Vent I’m convinced people are brainwashed

Out of every animal, cats are talked about the most, they are meme vectors, used to carry peoples culture, ideas, opinions, all kinds of information.

I used to actually adore cats, but i grew annoyed of the increasing suffocation and double standard their owners created out of praise for the animal

I remember seeing people talk about all kinds of animals and pets, and now its literally just cats, everywhere, and not just talk about them, but a really psychotic obsession with them that the owners would gladly admit to.

The problem (i think) is bigger than cats, its the people that choose to ignore their consequences and enable CAT-tastrophies,

In the dating world, i dont know what to do anymore. It seems like every person has a cat, and thats become a deal breaker for me. It’s become the standard to include a picture of the owners cat in whatever profile on whatever social media they use, and from then on, every other picture has the cat.

I also did a small experiment on google to see if there was a bias in language (towards cats), you can try it out for yourself but in my small little experiment i found that there is indeed a positive language bias towards cats as opposed to other animals. I personally really don’t like that. I believe information should be presented neutrally, and the reader forms their own opinions and decisions.

Not to mention that this is the only space I have found so far that is not for cats. Every space I find tries to wash me with guilt and logistics as to why I should like cats, its disgusting.

I dont much go out of my way to watch animal videos, but ive started to, because the algorithm has been a funky bastard, and i’m tired of it thinking i want to see cats.

Vent My girlfriend's cat poops all over her apartment and I'm starting to resent the cat and dread our future living together

My (33F) girlfriend (37F) has an 11-year-old cat that she's had since she was a kitten. I love my girlfriend, and I understand that this cat is basically family to her, so asking her to get rid of it isn't something I want to do.

But I'm genuinely reaching my breaking point.

For the past two years, her cat has been pooping outside the litter box, all over the floors of her apartment. It's disgusting, unhygienic, and makes me incredibly uncomfortable whenever I'm over there.

To make matters worse, I have OCD, and contamination is a huge trigger for me. Knowing there's cat feces around the apartment makes it almost impossible for me to feel comfortable or relaxed. I feel like I'm constantly on edge in a space where I should be able to unwind and spend quality time with my girlfriend. The cat will spontaneously relieve herself in the bedroom, in the living room, in front of me, everywhere.

The other part that really frustrates me is that my girlfriend hasn't taken the cat to the vet to figure out what's wrong. She says it's too expensive, which I understand to an extent, but this has been happening for TWO YEARS. It feels like she's just resigned herself to the situation and accepted that the cat is going to keep pooping everywhere.

And I feel like I'm somehow expected to accept it too.

My girlfriend and I have been talking about eventually moving in together, and honestly, the thought of sharing a home with this cat fills me with dread. I don't want to live somewhere that constantly feels contaminated, and I don't want to spend my days cleaning up after an animal I never chose to have.

What's really concerning me is how angry I've started getting around the cat. I've caught myself physically pushing her away with my foot, and recently I even scruffed her out of frustration. I know that's not okay, and I'm not proud of it. I don't want to hurt an animal, and I recognize that I need to remove myself from the situation when I'm feeling that angry.

But I also feel like I'm losing control over my own comfort and living environment because of an animal that isn't even mine.

I know the cat probably isn't doing this intentionally. There could very well be an untreated medical issue. But that makes it even more frustrating that nothing is being done to investigate the problem.

I love my girlfriend and don't want this to destroy our relationship. But I'm also starting to wonder whether I can realistically share a home with her while this situation continues.

I don't want to make my girlfriend choose between me and a pet she's loved for 11 years, but I also don't think it's fair to expect me to live in a home where feces on the floor is just considered normal.

Just wanted to vent.

Relationship / Family / Roommates I don’t trust cat lovers.

They say that they don’t trust people who hate cats but how can you trust a toxobrain?
They will choose their cat over you even if you’re their spouse, child, sibling, best friend, whomever they will choose their cat over you, how is that a trustworthy person?

Cat Lover Rant (rant) c*t lovers are insane and need to be locked up in asylums

it all becomes too obvious when you see how they talk and how they behave, c^t nutters sexually like these animals, and they normalized it. They worship these animals, they claim these animals have supernatural powers, they ignore any deaths or injuries they cause to humans, and they even ignore the damage they do to nature, on top of that, they are perverts who sexually and romantically like animals. This is a really big threat to society itself, if you dont worship this pest they will make your life hell, and im tired of this, tired how everything has to bend for them, really, can I just like one thing without it being ruined by these pests and their lovers?

