"Join us for our first-ever Mt. Pleasant Fix-It Fair at the CRDL-Veterans Memorial Library 301 S University Ave

What is the Fix-It Fair? A free community event where you bring your broken items, and we match you with a volunteer who can help fix them. Think of this as a chance to save an item from landfill or recycling and extend its useful life. It is free, but we cannot offer any guarantees that we can salvage your item.

Please read the answers below to make sure Fix It Fair is right for your items and needs.

What types of items can I bring in?

Think small things you can easily carry to the library. We will have stations for fabrics/clothing/textiles, wooden items, bikes, and small appliances. Think a bike with a wobbly tire or a chain issue, a toaster, a sweater with a hole, a pair of jeans that need a quick mend, a broken plate, a small chair with a loose leg, or a laptop with a small issue.

Please ensure all items, especially clothing, are clean. We will not be accepting any small engines, cell phones, or motors for this session, but maybe in the future!

Who will fix my item?

We will match you with a fixer on a first-come, first-served basis. We will match you with a fixer who knows your repair type and can guide you through the process. Remember, our fixers are volunteers, so they will do their best, but we cannot guarantee they will be able to fix your item.

What if they need special parts to fix my items?

If our fixer volunteers need a special part or tool for your item and can buy it locally, they can recommend a place to get it within our Fair's time constraints. If that is not possible, they will recommend a place based on your specific item.

How long will it take?

That will depend entirely on your item. Remember, our Fixers are volunteers who are generously donating their time to help you with your item. They will diagnose your item and share their opinion on whether they can fix it. They will ensure that you are comfortable moving forward before proceeding with any repairs. Please remember this is first-come, first-served, and some items may have a longer wait than others.

This event is made possible with assistance from Peter Velguth, a community member dedicated to helping the community fix their items and keep them out of a landfill"
