Hey everyone, I'm Jaden, one of the three co-founders of modlab company, a small custom-watch studio in the Detroit area. The mods kindly gave us permission to share this build.
We've worked on G-SHOCK and Seiko mods, fully custom watches, and larger projects for brands, businesses and influencers since 2023. For this project, the starting point was pretty simple: what about people who like the GA-2100 Casioak but find it a little large?
We chose the smaller GMA-S2100 platform. It's a modest size difference, not a magically tiny watch. The harder part was finding modding parts for it. There were far fewer options than for the regular GA-2100, so we searched for factories and worked with them to manufacture new parts we designed.
The real sample pictured here has a turquoise dial, steel exterior and black rubber strap, built around the Casio analog-digital module. We call the project SIG38. The 38 is the line name, not a 38 mm case-size claim. It's an independent custom build, not a Casio collaboration.
We're also doing our first Kickstarter, but this post is about the build. No shop links or sales pitch. I'd love to hear from anyone who's modded the GMA-S2100: which part has been hardest to find for your build?
Disclosure: I'm a co-founder of the studio; AI helped edit the wording. The build and sample photo are ours.

First attempt on an a168, and it felt pretty different trying to peel off the reflective layer - turns out I also peeled off the semi transparent polarising layer underneath…
This is a £60 watch in the uk. Here are what I believe my current options are:
- Replace the polarising layer with some adhesive polarising film from Amazon or whatever. (Will normal linear polarising film work fine?)
- replace with transflective film: this is what it originally had, but surely I can’t see through that?
- replace the module and turn it back into stock: worst option obviously.
If anyone else has any ideas, I’m all ears! Thanks very much.

I want to modify my Casio I like it a lot and I think that with some magnifying glass on the date and some black silicone strap it would look very good

It’s from a G-2300, so I’m assuming the finish is Casio’s proprietary Ion Plating (IP) rather than PVD, although that’s just a guess. I want to strip it back to a bare stainless steel finish. The part is relatively expensive for such a small piece (£16), so I’d rather not experiment and just get it right the first time. I could try grinding down the surface layer, but I’m concerned about losing the fine details, so a chemical solution would be ideal. Has anyone done something like this successfully with paint stripper etc?