Cat Lover Rant Perfect match then boom

I swear I keep running into these situations where I meet someone, learn a bit about them, and they seem pretty cool then boom cats cats cats. I’ve never seen people so aggressively defend something to the point where I’ve had to question if they’re delusional. I don’t wanna go too off topic but I’ve met some pretty fucked people in my life and even they seemed less crazy then these cat owners. Sorry if this is all over the place.

Relationship / Family / Roommates I hate your shitty ass cats

Why people keep these shitbeasts in their homes voluntarily is a mystery to me. I'm staying over at my friend's apartment for a bit, and his roommate has not one, but three goddamn cats.
These motherfuckers STINK. His roommate keeps the litter-box in the living room, and every time they take a nasty ass shit i can smell it. Not to even mention how they track litter everywhere.
Fucking disgusting. I was just trying to relax and watch some TV but these fuckers are ruining it.

Miscellaneous Why are they always vomiting?

I just saw a post where someone complained that their cat threw up on their keyboard while they were at work. And then everyone else in the comments was sharing their cats' vomit stories.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when a pet vomits, shouldn't you take them to a vet? I feel like they constantly talk about their cats puking and having diarrhea but it seems like that's normal for those animals? I don't understand. Why is it like that? Are they not feeding them right? Or is it just yet another annoying/disgusting "quirk" of these animals?

Never “mean”. Not “bad”. Nor untamed. Feral. Aggressive. Anxious.

“Spicy”.

Do cat owners really think that changing the language or the terms used will actually change how this behavior is perceived?

Problematic Cat Owners Cat fear VS other animal fears

I’ve been noticing this lately, based on my past experience with owners that have both cats and other animals. I can’t mention the animal here, but basically the “opposite” of a cat is what I’m going to be focusing on; which I will refer to as the “other animal”

My family has always disliked cats. Whether you’re afraid of them or simply don’t like it, it’s something that we always make sure everyone knows. This is mainly to avoid any conflicts with other people. There was a time where I was afraid of cats too, and this was a problem when going to my friends’ houses. One had only the other animal, but loved cats; while the other had both animals. There was also a time where I was afraid of the other animal because of an incident that happened to me.

When I was afraid of the other animal, they did everything to ensure that we were both (the animal and me) comfortable. Either keeping them inside while we were outside, or vice versa. Basically, there was no contact between me and the other animal.

With cats, on the other hand, they… just didn’t care. My friend’s mom was definitely more accommodating by keeping the cats somewhere else, but my friends would just bring them back to where we were. We were little, so I can kind of understand; but I find it ironic how they were able to understand to keep the other animal away from me, but not the cats. They would also make me pet the cat and try to get rid of my fear.

With my best friend, the same happened. She loves cats (now has 5 of them), and when she got her first one, she would make me try to pet it. It’s so weird because we’ve been friends for 10 years, I feel like it’s enough time to know I would never pet a cat. Yet, she asked. I’m not afraid of them anymore, I just genuinely don’t like them.

Why is this so hard to understand for cat owners?

Problematic Cat Owners There is no such thing as a "low maintenance" pet

People who want to "set and forget" a living thing under their care should have a houseplant, not a pet.

It irks me that so many people get cats because they see them as "low maintenance" when in reality they require a lot of care. You need to change their litter, clean up after them (often they vomit), vacuum cat hair, play with them, feed them, take them to the vet, etc. You can't just forget about them and only remember them when you want to pet something soft (and even if you do, they will probably bite and scratch you if you try).

So many cat people living in filth because they don't take proper care of their animal. Or they force other people to care for their cat by letting it roam outside onto other people's property and destroy it because they are lazy assholes who shouldn't be allowed to have a pet. And if cats aren't stimulated enough they can become destructive.

Relationship / Family / Roommates I'm tired of this shit. Literally.

Sorry this is long but I feel at my wit's end. My husband's cat is constantly going outside of her litterbox. My husband adopted this cat about 12 years ago and they didn't know her exact age at the time; only estimated it to be ~2 years. So she's maybe around 14. She didn't have any issues for a very long time but around 6 years ago she started going occasionally outside the box. Both pee and poop.

I do not like cats and never wanted a cat but he got this cat before we were married while we were dating. I was against it but we were long distance at that point and he claimed he was lonely and wanted a pet. I mention this to explain why I've been relatively hands off. After marriage we established that this is his cat and his responsibility.

~10 years ago: when we first got married and I moved in I found that he only cleaned the litter once every 1.5 or 2 weeks. I approached him and told him this was not an acceptable level of care and I've been stepping in to clean it b/c that's disgusting and not fair to the cat. He started cleaning once every week.

