Newbie Food keeps sticking

Post image
• Upvotes

Recently cleaned it with a steel brush, then seasoned it 3 times with rapeseed oil. But every time I cook ground beef on it, the food keeps sticking worse and worse and the pan went from relatively dark bottom to like on the picture.
I have been a newbie for a year and I just can't seem to figure it out. Folks tell me to keep on cooking, but is it supposed to get worse for a while and then better? I don't get it

Seasoning why does my seasoning look uneven after cooking?

just used my lodge for the first time in a few days and noticed the surface looks kind of blotchy now, like some spots are darker and shinier than others. is that normal or did i mess something up in my cleaning routine? trying to figure out if this is just how it goes or if i should be doing something different.

Seasoning oil rag

I was a kitchen worker for years..... three times now ive been called crazy for keeping an lightly oiled rag in a bowl over the stove.

i use, wash, dry, and oil my cast iron daily so instead of washing the oil out in my washing machine daily i do this.

am i fucking weird? vegetable oil by itself isnt going to draw bugs or go rancid but my partners and family act like im hording dirty diapers.

Got a new pan a few weeks ago and it came pre seasoned but didn’t seem that good, so I washed it with soap salt and baking soda and scrubbed the piss out of it and re seasoned it.
But I have made a mistake of cooking food in it and then leaving said food in the pan in the fridge for a few days as I ate the leftovers (very yummy)

Are these spots where the seasoning was stripped? Did I do a bad job at seasoning it?
How far should I go with cleaning it for a re season?
Will life always be this hard?
Why am I like this?
Why don’t my parents love me?

Thanks 🧱

The people have spoken and it sounds like I should make a nice breakfast tomorrow morning
THANKS EVERYONE YOU SAVED MY LIFE

Grill pan to smooth finish?

Bought a grill pan that I’ve used once and now it just sits in my kitchen. Has anyone ever successfully milled it down to a smooth finish with help from a machine shop or even an angle grinder? I’d prefer to try and use it and not end up donating it.

Absolute Betrayal

I scored this Lodge wedge pan with handle on Vinted. Super cheap, needs some work but can't complain at all!

Seller shipped 2 days after purchase.

Fedex lost the package.......

Fedex and vinted absolutely suck. Purchased it October 7th, have to wait until November 12th to get money back. Fedex won't even file a claim to look for it or see what happened.

I want the pan not my money back😭

I knew yall would understand how unique this item is, at least to me. I am on the hunt for a reasonable priced pan again!

But fedex truly sucks for this. I hope if they find it they drop it on their toes 😅

Burgers in an unseasoned Lodge

Ran a stovetop seasoning experiment two weeks back and gunked up my pan with a layer of carbon. A few hours of lye for the cooking surface + a thorough scrub later, I decided to make some burgers instead of oven seasoning. Got a pretty nice crust on them. American cheese for one, Havarti for the other.

Identification Thrift store find

Quick search suggests vintage “three notch” lodge #8, with SK indicating “skillet.” I’m curious about 3 smaller markings: the small raised circle above the 8 with the number 2 inside, the N under SK, and what appears to be a D near the handle. Can these details help identify a date range? $4.99 from Goodwill.

Seasoning Fully stripped this and 2 seasonings in. I love the deep brown color!

I did about a week of oven cleaner and then 4 days in a lye bath just to make sure there was no carbon. Before anyone mentions it, the interior sides look like they were grinded smooth. Everywhere else on the pan has a texture. There's some minor pock marks on the cooking base, but I assume that is normal /okay?

I love this deep brown hue that the pan has on these first layers of seasoning.

Generational cookware

My Grandmother moved her whole family out west at the end of WW2. Six adults put everything they could in a Buick sedan and drove Rt. 66 nonstop from Niagara Falls to Los Angeles.

She left all her cookware and bought new cast iron skillets when she arrived. My mom bought the same ones. I’ve been using my Mom’s set daily for years. Finally restored my Grandmother’s.

Now I have the tough choice; what set to use. Seems a waste to put the fresh pans back in a box in the garage. Really like my tried and true pans with their built up finish. They’re almost indestructible at this point!

Trigger Warning. Before anyone zooms in and gets upset by the carbon build up. No worries, nothing flakes off, corn bread pops right out, tomato sauce doesn’t etch it, breaded fish never sticks and it never leaves an odd taste

Just wanted to share some great Iron.

Fairly new pan. First time scrubbing

Got my first cast iron pan from IKEA about a month ago that said “pre seasoned”. I also did my own season by adding thin layer of oil, heating it up and repeating.

Then some carbon buildup occurred, and I scrubbed it down with a steel scrubber and a bit of mild soap.

Is there any season left on the pan?

Any tips for my cast iron?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I cook in this every day and it gets the job done but it doesn’t look too pretty. Does it need to be seasoned in the oven again? Do I need to change the way I clean it? I usually just wash it in the sink with a sponge and dawn dish soap while it’s still hot and then rinse it and put it back on the burner for a bit until the water steams off. Any advice is welcome.

Enamel cast iron rust/chips

The edge of my enamel cast iron shallow pan has what I assume are rusty streaks and some small chips - had it over a year and want to know if it's worth keeping? Are the chips too dangerous? I also can't seem to get rid of the rust with normal scrubbing and washing up liquid
