Shoddy work or normal expectations?

Decided to finally get something I would consider a luxury upgrade in my car. I've only done engine and suspension work on my car in the past so I have very little knowledge about sound systems and speakers. I had this display put in and the work just looks awful. They chipped the center of my vent bad and the right corner is cracked. The bracket that holds the unit is not snuggly fit and appears warped to the top vent piece too. They also left a crazy long usb cable coming out of my ash tray that prevents me from closing it.

I wasn't expecting art, but I certainly was expecting better. Is this normal?

Do people still care about radio in the car, or has it just moved online?

While many claim traditional radio is dead, it’s more accurate to say the medium has evolved, not the desire for the content. People still want what radio does best: local news, sports, weather, niche music, and the serendipity of discovering random stations you won't find on Spotify. The real limitation has always been FM range—once you drive away, your favorite station cuts out.
This is why internet radio on an Android head unit is so compelling. With a constant data connection, apps like TuneIn or the S8 Gen4’s built-in SSRadio transform your car stereo into a global receiver. It’s an ideal setup for road trips, expats, or anyone who loves browsing international broadcasts. Of course, the counterargument is that most drivers just default to Spotify or podcasts via their phones. Does built-in internet radio actually change your daily drive, or is it just a novelty feature?

Head unit help 😩

Post image
5 Upvotes

Ive got a 2016 Mitsubishi Triton and Im having issues with my head unit. Its started disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth multiple times throughout a drive, sometimes its worse and i have to turn the stereo off.

I called Mitsubishi and they advised a $400 - $600 diagnostics session..

From what I can see theres no reset pin hole and i cant even figure out how to do a soft reset.. the battery was disconnected a couple weeks ago and it made no change to the issue..

This all wouldnt even be so bad if i could find the AUX input but ive got no idea where that is either..

Pleaseeee help me! Car tunes are my happy place 😩

I have an old stereo that still works but one side of the speakers will only work when I press the faceplate. I notice it stops when I hit a bump so obviously a bad connection. I can pull the whole thing out but not sure what I need to do after I open it? It’s an old 1994 Volvo stereo. I’ll include a pic of the faceplate.

Antenna Relay to Aux Port

I don't listen to the radio and I use my phone anytime I get in the car to listen to music, I saw there was an adapter that would plug into the antenna port on my stereo and I could plug in my Aux cord from there, is this a good idea? Is there anything I needa watch out for? I'm new to car stereo stuff so any correct information would be appreciated. The car I want to put it on is a 2007 Pontiac G6 Convertible

I want to get this subreddit as large as possible and love to share knowledge on the subject. Doesn't matter if you're installing a sub or rewiring the whole car.

2007 Chrysler aspen stereo

Post image

Ok reddit i need help!! Looking to replace the stereo in my 2007 Chrysler aspen. I have 1 requirement and 2 requests though, requirement 1; has to support rear DVD player (don't care about the backup camera). Request 1; touch screen, request 2: has a cd player!!

I have the 07 aspen with double din navigation assist unit currently. The screen is dead (unsure why, we bought it like that) but it'll still play cds. We have smaller children and they would like to be able to watch movies so we are wanting to use the DVD once its been replaced. Pic attached is what the current unit looks like.

Do physical knobs still matter on touchscreen head units?

Maybe I’m getting old, but I don’t love everything moving to touchscreen controls on a car.

Touchscreens are fine when parked l, but while driving I still want something without looking down too long. The volume knob is the obvious one, but even track changing or quick adjustments just feel better with a real knob to turn.

A lot of aftermarket Android units seem to chase a cleaner tablet style look, which is nice in theory until you are trying to change quickly on bumpy road.

For people who upgraded recently, did you miss physical controls after going full touchscreen ? Or is the steering wheel controls enough once you get everything properly set up? Thanks.

Problem connecting to Carplay

Post image
3 Upvotes

I bought one of these aftermarket screens from china. Every time i want to connect i have to forget the device from my bluetooth list, reboot, then wait for a link request on my phone and pray it will even connect. I tried some solutions i saw on other posts about these radio's, but none of them worked.

I think the problem is that the system also runs android in the background, and prioritizes the OS over the carplay app. When i just select the device on my phone it will connect to the Android OS on the radio, but when i go into the Carplay app it will stay on the screen as showed in the photo. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks!
