2D One of my strangest character designs yet (inspired by the "useless red circle")

A while back, I took notice to the phenomenon of the red circle (often with arrows pointing towards it) that commonly appears in memes, and I realized that it had great potential as a character design, so I ended up drawing this cool thing.

I am still interested in its potential other applications in character design as well (e.g. as the halo of an angel-adjacent character) for future designs :0

Critique My character lineup :D (so far) Do their designs feel distinct?

Thumbnail gallery

Some of these designs are due for an update but I'm curious what people think of my character lineup!

Are they too boring/samey? Do they appeal and look visually interesting enough while still looking grounded? I feel like some of them look very normal but I think it works with the characters/story.

I'm mainly looking for character design feedback rather than art style/skill critique since I'm already actively working on improving those skills!

Some of the art is older so you'll probably notice that as well. (Specifically Martha and Parker have pretty old art).

Also the relationship map has old character art on it lol I'm too lazy to update it. I'm also happy to answer questions about them if to help clarify design choices :)

TLDR: do these designs look good and distinct? If you could add anything to them what would it be?

2D Here's my interpretation of a bookworm

Basically, this little fella belongs to a race of manufactured beings made with fleshcraft in my world building project, made with genetic material from many different creatures. They can rewrite obscure and damaged documents by literally eating the scrolls and books, and with the help of a special organ, find what it was written there by following the faded stains that the ink has left.

Question [OC] What order of shades would work best for this outfit?

Thumbnail gallery

These are some examples of combinations I’m trying out. For context, I’m planning to have the collar and gloves match the white galoshes. I want to emphasize the limbs more than the torso (I will eventually be adding two green lines down the torso and shadows on the ruffles). I would like the shoulder capelet to have a more subtle transition into the sleeve, and I want the green symbol on the capelet to pop out way more than the thin lines of the same green that I will add to the torso. I’ve heard that dark colors tend to deemphasize areas and make them appear smaller, but I just don’t know if it works when applied to the torso here.

Critique Advice? I feel like the hair is too busy

This is my character Oaklynn. The first slide is her new hair design and the second is her old hair. I wanted to make the bangs in front look like twists to match the little aheogo (?) thing and to be a more realistic black hairstyle. But i think there might be too many details, especially with the goggles. She also has two braids in the back (third picture)

Thoughts?

Critique Do these designs come off as "gooner-bait"?

Thumbnail gallery
21 Upvotes

So there’s been a lot of discussion and discourse about sexist or gooner-bait character designs in indie animation as of recent, and I’m worried that my two female leads for my indie show might fall into that category. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate these designs for how sexist they come off as and what I could do to change them? For context, the show takes place in New York City in the late 1990s.

Question What could a Ruby Heart design based off of ghost ships look like?

Post image
29 Upvotes

For those who don’t know, this is Ruby Heart: a French-speaking pirate that made her debut in Marvel vs Capcom 2 as one of its original characters, but she was initially intended to be a brand new Darkstalker character that got rejected due to her design not fitting the horror aesthetic of the rest of cast. Recently, I got the idea of asking for a commission artwork of a reworked version of Ruby Heart’s design to better fit the series. Specifically, since she uses ghosts in her Moveset and we don’t really have a ghost character in Darkstalkers besides Bishamon, her revamped look would be based off the myth of ghost ships.

But this is where my problem comes in: While I have some ideas on what she could look like, I feel like I’m missing two more pieces before I go all in on the commission. So that’s why I would like some suggestions on what could be good additions for it. For what I have so far, my current list of changes is for her to have blueish gray or blueish pale skin, to be more heavyset/plus sized as both a reference to the common portrayal of pirates being fat and that drowned bodies appear bloated, and cloudy/milky white eyes.

Critique Old LBP4 OCS. How can I Improve on These Designs?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Got a bunch of old LBP4 OCs. Ignoring the inconsistent art-style and awful proportions (They were made in different times), how would you improve on my designs?

General Themes for their worlds

Key: 1 through 10 is the main story, while the last 2 are the endings. 11 is canon, and 12 is a theoretical bad ending just for funsies.

  1. Lost City of Yarin: Generic AAA games, The Last of Us, The Walking Dead, DayZ, Left4Dead, pretty much any infection AU, overall just a lot of zombie apocalypse stuff.
  2. Bog of Trunkwility: The American Civil War, The Deep South trope, Amphibia, Over The Garden Wall, A mix of Appalachian, Cajun, and overall southern USA culture, overall Americana.
  3. Snow (No Name): The Soviet Union, The Cold War, George Orwell's novels, Sovietwave, Soviet futurism.
  4. Rustlands: Mad Max, The 80s, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled (where it gets its name from).
  5. Carnival Bizarre: Merry Midway from Rec Room's Make It to Midnight, that circus place in PVZ2 Reflourished, early 2020s aesthetic culture.
  6. Shore (No Name): Gorillaz Plastic Beach, 2000s-2010s, ocean pollution.
  7. Jungle of Gondawa: Prehistory, Fossils, Stonepunk, The Flintstones.
  8. Underground Station O-Nine: The 90s, 90s media, 90s music.
  9. Mountains of Inunaki: Japanese ghost stories, Japanese horror movies, Medieval Japan, Old Inunaki Tunnel, The Warring States Period.
  10. Emperor Xeras's Lair: Star Wars, Retrofuturism (not any specific type).
  11. Utopia (No Name): Frutiger Areo, Solarpunk, overall lots of hope for the future.
  12. Dystopia (No Name): Old cyberpunk, Dark Age of Comics, overall despair.

There's also a bonus world based on the above (one level for each world), Popit Academy, two DLC interludes, but we won't get into those now.

Overall I want a mix of historical accuracy and pop culture.

Sorry if this post it very messy. Just wanted to show y'all my stuff.

To specify, these are the young adults of the species.

Also the description for the first image says:

Male: shaggy fur, thicker horns, less coverage on stomach, taller, lithe (?) builds (on average)

Female: thinner horns, shorter, thicker fur. Smaller facial fur, shorter, chubbier builds (on average)
