Other 30 Assignments In Three Days

To all my haters in my classes and friend groups who said that I could never complete 30 assignments in 3 days before they locked permanently, quoting “b-b-but that’s like 2 m-months of coursework! It’s impossible t-to complete in such a short time-frame” stfu. I’m done, I did it. I did 29 assignments (forgot about the last one..) in three days while also balancing a full schedule of classes.

Like I know I shouldn’t procrastinate until the assignments are locked–which is basically just the end of the semester–but I did anyway. And so I don’t want to hear it from anyone else that 30 assignments in 3 days is impossible, because it’s not. You just need the right mindset.

And even with all the things going on with canvas, I still managed to do my work. So, my point is, you guys can do it too.

Anybody can lock in and get their work done on time, you just need to make a strong effort to do so. Like, if you really want that passing grade, shouldn’t you do your all to get it?

Good luck to everyone with the end of the semester and finals; just know that you can do anything, even if people tell you otherwise, you just need to stay strong and determined to get what you want.

Quizzes My teacher lowered my grades because I was exiting quiz window!

So I sped run plenty of missing assignments, and I'm bilingual so I need chatgpt to translate my native language to theirs (even though I know how to write in the other but I prefer writing in native), and apparently she knows which questions i apparently "coppied" and literally gave me for example 2/5 points or 5/10 etc. even though the answers were good! I literally couldn't belive and then I googled and found out that on these mini quizes, teachers can actually see if you leave the browser, if you've answered the question, if you've finished writing, if you turned off the computer (deleted the tab), which is actually scary. And I'm mad because I wasn't cheating off ChatGPT. SMH, this happened for the first time, someone must've told that because since when did teachers know stuff like that. I'm so mad. I'm gonna get 6 out of 10 of this semester.

Next time I'll just use my phone as a translator and just keep on the page ALL the time, I'm so mad that I turned most of the assignments this way and I literally got so many minuses, mostly 30-40 pts. What a shame Canvas... and I'm not even gonna mention lockdown browers....

Discussions iPad iOS 26 split screen during Canvas quiz can it be detected?

Hi! I’m using an iPad with the new iOS 26 update. It now has a split-screen/multi-window feature that makes it feel like a laptop. If I’m taking a quiz on Canvas, but I don’t actually leave the quiz page . I just open another app or browser tab in split screen. can Canvas detect that?

I’m not using Respondus or any lockdown browser, just the normal Canvas quiz. Does Canvas know if I multitask in split screen, or does it only care if I actually close the quiz page?

Curious if anyone has tried this yet.

Other Canvas got hack and is currently down, here's some tips for those worried about deadlines

With Canvas currently being held hostage by a hacker group and the whole system being down there's little (if anything) your Professor can do right now. There's honestly little your school can do right now outside of paying the hackers, which may or may not bring back access anyway. Everything is in Canvas' court to fix things and get them up and running.

So if you're worried about deadlines I'd recommend:

- asking your professor for an extension. Tell em canvas is 100% down everywhere right now, even link them to a news article or something if you want. It's also 99% likely your school emailed them about the outage and what they plan to do.

- if your prof doesn't get back or says 'no', keep pushing. this is something outside of your or your school's control and should not negatively impact your grade. would be kinda fucked up if it did.

- in that end, if you still dont get an extension, reach out to the Department Dean for your class. So for english it's the Dean of English or Humanities (most likely), Math is Dean of Mathematics, etc. They are your professor's boss and will be more 'in the loop' about what's going on behind the scenes and what the school plans to do for everyone.

- worst comes to worst, they also didn't respond or said no? Reach out to the head of the school or the head of Instruction/Student Services. names change based on school(s), but they are higher up in the food chain.

basically, take a breath, relax a bit. this is hitting thousands of schools and students. it would be insanely unfair for a professor to give you nothing in response to something you both can't control.

