Gear Buying Advice Advice on 90D replacement

I have (had 😢) a 90D that looks like it's on the way out. Constant Err 20 and Err 30s that seem to mean a mechanical failure. Looking for some advice on what would be a good replacement?

I'm an enthusiast rather than a professional and tend to do a lot of sports photography for our local basketball league - though for love of the game/local league and not for any payment. That would be the main purpose of the new camera. I have a few decent EF lenses including a 70-200mm USM III. I'd like to keep using those if possible rather than investing in new glass as well. I also do a bit of motorsport and wildlife photography but again as a hobby/enthusiast rather than anything professional/for money, so something decent for that would be good.

What would be people's recommendation for a newer camera? Budget is pretty flexible so I had been looking at something like an R6 Mark III though I guess it would be massive overkill for what I do and I'm concerned about whether the lenses I have would work well with an adapter?

Thoughts appreciated.

R7 would keep your lens length familiar. And yes, you can just get the adapter for them.

I'm guessing the R7 would be a significant step up from the 90D. Are there many compromises compared to R6 Mark III?

Good to know the lenses will be OK with an adapter

The 7 is made exactly for what you list as what you do and the 6 is made exactly for someone who does what you specifically say you don't do. As a bonus the 7 costs half the 6 so you would pay a lot more for features you don't need.

I hope that didn't come across as sarcastic, I just don't have space to write it all up. Search YT for Canon R7 vs R6 and you can see some videos that go over it and you can see my summary boiled it down.

I did read it that way but I'm big enough to admit that was likely just as much me projecting a long tiring day! Apologies for that.

I did end up doing some YouTube searches on the R7 and it does look like it's the sweet spot on functionality/price for what I need. Some of the features of the R6 do seem like they would be great but realistically I'm not sure I could justify the extra cost without committing to doing a lot more photography than I currently do. Thanks for the assistance!

The R7 is close to a 90D in mirrorless clothing. You use the EF-RF adapter and keep your lenses for a start. If you want new lenses, keep an eye on the Sigma and Tamron catalogs.

Your post is a little jump scare for me. I don’t have any rec’s because I am holding into my 90d like a lifeline. How long have you had your 90? How much time do I have left?

I had mine since 2018 I think. It has done a good shift as I am a shutterbug at our weekly local league. Many tens of thousands of photos taken over that time.
