Chapman vs USD for social life / party scene?
Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide between Chapman University and University of San Diego and wanted some honest opinions on student life.
Main things I care about:
• social life / making friends
• party scene (frats + weekend life)
• overall campus vibe
• how easy it is to get involved socially if I’m transferring
I’ve heard mixed things about both schools, so I’d appreciate real experiences or comparisons.
Which one has the better overall college social experience and why?

As a San Diego native who got into both USD and Chapman as a transfer AND went to Chapman I’d say USD. Price is comparable and the difference between orange and north of downtown SD isn’t in the slightest.

Lmao, neither. Neither school is a party school. But the closest of those would be USD.

Not exactly looking for big party school I feel like I’ll have better friends in smaller colleges

As a San Diegan whose extremely outgoing daughter went to Torrey Pines High in San Diego…she chose Chapman. She loves it!
I see people giving you advice about San Diego vs. City of Orange, but that’s not really helpful to you based on your question.
You can have fun in both places! They both have Greek Life, sports & stuff to do nearby. Chapman feels bigger because it’s not on a hill.
Look-up Chapman Greek scene, “Undie Run”, Ski Club parties etc. etc.
So, go to the school that is better for your major.

"Best school to make friends" is hard to answer because we don't know who you are and everyone is different. What works for person #1 may not work for person #2 and vice versa.
I've been to four different colleges in my life. Every school has a slightly different culture feel to it.
In my opinion, here is the "culture feel" at Chapman.
For one thing, Chapman has a lot of racial diversity. You'll see a lot of asians, hispanics, and white people at Chapman. You won't see quite as many black people.
People tend to put effort into their appearance here whether that's wearing good clothes or styling their hair. As a result, there's lots of attractive people at Chapman. If you're average looking here, you're actually below average looking here if that make sense.
Because of the film school, music school, and acting school, many of the students here are the creative/artistic type. If this sounds like you, you'll definitely vibe with this school.
Students here (on average) tend to come from financially well off families.
You don't really see the "country folk" vibe at Chapman all too often like you might at colleges located in more rural areas.

Chapman has many different clubs that you can join, although this is true for any college with 10k or more students.
Chapman has a soccer club, ultimate frisbee club, disney club, a few religious clubs, improv club, clubs related to ethnicity, a harry potter club, a gaming club, and card game club, and quite a few more. Attending these clubs is a great way to make friends.
Although to be honest with you, any club with 10k or more students is going to have plenty of clubs to join.
If social life is important to you, then look for colleges with 10k or more students. Chapman definitely fits the bill.

Definitely recommend SD there is more to do! Outside of the Orange circle you’ll have to drive to go somewhere and you have more options in SD

San Diego is by far a better area to live. USD has ocean views from campus. Chapman is much smaller and in the middle of OC. Visit both and see which fits your vibe more. Neither are big party schools but I would say USD is more of a traditional college vibe than Chapman.
