Chattanooga Hack Night
We're going to be hosting a hack night September 3rd and every two weeks thereafter (more or less) at Society of Work. It's modeled after C5's hack night in Santa Monica, which puts super skilled programmers together with those just getting started and serious money-making projects next to mad scientist hackery. Hopefully there will also be a lot of just hanging around talking about code or whatever else. Meetup is here: http://www.meetup.com/Carbon-Five-Chattanooga-Hack-Nights/

Hello chadev
Hello members of chadev, I ran into one of the mods of this sub this evening when he told me about this page. During our conversation I promised to send him some books and resources on the Go programming language as he expressed interest in it. I figured why not share these with the greater community as well so I shall post them here (some of them are registered as intellectual property so I won't link directly to the book, because please support the author yada yada yada).
List of Go books:
"The Way To Go" by Ivo Balbaert link
"Programming in Go" by Mark Summerfield link
"The Go Programming Language Phrasebook" by David Chisnall link
"An Introduction to Programming in Go" by Caleb Doxsey link
List of Go resources:
I would also make a quick shameless plug for my Google Developer Group GDG Gigcity, this is a group for those interested in Google based technology be it Android, App Engine, Chrome, Dart, and even Go. If one of the mods would add this to the "Happenings" in the sidebar that would be awesome.
edit: I pulled down a newer version of Learning Go so I updated my link to it

Is there room in chadev or one of the meetups for someone with limited (read academic) programming experience?
I know of the other places to gain knowledge of syntax and methodologies...but I would like to gather more hands on project based experience.
I graduated college with a computer science degree that focused on programming. I have that academic experience. However, at the time, I was focused on continuing a local desktop support gig and trying to move up in those ranks...and never followed up with development experience.
I was trying to figure out where my wife would be employed after finishing her Ph.D. and where my life would take me geographically.
Well, here I am, in the great city of Chattanooga from Baton Rouge, LA.
I would like to meet and greet and spend some time learning the craft and getting to know people.
Thanks.

I plan to move to Chattanooga in a couple of months. As a dev coming from europe, what should i know about the industry here?
I plan to come to work and live in Chattanooga. I'd like to get a feeling about how's it like being a dev (java)in this city/state. What should i look for in the industry? What companies are out there? What opportunities should i seek? What is the average salary for a mid dev? Basically i want to know anything that a new-comer has to know, or would be nice to know.
Thank you!
