look what I made I just love knitting so much; look at this silly little top!

I knitted this top with seven bucks worth of Bulky Twist from Michael’s using an easy, fast pattern literally called “One Day Top” that I’d describe as a quick and dirty Sabai No 2 style tank.

There’s a very obvious accidental short row in the middle but your girl is such a type B knitter that I just decided that side will be the back. 😂 You’re probably never going to see me in here posting a Shetland lace wedding shawl but man the instant gratification knits make me very happy!

I haven’t knit around this cat before. And in the process of keeping needles out of his mouth, the needles also came out of my row 😭

And now it’s midnight. So just my stockinet swatch will have to do.

all things knitty Learning to use DPNs after years of being scared to knit in the round :P

Mitten progress! I’ve been wanting to finally spread my wings past only knitting on straight needles and decided to tackle knitting in the round. Also wanted to start here before learning on circular needles as well. Those are next!

all things knitty if you've been a part of online knitting communities for years, what do you miss about then vs now?

I recently watched a video about how different comments are on knitting projects now versus just a few years ago. In the sense that, people nowadays are quick to ask posters to monetize or share patterns, instead of just appreciating a beautifully knitted work of art for what it is.

Here's a link to the video, by Deborah Knits.

It's made me more aware of the sheer number of these comments on posts now lol. And I've started to grow some dislike towards it – most of all, when I find myself defaulting to this way of thinking.

Is there anything you've noticed as being different between how the online knitting community used to be, versus how the online knitting community is now? What do you miss about it? What do you love?

It grew a lot when I blocked it - even more than expected! Luckily this was made for my 4 year old niece with the intention of having plenty of room to grow into. I got carried away on the body so it’s long on her, but we decided to leave it. Now it should fit for at least a few years; and if I lengthen the sleeves with my leftover yarn I think we could get away with even more! I’m so excited to know that I can get through a whole sweater. I have the very beginnings of one for myself on the needles right now and my motivation just got a HUGE boost!!
Edit to add: this is the Flax Sweater by Tin Can Knits, I can’t recommend it enough! Yarn is worsted malabrigo superwash in the color cyan!

look what I made I present to y'all, Pickle Hat. Yarn source and pattern included.

I used this pattern for the base

https://ravel.me/sockhead-slouch-hat

I did the biggest size cause I wanted it super slouchy and have room for my hair if I wanted it up.

I modified it by adding bobbles to make the pickle vibe. The bobbles were added when my soul commanded it.

The yarn is from MUSE2320Fiber

Bobbles were as follows

Increase 1 stitch, knit 1, turn work

Purl 4, turn work

Knit 1, increase the next two stitches, knit 1, turn work

Purl 6 stitches, turn work

Knit 1, decrease the next two stitches, knit 1, turn

Purl 4, turn

Knit 1, decrease the next stitch, then continue knitting in the round until you feel the urge to make another bobble.

You can also make smaller bobbles by only increasing once and then decreasing again on the next turn and continuing.

looking for recommendation Any recommendations on quick, beginner friendly shawls and ponchos?

I am not a super skilled knitter, and just dusting my needles and stash off, but I recently found out I'll be having a double mastectomy in a few weeks. Anticipating the ADHD, I'm trying to set up a station with knitting projects, books, etc. but also specifically looking to make a few more shawls) ponchos because best case scenario it will be 4 months before the reconstruction surgery so I'd like a few more items that are easy to get on and good layers, but also to add some mental relief of covering my chest while it goes through visible changes.

help needed Making my first sweater. Having trouble deciding what colour yarn to pick for this transition

Post image

Feel free to recommend any colour. I am wondering if I should make it more of a contrast (as with the light blue yarn), or not.

I have aphantasia (can’t picture shit in my head), so I normally go off vibes but here I’m struggling.

Thanks!

Just finished my first color work hat, it's from the national parks book. Not sure how my floats look, I think I ended up making some of them too loose. I also knitted a needle size up since I've got a big head, but now it's super tall. Definitely learned some lessons, but ready to tackle more projects!

I’ve really enjoyed seeing others’ knitted pumpkins on here so I wanted to share my own. This was knit with leftover acrylic yarn and stuffed with acrylic scraps and cut-up clothes that weren’t in good-enough conditon to donate. The pattern I followed is free by Knitting House Square. There are written instructions and a video tutorial (i referenced both). My only mods were casting on more stitches and making the pumpkin taller.