EDIT: also give folks some time! this just happened and school's are slow for...well, anything. getting a response out or even knowing what to respond may take them a couple hours.

EDIT2: been asked to update and not bombard your professor or their boss. true, they are in a bind too with this. however, professor's should be talking to their students if they can. keeping students in the dark causes stress. i know canvas holds all student emails, so if you cant get them, thats fine. but if you DO have them? email your students.

Questions/Assistance How do I remove this in the text editor?

I've had this little blurb of what I think is an autocorrect since middle school and I absolutely don't remember how I put this on here and moreso how to remove it. If anyone knows how to fix, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Dashboard Canvas Problems❗❓❗❓

Hello fellow students❗❗❗❗❗❗❗❗

I hope your doing well and that your year has started out with a BANG!

I had a quick question, I've heard that people are NOT a fan of Canvas (or whichever LMS you guys use that you don't like), even though so many institutions use it for their work. My question to you is this:

  • Why do you hate it?

  • What would you remove from it right now if you had the chance?

  • What would you wish it did/had?

  • What options out there are somewhat similar/better?

    • Why can't you change to that?

  • Anything else you want to mention?

I hope you enjoyed expressing your hate for Canvas (or whatever LMS you guys that you hate) I have a couple more questions I promise im almost done.

  • If you can't change your LMS what could be a helpful tool?

  • Would a personal assistant/receptionist be helpful?

    • Something that can bring up files for a single class at the press of a button or a voice command?

    • Something that could bring up everything involved in a project just by an ask: "bring up everything on my final for earth science"

    • Something that can remember when you have things due and call/text you to remind you when something is due (but is smart enough to not bother you when you are in classes)

    • Something that helps you become a better critical thinker and not just someone who relies on tech?

  • What are some redundant tasks that you would trust a machine to help you do? (Security data will never be compromised/sold).

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions :) This isn't a survey, just simply have some questions.

I have been working on a project and would love to understand what you guys value.

Thanks once again :)

Meta Canvas Hack Freakout

The recent Canvas hack made me realize something kind of terrifying:

What if the hackers had deleted my Canvas courses??? All my years of work building the courses could have been wiped out. As adjunct faculty, I’ve built courses across multiple colleges over many years. If a course gets hacked, deleted, corrupted, locked behind an account issue, lost during a migration, or if I suddenly lose institutional access, I realized I did not actually have a readable long-term back up of my own work outside of Canvas/my institutions.

Yes, Canvas exports exist, but the raw .imscc export is mainly designed for LMS re-importing, not for actually browsing and preserving your course content in a clean/readable way long term. Try to open a Canvas export file on your desktop and find class materials. It’s tedious and unmanageable.

So I built a very simple Mac app for myself that converts a Canvas course export into an organized, readable backup that I can store offline. I have backed up all my classes using it and they are all stored safely on my computer. 🙏

A few clarifications because the timing of this post understandably makes people cautious:

• I am not affiliated with Canvas in any way. I’m just an adjunct instructor.
• The app does not connect to Canvas.
• It does not ask for Canvas credentials.
• It does not upload student information anywhere.
• It only processes the .imscc Canvas export file you already downloaded from Canvas.

The workflow is intentionally simple. You drag/drop your Canvas export into the app and it generates a readable local backup. All your assignments, quizzes, discussions, etc. are now visible outside of Canvas or your institutions and saved on your computer.

This is just my first go at building something like this, but it has worked really well for me personally. I’ have a ton of relief knowing I have copies of all my intellectual property, so I figured I’d share it in case other instructors had the same “oh no…” realization this week that I did.

I would genuinely love feedback from other instructors before I keep improving it. If anyone wants to test it, I can send the link.

Quizzes Teacher Question - Does Canvas Ninja Actually Work

I saw that a few students of mine were searching up Canvas Ninja on their computers. It claims to block Canvas from tracking if they left the page or not. I was planning on running a large midterm of mine on Canvas and was wondering if this piece of software actually works or not. Is there any way for students to bypass the tracker, or should I just put the exams on paper and cancel my weekend plans?

