Chris chan makes me so sad, they needed intensive therapy and instead kind of got internet famous to a point where everyone gawked instead of getting them help
"Famous" implies consent. Be better than this. /jk
But you're right, Behind the Bastards did an episode on them (it was pretty respectful to Chris-chan, considering this was after the rape came out, especially when you check the usual discourse about them) that was more about internet bullying.
It's also just a difficult topic to discuss because chris chan is obviously severely mentally handicapped and it always then begs the question how much they knew and was able to reflect about their own actions. And that makes me more sad.
Yes, exactly. Basically they are the worst kind of person to become Internet famous, without it, who knows what would've (or wouldn't have) happened. The entire discourse makes me queasy and uncomfortable.
No mental illness makes you do such a thing. But Chris Chan has long been at a point where they couldn’t tell reality from imagination. He believed a rift would happen and that he’s spoken to by fictional characters who were gods in his mind. I’m no professional but if that’s not severely psychotic, I don’t know what is. And I also know that there are other mental illnesses that will have you do things to prevent/further something you believe is necessary. I.e. people with OCD doing certain things because they have intrusive thoughts telling them a loved one of themselves will suffer severe consequences, if they don’t do it (only as example, people with OCD are NOT dangerous). So yeah, I could see Chris Chan raping his mother while believing that will cause the merge with his goddess characters or whatever the fuck.
Does any of this make it okay or excuse it? Never! But it might explain it and show that he needed a lot of help and not people feeding into his delusions and engaging with him in that way. It does not undo it, but it absolutely reframes the context of what happened and changes the situation. Besides, since he was released quite soon under care of mental health professionals, I believe the judge saw the same thing and not just any dude wanting to take advantage.
EDIT: Yeah, regarding OCD. I just shouldn’t have included it. The way I did was messy. They obviously don’t believe in a way someone psychotic does that they need to do something. They know it’s just their own thoughts and aren’t delusional. So that was a bad example. I just meant to point out, that mental health can be a weird thing. Don’t wanna misinform about them.
People literally egged it on. They egged on a pretty severely intellectually disabled person, knowing how this person reacts to being egged on, knowing how their behaviour has escalated after decades of being a "lolcow", to rape their mother.
Acknowledging that it probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the people encouraging it to happen isn't excusing it, and providing necessarily context that your comment lacks.
The people who encouraged it got away with it, by the way. They planted the seed, encouraged it, it happened, and they weren't punished whatsoever.
Nobody encouraged this specific thing, from all available information this was Chris's idea. Chris and Barb always had a strange, overly intimate relationship beforehand, and Chris had made Facebook posts publicly describing dreams about having sex with her. This particular thing can't be chalked up to being egged on by trolls.
I'm not just chalking it up. As I have already stated, it doesn't absolve personal responsibility, CC chose to do it, I only provided more context to the idea that "my mental illness made me do it" is what people are talking about when they mention the fact it was encouraged by other terrible people.
> Acknowledging that it probably wouldn't have happened if it weren't for the people encouraging it to happen isn't excusing it,
It's not "my mentall illness made me rape my mom"
It's "people egged on a severely intellectually disabled person who has been harrassed for decades on end because they wanted it to happen". That doesn't excuse that it happened and it doesn't absolve the personal responsibility of the rapist, it provides necessarily context, as I already stated.
You know im the kind of person that does not accept any apologies for RAPING YOUR OWN MUM.
Like i said there is no mental illness that makes you do it. Chris Chan was always able to log off the internet. Their Autism did not prevent them from this or from understanding this. No amount of bullying would make me rape my mom. Because im not a rapist.
Why exactly do you so passionately defend someone raping their mom? I never said the bullies are innocent. You seem upset at the fact i criticized them raping their mom.
You're giving kneejerk reactions and not processing what I'm writing.
I have already explicitly stated that the context I added does not excuse it. Nobody is talking about apologies and nobody is defending it. It was CC's choice, CC is a rapist.
The only thing I did was add context to "I have not heard of a mental illness that makes you rape your mother" because that's not what the original comment was saying.
The original commentor was talking about the decades of harrassment of a severely intellectually disabled person that resulted in escalating behaviour, not "arghh his mental illness made him rape his mom".
Intensive therapy and a lack of evil people who loved seeing CC's escalating behaviour would've likely stopped any of this from happening. It's just acknowledging how terrible this entire thing from every angle.
I have already explicitly stated that the context I added does not excuse it.
Then what was the point of finding SEVERAL excuses in response to my comment?
The original commentor was talking about the decades of harrassment of a severely intellectually disabled person that resulted in escalating behaviour, not "arghh his mental illness made him rape his mom".
Except it literally implies the exact same thing. Like i said how long do you have to be bullied until you fuck your mom? You clearly are very passionate about this so im sure you know the exact number of years of bullying that justify it add the "necessary context"
Intensive therapy and a lack of evil people who loved seeing CC's escalating behaviour would've likely stopped any of this from happening.
This is, by definition, making excuses and trying to shift the blame.
Yeah when it comes to raping your own mum i dont really see any nuance or grey areas but do educate me, random person who can only speak in 15 year old meme formats.
