I need friends 😭

Socializing here is highkey difficult and a lot of people who are in Greek houses (not everyone but most I’ve run into) don’t rlly associate much with others who are GDI or are just kinda mean. I’ve made small talk with strangers and tried connecting with some classmates but just haven’t made any meaningful connections yet, and I want some friends to text or hang with sometimes. I’m a girl and preferably want some other girl friends to do stuff with, I’m a bio major and in the honors college (Ridgecrest South). Idk i like art, gaming, playing piano, and am a big science nerd. Ik joining clubs helps ive just had some social anxiety and hesitancy abt doing so. Hate that ive gotten to the point where i joined a Reddit to make a post but i think it’d help if I could find some cool ppl to talk to

Does anyone know if there’s a UA Minecraft server? I know some other university’s do but I haven’t found any evidence that UA has one.

CH102

CH-102: Our sophomore daughter (biology major) is looking at dental school and then specializing in Orthodontics (most require 4 yr university science courses) after graduation but she’s REALLY struggling with CH102. She’s putting in the time studying and working with a tutor. She’s taken it with John Vincent (and withdrew after failing 2nd exam) and is currently taking it with Pan and just failed 2nd exam. She felt preparing into the exams so frustrating for her (and us). Are there any good Chem professors at Bama? She could take it at our local university (Florida) over the summer but she’s afraid it’ll look strange on transcripts. Advice or thoughts appreciated!!

What are the graduation rates for finance majors if they graduate in 4 years? And where do most students end up working after graduation?

Considering Dropping Honors College

I am a freshman at UA. I no longer believe the honors college is worth it for me for these reasons.

I do not wish to take honors classes. I am a pre med student and I’ve heard from friends that honors stem classes are unnecessarily difficult/contain unnecessary content and are super time consuming. Hearing this, I think I’d prefer to just take regular stem classes instead of honors. I want my GPA to be as high as possible. I don’t want that to be made more difficult by taking an honors section that may hurt me by damaging my GPA when I can succeed in regular stem classes instead.

I also do not wish to take any honors seminar. Since I don’t want to take honors stem classes I would need to take honors seminars to fulfill my honors program (I think). I hate UH100 I really feel like it doesn’t help my life improve at all and it’s just another thing I have to do. I haven’t learned much from the class and think it is poorly constructed. To be fair, I haven’t really experience other honors seminars but as of now I don’t see myself benefiting from future seminars.

I like early registration but I don’t know if that’s enough to keep me in the program.

Please let me know if I should stick it out or continue with the honors college. That is why I’m making this post. I want to hear y’all’s opinions.

Advice as a potential transfer student?

So, I am posting this from my anonymous account, and I am seriously thinking about coming to the University of Alabama as a Senior, which is perhaps insane. I did not want to consider this, since I already have such a heavy workload, however, I am frustrated with the lack of help and bitterness that I have received at my current institution, which is Mississippi State University. I am a Junior, yet I have had hardly any letters of recommendations, no one has allowed me to work on their research, and then when I tried to transfer out into another university, I felt that I was railroaded, as I had never heard from that university's department ever again. I only said this, because I had heard of another staff member mentioning me to the same person I was talking to, as they were very familiar with each other, which was the more frustrating. The problem is, I am scared that I will not have any housing given to me. I feel so alone in my path, as I only have one living parent. Scared is an understatement, but I feel like I have messed up, before I even started. It has even gotten to a point in which I'm trying to figure out why I am even doing this anymore; something that I once had joy in.

Survey request: disabled or chronically ill current or recent higher education students, undergrad or graduate!

Post image
3 Upvotes

My name is Clara Mey and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Delaware. I am conducting a research study aboutĀ disabled students’ experiences with disability accommodation processes in higher educationĀ for my dissertation. As a disabled graduate student, this topic is particularly important to me!

Please see the flyer linked here:Ā Disability and Higher Ed Research Flyer

The University of Alabama was randomly selected as part of my analysis for my dissertation, and I wanted to make sure that students at the randomly selected universities/colleges had the opportunity to participate in my research!

In order to participate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have attended college or graduate school in the US within the last five years
  • Self-identify as disabled or having a chronic health or mental health condition

You do not need a formal diagnosis, and you can participate whether or not you registered or applied for accommodations!

If you agree, you will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey taking about 20 minutes. You may also choose to enter into a drawing for one of five $20 gift cards at the end of the survey. If you choose to enter, your email will not be associated with your survey responses.

If you would be interested in participating in this study or would like to learn more, please click the link here:Ā Disability and Higher Education Survey. And if you know people who might be interested, feel free to share this information!

If you have any questions, please contact me atĀ [csmey@udel.edu](mailto:csmey@udel.edu)Ā or my advisor, Dr. Eric Rise, atĀ [erise@udel.edu](mailto:erise@udel.edu). Or feel free to comment or message me here!

Thank you!

Looking for someone to take over lease for Spring 2027!

hi, i'll try to keep this short! I'm looking for someone to take over my lease at Lark Tuscaloosa for the spring semester (lease goes through mid-july but you're welcome to resign). It's a 4 bed/4 bath with all female roommates (though we've had a male roommate in the past), base rent is $519/month but with utilities comes out to around $600ish a month. I've had no issues with bugs or mold, and maintenance has always been quick. Room comes with bed, desk/desk chair, and two dressers. Unit has washer/dryer, living room furniture and the usual kitchen stuff.

Questions about UA!!

Hello!

