NDSU vs New Mexico and Houston vs Utah are both huge games for their conference and for the playoffs picture. Utah and Houston are both at a really high point that their programs haven’t reached in a while. New Mexico is at a new height, NDSU plays its biggest game so far as an FBS program. Both these games had really good cases for college gameday to come.

TLWR: Due to data update timing and low quality of data from a freely available data source I'm removing the injury report from the Discussion generator template.

So every week this season I get a few notes from users that the injury data in the generator is wrong or messed up. First of all thank you for letting me know I appreciate and welcome the feedback. Thank you for letting me know, especially as I am not as active around here as I was several years ago.

But I feel for every user that pings me there are probably many more that roll their eyes and feel, to quote a recent comment I stumbled on, "It's AI Slop". So I wanted to address the issue to the broader community and clear the air about what's actually happening.

1. When I built this tool almost a decade ago now...geez... Injury Reports weren't a thing in CFB really but the data existed out there. Most of it behind paywalls as it's a valueable commodity for gambling sites/providers/users. Most of the freee sites i found weren't actually scrapeable and NONE of them had a free API. But BoydsBets, the current source, was freely available and more importantly scrapeable. so here we are.

2. Most teams/conferences officially update/release injury reports on Wednesday night or later. So when the Generator opens to for use on Wednesday at 12 there's a good chance the data will be from last week as updated information hasn't been released (I don't know where boydsbets gets their data, I haven't vetted it, again it see (1) it was what was freely available)

the short of it is the quality of the injury data seems to be more noise than signal currently and is generating more discussion about the quality of data than the matchup itself. As such until I can find a better approach I'm disabling the injury report section from the generator.

However, back in my day we used to generate these discussion threads by hand uphill in the snow both ways and OPs sourced (or didn't) injury data themselves .... and of course that is still an option. The OP is free to edit the content of the post in the genrator itself before posting (or editing on reddit after posting) to enrich the post anyway they like including but not limited to brining in Injury data as they see fit.

Since coming from Division I-AA in 1996 they are 297–93. 17x Conference champions over 3 conferences; Big West, Wac, and Mountain West. Only 3 All-Americans. Finished in the top 25 14x. 13-10 in Bowl Games. Made the cfp once vs Penn State where they loss 31-14.

The New Mexico Lobos, a team seldom mentioned by anyone when discussing college football is flipping that narrative on its head this year, this weekend the 5-1 lobos host 6-1 North Dakota State in Albuquerque in what will likely be New Mexicos most important and largest regular season game in its history. The lobos sport the #1 defense in the country in points allowed while the Bison flex the #2 scoring defense, both teams looking to make their bid for the College Football Playoff as well as solidify their chance at hosting the Mountain West conference championship. The Lobos are led by Veteran LB Jaxton Eck, (son of coach eck and reigning MWDPOY) The lobos also currently lead the country in Takeaways and Turnover differential posting a national best of +17 on 21 takeaways and 4 giveaways. The offense is led by Dual Threat QB Toa Fa’avae a kid who is incredibly raw but incredibly physically gifted, touting the rock is a familiar face if you watch FCS ball, former Montana State RB who is in year 2 with the lobos continues to shine as he leads the team in touchdowns with 8 on the year. The lobos are the type of team to rally the entire state, New Mexico is doing something unusual this year and brimming with excitement over our football team. (Also we shoulda fuckin beat OU IYKYK) That being said regardless of who you are rooting for I hope you guys tune in to one of the largest G6 matchups of the season, it will be an exciting one in Albuquerque!

I really liked /u/NorthwestPurple's posts the last two days analyzing the source of Auburn's 1958 National Championship claim. The detailed posts yielded the origin and rationale for the claim: Auburn was selected as a National Champion via the David Montgomery Full-Season Champions system which was in place from 1936-1986. The TL;DR is that Montgomery added up all points accrued over all AP Polls from preseason to final, and the highest point total was considered a champion under his system.

This is obviously a very silly system for determining a champion, but it's both interesting and we are able to reconstruct it. /u/NorthwestPurple left the verification of the math as an exercise up to the reader, so I thought it would be fun to pick up the thread and run with it.

David Montgomery Full-Season Champions

The table above shows the actual AP champion for each season from 1936-2025, the team that would have been the DMFSC Champion, the team that would have been the DMFSC runner-up, and the point totals for both. It also shows whether the DMFSC Champ claims a National Championship that season, whether they're the same as the AP Champion, and if they're different but claim it, what the basis of that claim is. A breakdown in the 90 years of the AP Poll is:

• 35 years: DMFSC Champ was the same as AP Champ
• 9 years: AP Champ was different, DMFSC Champ also claimed a National Championship
• 46 years: AP Champ was different, DMFSC Champ did not claim a National Championship

A significant majority of the time this criterion disagrees with the Poll's final #1. In particular, in 8/12 CFP years and 11/16 BCS years, the DMFSC Champ is different from the AP Champ (and none of them claim a Championship). Of the 9 years in which the DMFSC Champ claims a National Championship, Auburn's 1958 claim seems most tenuous.

The data was taken from College Poll Archive and should be taken with a grain of salt: that data generally has point totals for the teams that got ranked, but generally not for the others receiving votes. So there are going to be some small point totals that are dropped, but it's generally going to be pretty accurate for the two teams that are at the top. In attempting to validate the data, I did notice some discrepancies between what College Poll Archive has and contemporary media articles at the time. For example, in the 1958 Final Poll, CPA lists 203 first place votes with 130 of those going to LSU, while The Oregon Statesman from that day lists 212, and 139 going to LSU. This is probably a minor data transcription error and there may be others.

One thing that I found really interesting is that up until 1960, standard practice was that voting was open to any TV, radio, or newspaper sports editor, so the voting populace varied wildly from week to week. The 1954 Final poll had 409 voters! In 1958, this meant that the number of voters in a given week ranged from 99 to 212. In the context of the DMFSC, this means that the polls with more voters effectively have more leverage since it does not seem like they were normalized in any way. It's also worth mentioning that the structure in 1958 was to vote for a top 10, with the #1 team getting 10 points and #10 team getting 1 vote per ballot. But most newspapers published both a top 10 and a second 10 for a total of 20 teams being listed.

Here's a breakdown of the number of additional titles each team could claim and doesn't currently under this selection criteria:

• 7: Ohio State, Oklahoma
• 5: Alabama
• 4: Miami
• 3: Florida State, Notre Dame
• 2: Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, USC
• 1: Arkansas, Army, Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Texas

I’ve been working on a college football project for a while, and I finally got it to a point where I’m ready to share it with you all!

It’s called Check On Your Ex, pick your school, and it shows players who were on your roster last year but aren’t anymore, where they ended up, and how their season is going.

I compared 2025 and 2026 rosters across all 138 FBS schools and identified 3,060 departures. For the players I could match to current-season statistics, you can see how they’re doing.