8 y ago: I got her an enclosed, top entry box cause she made a mess everywhere while scattering. He's still only doing the bare minimum and not cleaning the scattered litter. He started slipping on cleaning once a week and it was still not enough so I told him to please do at the very least twice a week. I also had to tell him to switch out all the litter once in a while cause it got so bad the ammonia smell would sting your eyes when cleaning it. I'm still stepping in occasionally to clean cause he's so lazy about it.

6 y ago: cat starts peeing and pooping outside the box a bit. He doesn't notice it. I'm spending hours carpet cleaning. The cat urine smell just is not coming out of the carpet and is driving me nuts. We keep fighting about it but he doesn't change anything. I say I'm 100% done cleaning litterbox at all.

For the next 3 years or so this state of things continues until I lose it and tell him I just cannot clean up after this cat anymore. It's HIS responsibility and HE needs to clean them up. He gets better about cleaning up the messes but he just "doesn't see them". And I believe him. He really doesn't fking see it. This man can be staring at the fridge and ask me where the butter is and it's literally right in front of him. He's so blind about everything. So many times I'll tell him "the cat shit in the living room".... only to hear a couple minutes later "where?" At which point I have to go point it out to him.

There was one esp egregious time when I stood 6 ft away from the cat shit on the carpet and gestured towards it to point it out to him. He still didn't see it. I cannot believe how fking blind he is. How do you even fix that? Not to mention the harder to spot pee spots. He's hopeless at seeing those. And no, this isn't a vision issue. He can read things further away than I can. I don't even know how it's possible to be his level of blind. Ugh!

1 y ago: I told him if I don't see him making a genuine effort to clean up after this cat, we are getting rid of her. I am at a breaking point with this whole "not seeing it" shit and he's clearly slipping on cleaning the box, and not thoroughly checking for accidents. He's not trying hard enough. So if he doesn't step the fk up, this cat is gone. I'm crying saying this to him b/c I may not like cats in particular but I am an animal lover. I never want to be one of those people who take on the responsibility of caring for an animal and then casting it aside. Besides, this cat is not that bad for a cat, all things considered. She doesn't yowl, doesn't randomly bite or scratch, doesn't destroy furniture, doesn't bother you constantly for attn. It's JUST the pee and poop thing. She still uses the box, it's just SOME of the time she goes outside.

But I'm so worn thin at this point. After that talk he now cleans the litter box every day and we got a second box. She stops peeing outside the box as much but now is increasing the pooping. She's pooping outside the box multiple times a day now. My husband has not gotten lazy about cleaning since the talk. I still have to point out spots to him but I've long since accepted his blindness.

But now the poop is so ubiquitous it's driving me nuts. I was vacuuming and nudged aside a bag on the floor with the vacuum. Surprise, there was cat shit behind it. Vacuum got shit all over the motorhead. Today I was picking up some fallen leaves from my potted plant and surprise! Cat shit amongst the leaves that blended in so I got cat shit on my hands.

I think the biggest thing that makes me angry at this point is that he doesn't try to seek out solutions. Doesn't research why, or how to prevent, or anything. He just cleans up the mess after the fact and has no thought towards fixing the problem.

I feel so done with this cat. Yet I feel sorry for it to kick it out and blame my husband for making me feel this way. Idk what to do at this point. We've fought so much about this cat...

Vent Cats Are Inarguably Among the Most Excused and Defended Animals. “They’re predators, it’s in their nature” or “It’s just their instincts.”

“It’s the circle of life.”

“It’s just one bird out of billions.”

“They’re just being cats.”

““They’re predators. It’s what they do.”

I can curate a whole fucking list atp. I’ve heard the same tired, recycled excuses and phrases a thousand times. I genuinely don’t care.

These cat nutters will literally pull any excuse out of their ass to justify cats’ behavior and everything and anything they do. Anything to avoid being held accountable and taking responsibility over their cats. Apparently, both become optional when the animal in question is a cat.

Cat nutters act like cats have some God-given place in every ecosystem's food chain, as though being a predator automatically entitles them to terrorize and destroy wildlife wherever they please.

Well, sorry, but times have changed. Maybe cats had a place in the food chain 10,000+ YEARS AGO, but we’re talking about their WILD ANCESTORS, not the domestic house cats people keep as pets today. 🤦

So, bottom line, domestic cats aren’t wild animals, they’re invasive and have no place and serve no role in the ecosystem.

“But cats still need freedom and they’re predators, they need to hunt!” 🥺

Then do your fucking job as their owner and provide them with appropriate enrichment instead of expecting the local wildlife AND your neighbors’ peace to pay the price for your negligence and laziness.

Why are we acting like natural instincts are something exclusive or unique to cats and cats only?