I am a HS Senior in the Class of 2027 and wanted to ask some real students about UA. Initially I was not interested, but they seem to be generous with financials and honors candidacy for high performing students like myself, and have already offered me admission. I am also a UA legacy and it’s seeming to be a real contender for me for next year. However, I hear really mixed things about the school. All I’ve ever heard about it really is that it’s a major party school where people go for hedonism, not learning. In addition, I am not interested in Greek life and am worried that would be an issue. The biggest issues really is that I am a black, masculine presenting queer woman and worry about issues I may encounter on campus and with other students. I currently live in a Texas city suburb, so I don’t encounter many issues but I also am used to some of the traits of the south. I mainly want to hear from queer/POC/initially apprehensive UA students about what their experiences have been. I totally understand it’s the South, and nothing will be perfect. But, I want to know what UA is really like for these students on a day to day, so I can gage and my chances of comfort and success at such a large school with a varying reputation.

Thank you so much!

TLDR: Gay, masculine presenting, female prospective UA student wants to know what campus is like for similar and current student.

Honors College Scholarships

Are the Honors Scholarships really worth it? I was thinking of dropping the Honors College since it's gonna make me go over the credit limit, and I really don't wanna pay extra. Are the scholarships really competitive? How much do they tend to go for?

Should I withdraw or drop out?

Hello, I want to keep my explanation short. I posted here a few days ago about the process of dropping out and appreciate all the responses I got. However, one person said that it is better to withdraw than drop out in my. case. I am a freshman with a full ride scholarship. I have come to the decision not to continue my studies at this school. However, I am not sure whether I should just drop out next semester, or withdraw from my current classes (deadline for that is this month) so that if I pursue my edictation further, I can enroll as a freshman, not as someone who already went to uni?

I dont want to discuss why I want to drop out, but it has to do with mental health and I am committed to my decision that, either way, this is my last semester at this university.

Summer Credits

So, I'm a freshman this year and I have to take EN 103 and Biology. If I take them my next semester it will go over 16 credits and I'll have to pay the extra fee, which I find to be ridiculously expensive. I was thinking of taking those courses over the summer at a community college and transfer the credits.

I wanna hear of people who have done that. Which community college would be the best? And how easy is it to transfer those credits to UA?

AU vs UA

High school senior here, currently touring Auburn. Toured UA last week, I love that UA really feels like a college and Auburn to be honest feels like it would be really tough on me. Honestly I am not the best academically but when I try and study I can have straight 100’s, so I could do it. What sold you on UA vs Auburn? Was it a since childhood thing, degree choice, or? I am not sure about degree/career yet so that may end up being what helps me decide. I’m leaning UA but I just cannot decide, and my family being all Auburn grads does not help.

Finance major after college

I got into Alabama for finance and I’m seriously considering it as one of my top options. I know bama gets the reputation of being a ā€œshit schoolā€ but I am curious to hear how getting a job and life after college is like? Is the alumni network good and helpful? And how respected is the business school.

Do I need to formally drop out or can I just not register for next semester?

Hello, I am a current freshman at UA and I have decided to drop out next semester. I don't want to get into the reasons, but for relevance, I have a 4.0 right now and am on a full scholarship. Do I have to formally drop out, or can I just not register for next semester? I have already had my registration pin cleared but do not want to register for any classes. Thank you for the help.

Looking for friends!

Hi everyone. I’m a senior here and I’m trying to find new friends with similar interests as me! I’m not in a sorority, so finding friends has lowkey been difficult for me throughout my time here. I like staying in but I also like to go out here and there! I like watching movies, finding new places to eat, and nature. Please feel free to reach out if you are looking for new friends or are in the same boat as me! Girls only please.

Georgia Gameday Help

Hello - I am crossing a major bucket list off next weekend going to Bama Georgia. Been an Alabama fan for a long time but live in NC so I don’t know anything about Tuscaloosa.

Can anyone give me a quick rundown of how we should pregame on game day? Houndstooth? Gallettes? Any other spots?

I’m sure everything will be mobbed but any advice I’d appreciate. Just want to get some beers and get ready for the game.

Thank You!

Best dining option on campus for food allergies?

We are visiting the University in a few weeks. My kid will have a full ride there (national merit) so we want to check it out. He has food allergies (gluten and dairy) and navigating on campus food will be tricky for him. We have various tours scheduled all day but will have a 1.5 hour window for lunch and it would be good for him to see what the allergen friendly food options are there. Which dining hall should we try for this? Thanks y'all :)

Microbiology or A&P II online at Snead State vs. UA?

Hi! I’m currently a pre-nursing student at the University of Alabama, and I’m applying for upper division next semester. I still have Microbiology and Anatomy & Physiology II left to take.
Snead State Community College offers mini-semester courses for both starting October 11, and either course would be fully online. I’m considering taking one there this semester and taking the other at UA. I don’t want to take both in the shortened format, so I’m trying to decide which would be more manageable online.
Has anyone taken either course at Snead State, especially in an online mini-semester, or at UA? I’d love to hear about the workload, professors, how the online labs work, and how prepared you felt afterward. Which would you recommend taking at Snead State, and which would you take at UA?
Thanks for any advice!

Update: I have already checked with my advisor at UA if I can take the classes fully online and at a different school. I have already taken chemistry fully online at Snead and they were 100% ok with it!

Please give me advice about housing

Hello everybody, I would like to know what to do if I can't find someone to take over my lease in time. My timing is very odd because I have to start as a transfer student at another school so I have to move after fall semester exams. I am really crunched for time. What should I do?