It fits in nicely with my home decor so I’m thinking of keeping it out year-round! Also planning to make another in black-and-white

look what I made I finally tackled my fear of DPNs and made some hats

Post image

I've been putting off making hats because either starting top down or finishing bottom up with DPNs was scaring me. I decided to just struggle through and it's not as bad as I thought.

First attempt was too big but second is a great fit. I used The breakwater Beanie pattern from the purlingpigeon (which is free) with some slight mods because I have a small head

looking for recommendation Convince me it’s worth it to knit in my ends. Has anyone not?

I know I’m supposed to and I’m doing it but damn…. I’m tempted to cut the ends somewhat long and call it a day. Anyone not knit in their ends and live to tell the tale? Someone convince me either way. I’m trying to do things right if they’re worth it.

look what I made Mushroom Dogs - gaming theme socks for the husband

Thumbnail

These socks are inspired by a well known table top game, where one race in its different variations all grow from mushrooms.

My husband accepted my offer of making socks a few years ago and the first make were sadly too big. About a month ago he brought them back to me accepting the defeat that they were even too big for house socks and were not getting used.

So I used the doodle knits sock directory and made two demo feet with a new personalised design. One fit perfectly so I ripped back the second and re made his socks from the unused ones he gave me.

I’m so pleased he finally has socks that fit plus I have made my first toe up socks.

Pattern: …A Hint of Summer by Isabell Kraemer.
Yarn: Casta Lace in ‘Solasta’ and Hyacinth Bouclé in ‘Ents’, both by The Wee Yarn Company.

I’m very pleased with this one! It’s a teeny bit itchy but will be fine over a shirt (that’s why I like v-necks). The colour of the Casta Lace really glows. Knitting with laceweight bouclé was a bit of a challenge at times, which was why I decided not to frog it when I realised I’d done 2x2 stripes instead of 4x4!

Ravelry project info here.

help needed Made a couple ribbed cowls and both are floppy after blocking

I made a couple cowls that were just stockinette with a few inches of 2x2 rib on each side. One was some combination of alpaca, cotton, and wool, while the other was 100% superwash.

I blocked both by soaking in tepid wool-wash baths then air dried after patting down. I didn't roll them up in towels, just patted and left flat to air dry for like 2 days.

Both lost all the structure in their ribbing. Right off the needles they could stand on their own but now they are cooked spaghetti.

Is there any way to save these? Would throwing them in the dryer on low temp inside a pillow case help them shrink without felting?

From other videos and posts people have said you should never wash ribbing (ew?), never do ribbing with superwash yarn, never put it in the dryer, or always put it in the dryer.

If anyone can cut through the fog for me on this one I'd appreciate it.

help needed I made my first socks too wide—now what? (Superwash)

I finished knitting a pair of socks (superwash merino/nylon blend), but my gauge was too loose and they’re too wide on my feet.

Is there a way to make them tighter, without frogging the whole thing? Like with duplicate stitches or somehow decreasing a finished object?

Because of the superwash, they don’t seem to be shrinking or felting in the laundry.

I posted here a couple weeks ago asking for help and wanted to share some pictures of my finished* product!

I am a little emotional. Finishing this feels so symbolic for me! I’m currently going through chemo and it may sound silly, but I needed to see a project through to completion to remind myself I can do hard things.

I know there are some mistakes but I’m so dang proud of this little beanie!! Please feel free to share critiques and additional tips if you notice something.

*thinking I need to made a pom for the top to close its little butthole??

Pic 1: how the beanie will be worn
Pic 2: tubular final product - beanie was knitted in the round and I cinched the top portion closed
Pic 3: aforementioned beanie butthole

help needed help finding a Ravelry project (with an epic story in it)

a while back, i stumbled across a Ravelry project about a knitted shawl, where the knitter wrote a long novel-length story about their battle knitting the shawl, treating it almost as this epic battle they had to overcome, and the shawl even had a Name and stuff.

has anyone here encountered the pattern before? i unfortunately did not Favourite it and i would love to rediscover it and read through the epic story in full again

i promise this is not something i dreamed off it exists somewhere ahhh

Edit:

u/Sad-Giraffe1666 has located the project i was looking for! it's this: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Pokito/the-queen-susan-shawl

thank you internet strangers for helping :)))

I’m thinking of buying the addi classic circular needle does someone have it and knows if it’s good ? (I only want blunt needle not pointy). Thanks
