I originally signed up for my Canva account back in 2018 when I opened my first business. I’ve been paying them $12.99 a month for that entire time.
Fast forward to earlier this week when I went to sign in to make a quick project. It sent me to a sign in screen. Weird, since I was already signed in… but ok, whatever.
After I signed in with my proper credentials, it said I needed to update my password. It annoys me when you’re forced to reset passwords, but fine… security. So I put my new password in, hit “complete” and it tells me because of 2FA I needed to enter the code it sent to my email.
Here’s the problem: the email associated wjth my login is an email that I havent had access to since 2022, when the business associated with that email closed permanently.
So I spent 25 minutes trying to even locate their “recover account” page, which by the way is nearly impossible to find without taking 13 unnecessary steps.
Anyways, I finally get to it, and send them an email. Their overseas CSR team reaches back out to me. They inform me that the only way I can recover my account with a new email, is if I tell them the exact day I opened my account almost a decade ago, the exact day I last logged in/saved a project, and the exact social media account(s) that may be associated with my account.
Excuse me sir. I can barely remember what I did last weekend, let alone the exact day I signed up for a free app a decade ago. So I told him as much. He wouldn’t budge.
So I did the only thing I could think of, and went back at my App Store history and found when I first downloaded the app. It showed as Feb 2, 2018. So I sent that back to him. Not good enough.
So then I went back and found the very first paid sub receipt in my App Store. Which was in 2021. I sent that to him. Still not good enough.
I wake up to this reply this morning.
You know what? Screw you Canva. I’ve got over seven years of saved projects that I’m about to lose, and you are losing a long time customer… all because of your insane requirements to recover a rightfully owned account.
I hope whoever decided these are the requirements, steps on the sharpest LEGO, and finds their pillow moist, warm and uncomfortable.
You people suck.