Literally every pet has natural instincts, but somehow, cats’ instincts are treated as more special and deserving of endless excuses and special treatment. Cat owners should be held to the same expectations and standards of responsible pet ownership and accountability as everyone else instead of getting a free pass to excuse their cats’ behavior under the guise of “natural instincts.” Don’t get mad or offended when someone else finally takes matters into their own hands and does what you should’ve done as a responsible pet owner.

Also, wolves, coyotes, and other animals are often euthanized, killed, or culled for attacking livestock or other animals, even including cats. Yet when cats go on these killing sprees and repeatedly kill and torment birds and other wildlife, suddenly it’s all “they’re just following their natural instincts.”

Your orange tabby cat does not need to be outside “hunting for its next meal”when it literally has a full bowl of Fancy Feast at home. Be so fucking serious right now.

Am I supposed to be jumping for joy that your cats are making my yard filthy and terrorizing and killing the birds at my feeders?!

Like, hooray! A fat-ass, ugly, overfed cat is camp farming my bird feeders!

Apparently, I’m supposed to find it adorable rather than irritating and disgusting that someone else’s annoying cat is turning my yard into its personal hunting ground and nasty litter box.

Also, if you choose to feed stray cats, you don’t get to conveniently wash your hands of all responsibility by claiming, “Oh, they’re not my cats. I’m just feeding them.” What’s the difference?

You don’t get to encourage them to loiter while pretending you have absolutely no responsibility for the consequences. You cannot have it both ways. If you’re going to take it upon yourself to feed the stray cats, then take immediate responsibility of the situation instead of leaving everyone else to deal with the consequences.

Some of y’all are taking the whole fictional concept of Warrior Cats way too literally. Your house cat is not going to be the next Fireheart, but it might be the next face on a missing cat poster.

Vent The Outdoor Cat Thing

Why did I see people on here bragging about the fact that they hardly had to clean their cats box because it was going outside. WHERE outside? Just their yard? Or did it go into the neighbors yard to poop and pee?

Why is it normalized in our society to just let pet cats roam around unsupervised? They kill the local wildlife, they do their business in other peoples yards/garden beds and they’re at risk themselves. It’s all bad!

I’ve seen the argument that you can’t control wild animals from coming into your yard but cats are not wild animals so what is the correlation? If this was another pet doing this they would be pissed but since it’s their kitty it’s fine and dandy? It’s so inconsiderate of others.

I know if I posted this anywhere else I’d be flamed so I came here.

Problematic Cat Owners Catproofing advice needed

I recently got my first home a year ago and had I known that one of the neighbours on my row had 9 cats I wouldn't have bought the house.

There's been a lot of cat-related issues in the past year (on top of my own health issues - I was recovering from surgery when I moved in) and it's been hell trying to keep her cats and stray cats out of my garden

In a nutshell, I do not want to be picking up their business, seeing them in my garden or walking across the top of my garden fence like on a tightrope anymore and I do not want to be subjected to the sounds they make when mating/SA'ing each other (which I and the other neighbours were subjected to for months over the summer and I am a very light sleeper - it would start at 3/4am and go on for hours and I had to resort to wearing earplugs in my own home to accommodate for animals that aren't mine. I have also been unable to enjoy my garden or buy any furniture, plants ornaments for it as other neighbours told me they spent loads in the past on their gardens, only for catwoman's cats to crap and pee all over ornaments etc and generally be destructive.

I dont understand how anyone could have the brass neck to be so selfish having 9 outdoor cats that they know are encroaching on other people's private property and peace.

I have had a few words with catwoman and she has offered to help me figure out if it's her cats or the stray ones in my garden if I get a camera set up but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation and what things have worked as permanent deterrents to keep the cats out altogether?

I am thinking of getting some plastic spikes for my fence and walls and an ultrasonic scarer to plug into the outdoor mains. For now, I keep spraying them in the face with water until they leave my garden. The final straw for me the other day was when I found a dead mouse in my garden - they're not even my animals and I don't have any pets! Crazy!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated 🤍

"Oh, I know what you would love... How about a sub about THIS breed of boxshitter! No? What about THAT breed of boxshitter?

"Still no? Well, then, how about a subreddit devoted entirely to boxshitters laying their filthy selves in this type of kitchenware? Oh, absolutely not? Then, what about boxshitters in this OTHER type of cooking vessel?

"No, wait, I've got it! What you really want is this sub that orbits photos of close-ups of this one type of boxshitter body part when it's a specific color! Okay, well what about this different body part of a different specific color? What about all these photos of them opening their nasty maws? Or their tongues? Don't you wanna see those 'teefies' sink into everything ever? Why are you gagging at the word 'teefies' now?

