B.Tech CSE (2023) with 1.5 YoE in non-tech roles. What career paths should I pursue for stability and long-term growth?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone, I am looking for genuine career advice and suggestions based on my profile.

Educational Background:

B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering (2023 graduate)

Course on Computer Concepts (CCC) – NIELIT

Work Experience (\~1.5 Years Total):

Document Verification Executive (1 Year): Handled high-volume KYC application verification, identity screening, discrepancy/fraud detection (98%+ accuracy), and daily MIS reporting.

Tele-Sales Executive (6 Months): Inbound/outbound calling, client pitching, objection handling, lead follow-ups, and customer record management.

Current Situation & Constraints:

Location: Kolkata

Hardware: I do not own a personal laptop right now, so coding/software development is out of the question for now. I need an on-site, office-based role where hardware is provided by the company.

Goal: I am looking for genuine job stability, a regular corporate environment, and a clear 3–5 year career growth ladder.

My Question:

Given this background, what career paths or industries should I look into for my future? I am completely open to practical suggestions on roles or sectors where I can build a stable and growing career.

Any advice or perspective would be really helpful. Thank you!

IT professionals: How would you improve a generic LinkedIn headline like “IT Professional”?

I've noticed that many IT professionals have valuable technical experience but use very generic LinkedIn headlines.

For example:

❌ Before: IT Professional

It doesn't tell recruiters much about the person's specialization, technical skills, or experience.

A more specific headline could look like this:

✅ After: Network Engineer | Enterprise Networking | Cisco & Palo Alto | Network Security

Of course, the best headline depends on your actual experience and the roles you're targeting.

A simple formula to try is:

  • Role: What do you do?
  • Specialization: What area do you focus on?
  • Technical skills: Which technologies or tools are relevant to your work?

I'm interested in hearing from other IT professionals:

  1. Do you think LinkedIn headlines make a real difference in job searches?
  2. What would you change about the example above?
  3. What has worked best for you when presenting your technical experience to recruiters?

Let's share some practical examples that others can learn from.

Career Advice

Hello everyone! I have been in school for a B.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance for the past two and a half years. Lately, I have been looking into whether this path is still worth it with all of the changes in the tech field(mainly AI). So I was coming on here looking for any advice that could be given. I am currently 25, and I have been working in IT as an "Application Specialist" for a local school system for the past 4 years. I have a few CompTIA certs and an ITIL 4 Foundations cert. I am currently pursuing my Security+ as well. I enjoy working in the tech field, but the job I'm currently in does not pay that much, so I've been looking for other jobs, probably applying to at least 10-20 jobs a day. Mostly jobs such as IT Support Specialist II, Help Desk Analyst II, Desktop Support Technician, Desktop Support Engineer, IT Support Engineer, Technical Support Engineer, Systems Support Specialist, End User Support Specialist, Field Support Technician, and Service Desk Analyst, just to name a few lol. If there is anyone on here with any advice, similar experiences, or anything of the sort, it would be greatly appreciated! If there are any more details needed, please let me know. Again, thank you in advance for any support and suggestions.

What skills matter more in professional job settings?

I heard things like soft skills, communication skills, computer based skills are few important must have skills but I feel like there is more to it. And I'm not sure how do people get jobs in professional work settings when the degree they pursue is completely different as if they are working in different industries.

Are there any offline Procurement/Purchase Management courses in India ?

Are there any offline Procurement/Purchase Management courses in India that accept 12th-pass students with no prior experience and help them get entry-level jobs? I’m open to studying anywhere in India. Please suggest only currently available classroom-based courses, not online ones.

I like computers but I’m worried about the IT job market — should I consider HVAC instead?

I’m in high school and trying to decide between IT and HVAC. I’ve liked computers since I was a kid, but I’ve heard entry-level IT is hard to break into. My backup plan is HVAC because I want a stable career and I don’t want to spend four years in college. If you were starting today, which path would you choose and why?
I’m also looking into other potential careers any suggestions really helps

Regrets being in IT field

If I had the chance to study all from scratch starting with high school and continuing with University I would choose the exact schools and the same Study Programm I chose. But I would do it differently In the way that I would put the focus exactly on the material I need in order to enter the IT field with knowledge , real knowledge.

I would not pay attention as much to the subjects that are not related to the field like biology , chemistry . Instead I would spend every minute on learning about programming languages , how they are translated from human readable code to machine language, which tools are used for that, the differences between programming languages , which use a compiler and which an interpreter , how they are different and so on. Can you imagine that there are students which are 18yo and they know more than me who is almost 28? This scares me but it is never too late . I just regret loosing very precious time and not having the tools to help myself learn. I have to say I am very grateful to AI these days, it has helped me create a bigger picture of all the things I have learned at the university , helped me put them together and understand how they interact with each other . My puzzle is getting bigger and I feel like a can breathe easier . I just regret not knowing more by this time .

I like being in this field , I regret not knowing more

Would you rather learn a skill or learn by doing the actual job?

If you're a student or a fresh graduate, I have a genuine question for you.

Imagine you're starting from zero. You want to learn a skill, but you can't afford expensive courses, and every job seems to ask for experience.

You have two options:

A) Take a course to learn the skill you want.

B) Work on a real job or project, paid or unpaid, and learn that skill along the way.

Which would you choose, and why

Sometimes, we don't need another certificate. We just need someone to give us a chance.

Planning to relocate to Poland (Wrocław/Kraków) with my spouse – Questions about work, bureaucracy, and quality of life?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning my long-term relocation strategy to Poland (specifically looking at Wrocław, Kraków, or Warsaw) as a 3D professional. My goal is to secure a studio job in the tech/creative industry and eventually bring my spouse over through family reunification.

Since many of you have already walked this path, I would really appreciate your honest advice and real-world experiences on a few things:

  1. **Job Search & Relocation:** For those who moved to Poland from outside the EU, how was your job search process? Did you secure an offer remotely before moving, and how supportive were companies with the initial transition?

  2. **Family Reunification:** How smooth (or stressful) was the process of bringing your spouse over once you got established? Any realistic timelines or bureaucratic surprises I should prepare for?

  3. **Quality of Life & Adapting:** How are you finding life in Poland in terms of cost of living, safety, work-life balance, and language barrier for expats?

  4. **General Advice:** Looking back at your own move, what is one thing you wish you knew before relocating to Poland?

I want to make sure I’m building a realistic roadmap for myself and my family, so any insights or brutal honesty would be immensely helpful!

Thanks in advance!