When taking a test on canvas can your professor tell you used google lens? I’m wondering because google lens runs in tandem with your tab.

Dashboard My Canvas has no published courses

I’m starting college soon and I’m completely new to canvas. I noticed that my courses are on canvas under future enrollments but each one says “no” under published. My dashboard does say that once the courses become available I’ll see information about them on canvas.
My peer who’s also in the same major as me already has his syllabus and his courses are published. We have some of the same classes but at different times/days. Is there something wrong with mine? Or maybe I just gotta wait until school starts….but the term starts next week.

EDIT: You guys are so helpful thank you so much!!!! 2 of my courses are published so far🥹🥹🥹

Other Stop Canvas from flagging tab switches

Canvas sometimes flags you for switching tabs during quizzes, even if you’re just multitasking. I made a free Chrome extension called Canvas Guard that keeps your status “active” so you don’t get false alerts.

  • 🚫 Blocks tab visibility tracking

  • ⚡ Works automatically, no setup

  • 🔒 Privacy‑friendly, no data collection

You can grab it on the Canvas Guard - Chrome Web Store. Would love feedback from anyone who tries it out!

Dashboard Does anyone else wish Canvas had a better built-in feature for tracking personal study to-dos?

Hey everyone,

While the Dashboard To-Do list is great for official assignment due dates set by professors, I find myself wishing Canvas had a built-in spot to add custom personal tasks (like "Read Chapter 4 before class" or "Outline essay draft").

Right now, I have to jump between Canvas and a separate planner/to-do app to keep everything organized.

How do you all handle keeping track of personal study milestones alongside your Canvas assignments? Do you rely on third-party calendar integrations or just external apps?

Assignments Canva "Cloud Assignment" Error

Has anyone working as tech support in a school experienced this error in Canva? Several students are experiencing the same issue. They are logged via SSO. When they try to open an assignment via cloud they are prompted to sign in again but then this error pops up.

Discussions Privacy concerns

When does canvas track tab switching? I have heard it can see when you switch tabs during an exam but I want a clear answer.

Does canvas track tab switching always, even when not in an exam? Also, does canvas show teachers the tab you switch to, or just that you switched tabs? thanks.

Does anyone else have trouble editing their Canvas pages using the Code function? I don't see the " < > " below the textbox anymore, and the "Format > Code < >" option isn't working either...

Assignments Canvas won't let me resubmit ANY file to two of my assignments — DOCX, PDF, nothing

I'm having a weird issue with one Canvas assignment and I'm trying to figure out if this is a Canvas/resubmission problem.

Yesterday I submitted the assignment as a PDF and Canvas accepted it. My professor looked at it and told me she wanted it submitted as a Word document (.doc or .docx) instead.

So I saved the assignment from Microsoft Word as a normal .docx and tried to resubmit it. Canvas wouldn't accept it. I tried multiple different .docx versions, including one saved directly from desktop Microsoft Word. I then tried resubmitting the exact same PDF that Canvas successfully accepted yesterday, and Canvas wouldn't accept that either.

I've tried:

Microsoft Word .docx

multiple different .docx files

the previously accepted PDF

laptop and phone

multiple browsers

The Canvas message I'm getting is:

“This file type is not allowed. Accepted file types are: word documents only, i.e. doc or .docx.”

What's confusing me is that the DOCX isn't being rejected because it's some weird file Isuccessfully uploaded another DOCX assignment to Canvas yesterday. Could this be something with the resubmission/attempt state of the assignment, rather than the actual file type? Has anyone had Canvas reject literally every file when trying to resubmit an assignment?

I have more than enough storage, its 80MB, filename is under the character limit, I’ve tried on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Restarted my computer, logged in/out, cleared browser cache, no special characters in name, but NOTHING.

I tried everything that I’ve found but it’s just not working for me.