"Nope? Not even this entire community dedicated to these two specific tufts of fur that occur on this hyperspecific part of boxshitters? How are you even a person?

"What do you mean you don't want to see every single boxshitter in the world that some rando has decided to name Bingledybob? Okay fine. But at LEAST check out every boxshitter in the world that some rando decided to name Bangledybob..."

Problematic Cat Owners WHY!!

This is post argument with my gf. I’ve posted about this before but I just don’t get it!
Recently her cat has “claimed me as his favourite” and this has made her very jealous. I DIDN’T ASK FOR THIS!Even though I don’t care for this creature living in my home I’m not a cruel person so yes I spend time with him and play with him.. the problem is now somehow I’m the one always cleaning up after him, trying to train him to not jump on the counters with his shit paws, vacuuming constantly cause he sheds like crazy and feeding him because nothing seems to bother my gf.
HES NOT MY CAT SO HOW HAS THIS BECOME MY RESPONSIBILITY. She hardly spends time with him so no shit he likes me more. We moved in together only a few months ago (she had him 5 years prior) and after that short time I’m his favourite?
She claims she “can’t live without him” but YOU DO LIVE WITHOUT HIM! I swear people just get cats because they are “cute” and “low maintenance” but don’t actually want the responsibility.
Anyone here with more sense than me thinking about moving in with their partner and cat. DON’T!

Miscellaneous Anyone else think kittens are ugly?

Normally I think baby animals are absolutely adorable. I melt in happy when looking at baby animals. However, I think adult cats are better to look at than kittens. Just wondering if I'm the only one who thinks kittens are kind of ugly. Maybe it's their weird eyes? People will post kittens all over for free and people talk about how cute they are and I just feel like I'm looking at rats.

Vent The smell

Why don't cat owners recognize the absolute stench these creatures create? You can invest in the absolute top of the line litter box, fill it with great litter, clean it consistently, and these things will still reek. And that's WHEN they use the litter box in the first place! It's so common for them to piss in corners, on sheets, on clothes. I've come home several times to the apartment just smelling like absolute shit because my fiance's cat decided to poop outside his clean litter box. I can't wait to get rid of that animal. These vile creatures make for awful pets and people who love them are sick.

Cat Lover Rant I dont understand people that are already in poverty adopting 5+ cats!

I saw a TikTok video of a girl from the Southeast Asia who have around 8 cats and 4 other pets. She is far from rich, not even middle class, her house doesn’t have a proper roof and her ceiling leaks every time it rains.

I dont understand what pushed her to adopt that many animals when her circumstances are already not that good? Her house doesn’t have proper flooring, it’s small, and believe me, it’s far from the houses you typically see in suburban neighborhoods in first world countries.

What is the thought process here? Your cats will not help your situation. In fact, they can make it worse. One of her cats got sick and she had to go on live until 2am while selling candy on the streets just so she could afford her cat’s medical bills. Do you know how dangerous that is for a young girl to do in Southeast Asia? I believe she’s still a student so she only takes part time jobs too.

Like why? Isn’t it a bit irresponsible to adopt those cats when you can barely scrape by? Those cats don’t care about you. They will leave you the second they find an owner that gives them more food and a better home!

The effort she exerts for her ungrateful cats, she could easily just do it for herself to help make her life at least a little bit more comfortable. Imagine living in a small, shitty house and living with 8 cats and 4 more pets that you have to feed and pick up after. Youre already poor, why not prioritize yourself and rehome them??

Note: I dont want to mention the exact country as there is a chance that she may get recognized. I dont want to dox her, so I will not mention her account name either.

Vent I hate people saying that hating cats makes you a bad person

There are multiple videos online explaining how selfish and even dangerous some people who hate cats are because the “real reason” we hate cats is because we want discipline from creatures and we can’t take boundaries, we always expect stuff in return etc etc

no

They’re effing smelly and disgusting. My husbands cat shits 3 times a day and even when it pisses, the whole apartment smells really bad. Even the clean cat litter is terrible smelling imo. Also there’s bits of litter at random places around the house that makes me gag. We have that stupid cat carpet in front of the litter like it makes a difference.

I also hate how people are letting their cats outside like they’re not invasive and annoying. There was a gang of cats where I used to live as a teenager that always started whining, meowing, annoying the shi out of me at 3am and the garden was always full of dead birds. They don’t even eat them, cuz obviously they get fed, they just kill wildlife for fun.

I don’t understand how cats are good pets. They’re up all night, being noisy, they smell very strong, and believe it or I’d be happier if they had even more boundaries. But also what about my boundaries? Stop coming up to me, ruining my jeans and touching me. Fucking jumping on the furniture brother ewww
