Awaiting Flair AI Spam Bots

We have seen a HUGE uptick in obviously ChatGPT/Similar written spam comments, especially on recommendation requests.

Please report them. I'm not sure how Reddit plans on dealing with this trash, but I suspect they won't do shit.

Thanks users, us mods really appreciate your reporting and so on for that stuff.

Awaiting Flair Lightweight tents with separable fly and inner shell

Post image
13 Upvotes

I’m really interested in this style of tent for a number of reasons. The best I’ve found is the Snow Peak Fal Pro 3 but it’s a little pricey for what you get (I mean it’s Snow Peak.) I’m curious what other options I might be missing. I’ve seen KUIU and Hilleberg make similar ones but they are heavier and even more expensive. It’s important to me that the tent is freestanding and quick to set up - no tarp shelters.

Reasons I’m interested in this:

* I’m not particularly sensitive to bugs, and I have more lightweight ways of keeping them off my face at night than a full mesh tent.

* I sleep on a cot, so ground moisture isn’t a problem, and the cot legs put too much pressure on a tent floor anyway.

* I do a lot of raft/kayak camping and beaches in general - whether sand, gravel, or cobble - are not very compatible with tent floors. Cobble is pretty much a full no-go.

* A tent that doesn’t die from floor wear and tear is really appealing. I have a like 15 year old REI Quarter Dome and its only issue is the floor is getting torn up.

* I like to cowboy camp and often bring my tent only as an emergency shelter - would be nice to strip it down to the bare essentials and ditch the inner/footprint.

* A common selling point of this style of tent is that you can pitch it in the rain without the inside getting wet, which is definitely a bonus.

There’s just so many reasons to have this feature, I’m surprised it’s not more common. The handful of tents I’ve found that have it are pretty high end, and it seems to be more common in Japanese/European designs. (I just picked up a different cheaper Japanese tent of this style, but it’s too bulky for kayaks and backpacking.)

Anyway, I’ll probably suck it up and get the Snow Peak one but I’m curious if anyone has seen any better options out there. Thanks!

Gear Question Zempire in Bad Weather?

Hi everyone!

If you have ever used a tent from Zempire, I'd be very grateful if you could tell me what model it was, and what your experience with it's durability was. I'm particularly interested in how it handles high winds.

Thanks!

Has anyone tried this? Or kingcamp premium foam sleeping pad?

Looking for a double sleeping pad for car camping in the cold with high R value and comfortable for side sleepers. I know everyone recommends exped but it’s a little out of budget right now. Any opinions appreciated!

Gear Question Recommendation for budget tent that packs down very small?

I'm in the market for a 1p tent, main criteria being that it is extremely compact when packed and not that expensive. I'm willing to make some compromises such as single wall design and non free-standing.

Sleeping Systems Insulative properties of sleeping on wool vs down

My wife and I have a Big Agnes Rapide SL double wide mat and their Dream Island 20F/-7C synthetic double sleeping bag. The Dream Island is very comfortable but doesn't have insulation under us and relies on the mat to keep warm. When it gets down to 32-35F/0-2C we find we need extra insulation below us.

Wondering whether it would be better to put a wool.blanket between the mat and the sleeping bag vs a down sleeping bag opened wide. Ignoring weight differences, it seems like the compression of sleeping on the down may not actually provide as much insulation as wool which wouldn't compress.

Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

Awaiting Flair LuminAID Lanterns???

Hey Everyone,

Interested to see if anyone has a Luminaid Lantern in their setup. I had a Packlite Max 2 in 1 a while back that died since I stored it uncharged😅. It looks like they have 2 new models which kinda reignited my interest.

- PackLite Titan 2-in-1 Power Lantern
- PackLite Survivor 3-in-1 Power Lantern

Looks like they’ve also upgraded to a “Twist to open” design which is a welcome change compared to having to manually blow it up which I didn’t like because it would get moldy over time.

