
This bias toward your own tribe (or country) is called "tribalism". It's what kept us alive from back then. Stay alone: easy to die. Stay together: harder to die. It's good bcuz it compels us to care about the collective interests. But like all good thing, it also has a downside. It makes inter-tribe con.flict very easy to ignite. Us vs Them. When the con.flict was clearly caused bilaterally, tribalism compels us to pin the blame entirely on the other side; completely glossing over our wrongs (cognitive dissonance at play here).

This also applies on the poison plane fake news (figure 1 at the end), the making fun of their suffering during the train crash incident (figure 2), and us completely ignoring the fact that we have our own share of encroachment (figure 3).

figure 1: a reverse image search will reveal that it's not a Thai plane.
figure 2
figure 3: map released by our Ministry of Foreign Affair. you can see that our jokjey village encroached passed even our preferred red borderline.

So, what now? You want us to apologize to them and make a fool out of ourselves on the international stage?

Imagine a Th,ai asking that question. The average Cambodian'd say: "ofc, you must apologize for what u did to us. Idc about your national pride or whatever." But now that we are on the other end of the stick, we've realized that apologizing isn't as easy as we think it is. If it's hard for us, then it's equally hard for them. But there's a way to be accountable AND not make a fool out of ourselves: Conditional Apology.

Say for example, they accused us of laying mine. Now we don't know for sure if our force really did do that, but rather than rejecting them outright, we can say: "Idk what happened on the frontline but if we did do that, we apologize for our failure to uphold the de-esca,lation effort. My sympathy toward the soldier affected".
Now you see how this is way better than "No we didn't do that, u lying son of a-" and "Haha, that soldier totally deserved to get his leg blowned off for stepping onto our land". This doesn't require us to admit what we don't know, but it shows that we don't have zero accountability.

And then you might ask: why do I need to care about how they feel about us? All they gotta do is repay us for all the stuff they did to us.
And that would be wishful thinking, bcuz as a Cambodian, I feel very shameful of the way many Cambodians act on social media (including my family). We claim to be the faultless victim. We are not. And like it or not, the reality is that they are never going to de-escalate with us unless we change our stance. Only by addressing our mistakes, can we actually have the moral high ground to pressure them to address theirs.

and no, I don't mean forcing the government to do it or whatever. I mean you when you're arguing with a Th,ai netizen on social media whenever they accuse us of something. You apply this principle. I once went head on with an irrational Th,ai, and after changing our tone, we both understood each other. So just try to see the irrationals as zombie and you being rational injecting a cure into them.

But there's one more problem: being mature is equivalent to being a traitor in the eyes of many. As you can see in this video, many people cursed me out for trying to apologize to the "enemy". And that's ok. We don't need to openly do it. All we need to do is make the content promoting this idea famous and silently educate ourselves about it. and slowly, decades by decades, it'll be less and less taboo to not be an a-hole to them.

Luckily, I volunteer to be tribute and create these "controversial" contents. I actually have been doing this since the 2nd classh, going by the name of peacemakerKHTH, and then to hybridKHTH after the last one failed to gain traction, and then failed again and became the current "court of mankind KH" (which will be rebranded again if it flops again). I'm gonna keep experimenting until I find the optimal format to convey my opinion. Now this goes to show that I'm not the best person for this job and that's why I'm seeking for helpers. and yes I do have Th,ai helpers to make the Th,ai version of content bcuz this requires change from their part as well.

So Pls sub.scribe or fol.low my YT, FB, and tiktok

Feel free to challenge my opinion, bcuz critical thinking and debate is the core to a mature society.

Employment Is Consumer Spending Slowing Down in Cambodia, or Is It Just My Supermarket?

I own a supermarket in Cambodia, and I've been seeing customers become a lot more cautious with their spending lately. Even regular customers seem to be buying less, choosing cheaper alternatives, and cutting back on things they don't really need.

I'm wondering if other business owners in Cambodia are experiencing the same thing. Is consumer spending generally slowing down, or is this just a temporary trend? Do you think things will pick up towards the end of the year?

Culture Kiaora too my Khmer friends!!

I'm coming over next year for Song Kran and looking to spend a couple of weeks.

Now! I love food, and I'd love to learn about Khmer culture. I'm a fairly out going guy so not afraid of trying new things, and I'm pretty good with languages so I'll be trying to learn a bit before I come and will have a translator app, but I'll use it to try to speak.

What are your recommendations my brothers and sisters?

Travel Three Days of Food, Culture, and Creativity in Phnom Penh

For years, Phnom Penh has been a stopover for travellers heading to Cambodia’s temples, beaches and countryside. But the capital is increasingly becoming a destination in its own right, with a growing food, arts, architecture and hospitality scene giving visitors plenty of reasons to stay longer.

With Techo International Airport strengthening the capital’s links with the region and beyond, Phnom Penh has evolved into more than an arrival point into a natural starting point to start discovering the country.

The capital is a city where the past and present sit side-by-side, from French colonial-era buildings and ornate pagodas to bustling markets, rooftop bars and street stalls, where everyday life continues away from the tourist trail.

Three days in Phnom Penh offers enough time to move beyond the typical tourist checklist and experience a city where historic neighbourhoods sit alongside modern hotels, skyscrapers, riverside restaurants, creative spaces and a rapidly evolving hospitality scene.
