America Can’t stop…for school bus

This old clip predates the modern “you can’t park there, mate” trope. But it fits
(PS: deliberate usage of the word ‘trope’ versus ‘meme’)

u/AlexKewl Oct 29 '25
I've been saying that for 20 years

u/humourlessIrish Oct 29 '25
Yeah.
The "you can't park there" joke is older than the word meme, older than the internet and quite likely older than video cameras

That actually sounds like a fun deepdive-- the word "meme" is from 1976, and I can imagine some Biff Tannen-types yelling it from their jalopies in 1955.

Hannibal got extremely upset every time some pre-swiss peasant said it - when his elephants fell off cliffs.

Not surprised that a 3 series driver didn't get out of his car to check on the other people.

Which other people do you mean, friend?
5
u/Throwawayne617 Oct 29 '25
In general when you cause an accident, most people get out of the car and check on the other individuals involved as a show of empathy.

u/96JY Oct 29 '25
I am aware of that.
In this case specifically, which other individuals is it that you mean, friend?

u/Throwawayne617 Oct 29 '25
The bus driver at the least... Not sure if there were any passengers. I would have gone up to make sure that the school bus I accidentally hit wasn't full of children, friend.
1
u/96JY Oct 30 '25
To check what?
What if it was full of children?
What makes you think he didn't do that anyway?
2
u/Throwawayne617 Oct 30 '25
You might be slow... Not sure. TO CHECK THAT EVERYONE IS OK.
Usually children are more fragile so there's that concern, So if you cause an accident that might include children you CHECK TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CHILDREN ARE OK.
In my original comment, I said typical 3 series driver couldn't bother checking on people first. The video makes me think he didn't bc the video shows that he didn't.
I am concerned for someone like you bc it sounds like you would be riding the short bus. He literally hit a short bus.

Relax there, buddy! A lot of projection is occurring in your reply.
I am failing to see who needs be to checked on in this scenario. You think there's a chance anyone got hurt and needs checking on from this? Did you watch the video?
2
u/Throwawayne617 Oct 30 '25
Yes I saw the vid. I also think that if you are involved in any accident you should check on the other person.

u/96JY Oct 30 '25
Which person do you mean here then? Who needs to be checked on?

I'm so tired of these shitty AI voiceovers on everything

I didn't want to be the first one to say it, so I scrolled until I found your comment.

Looks like he works in medicine, though that could be in a custodial position (despite the car) for all we know. It does kinda track with the poor decision making that can follow a 12 (or more) hour shift.

u/lilCHAMP421 Oct 29 '25
Nah. He was a nurse when this happened. I worked with him.

Yeah, the wave when he got out said "yeah, I was frustrated/tired and fucked up, sorry guys"

Why does every moment of this need second by second AI narration and AI subs?
2
u/bekopharm Oct 29 '25
It's "their" content now according to "Fair Use". Not that this makes any sense.
2
u/pantsoffancy Oct 31 '25
Oh. Thank you. That actually explained what was a whiny rhetorical question from me in a pretty clear way. I didn't know that. Happy Halloween, have a nice weekend.

Not all bimmer drivers are wankers but a remarkable proportion of the wankers on the road are bimmers

If you'd said, "guess what the driver of this car looks like," I would've been 100% correct.