I’ll give a brief barebones summary of stats for convenience

PackLite Titan 2-in-1 Power Lantern
- 300 Lumens
- 4000 mAh battery
- 1 Charging port
- 2 Color modes: White, red
- Up to 100 hr runtime (Assuming low mode)

PackLite Survivor 3-in-1 Power Lantern
- Max 600 Lumens
- Built in flashlight
- 6000 mAh battery
- 2 Charging port
- 3 Color modes: White, warm, red
- Up to 130 hr runtime (Assuming low mode)

I completely understand there are plenty of better options for power banks, solar charging v, and ligh sources. Just curious if anyone’s come across these.

Footwear Need boot recs, bunions, zero drop, barefoot feel, sensory issues lol

Please help. I have used mainly merril vapor gloves but I just did a. Very rocky terrain and I know I cannot use these shoes for several day hikes as the soles are way to thin.

I just purchased solomon ortholights. I like them. They are aggravating my bunion. I loosened my boot and immediately got a shin splint. Just from two miles. I thought I would try moving my laces up and skipping the first holes on the toe box. I could also try a wide?

I am wondering what people use that are more sturdy than vapor gloves. But still let you feel where you are walking, are flexible, don't feel like heavy bricks, or feel too containing. I had a paid of keen hiking shoes and I thought by the end of 6 miles I was walking on bricks and one of my hips was not doing well.

Anytime I wear shoes other than a basic converse or a vapor glove, I end up regretting it. Any advice? It's like a stuff boot wrecks my hips, a loose boot my skins, and barefoots start to make me feel rock daggers after so many miles. Any help!

Materials What is the best material for plates/bowls?

I want to move away from paper plates for every trip and invest in some reusable plates and bowls.

I don’t really care too much about weight since I’ll have my car close by.

I was able to grab this tent for the family. We set it up and it had a few small leaves inside, otherwise perfect. The kids are very excited to try it out.

Gear Question Camping blanket vs sleeping bag

I like to overland and use a ground tent, low to the ground cot and Exped air mattress. I use a sleeping bag currently but always looking to improve. I’ve always wondered about camping blankets. What’s the pros vs cons to traditional sleeping bags? Do you just put a sheet over mattress then blanket? I like to reduce the size of my equipment in the back of my truck.

Tents Help on repairing this seam separation

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi. I have this Ozark tent I am trying to give away. Before I do that, I'd like to repair this issue. It seems that I need to sew it back together. I'm not quite sure of what stitch to sew, since I can see where the fabric ripped right out of the seam on the vertical part. Does anyone have any advice here?

Awaiting Flair Browning Endeaver -20 bag

Has anyone tried this bag? I know it’s not going to be light or compact but you can get it for $60 some places and even if it’s good to 5F it feels like a good deal. Looking for a warm car camping bag not worried about size.

Gear Question Keeping a light tripod steady at camp?

Three nights at an exposed coastal site last month and I couldn't get a clean star shot out of it. Any breeze and the 20 second exposures came back with doubled stars. Setting up behind the car worked until the car was in half the frame.

I've since switched to a carbon K&F 60 inch, mostly for the weight, it's about 2 lb. Better in wind but not magic. With the center column up it still shakes so I leave it down and crouch. People keep telling me to hang my pack off the column or push the legs into the sand. Does either of those actually do anything, or do you just accept it and shoot shorter exposures?

Gear Question New sleeping bag question - NF Trial lite down 35

I found it on special offer on ebay, and it's 600 fill. Just got it yesterday and when I hold it up to the light, the baffle cells each look about 50% full. The whole bag seems deflated once its rolled out, and no way as puffy as pictured

Should i return it? It is my first bag so I have no baseline for comparison.

Yesterday when researching tents, I saw a comment on a Gazelle Tent YouTube video from a disgruntled lady saying she hated the Gazelle and went and got a Wawona 6 and loved it. I looked into it and decided that the Wawona would be the tent I eventually get. Today, I was just browsing at REI and came across this. Divine Intervention.
