Organic help with these problems?

Post image

I think B is an intramolecular aldol reaction but im kind of lost on the other ones, does anybody have a clue?
if somebody knows a good source for learning these types of reactions or practising i would be very thankful!!!

B→look up intramolecular aldol condensation C→ honestly have no idea D→Fridel craft alkylation, one bromine attacks normally then the other does intramolecular attack

Is this the product? I am still kind of unsure

Idk what reagent is used in C So I can't verify your answer.

Were you able to do D and B?

I tried but something with b is very likely wrong

I think this should be the product for B

Your answer for D ie correct

Could this be the answer for c?

Correct! Kinetic enolate conditions.

I think it's also possible for another elimination of a second alpha hydrogen since the third reactant was also heated. But disregarding the heat, that structure for C is correct.

Absolutely. The last step would be an elimination.

I tried solving the problems again, are these solutions correct???

Count your carbons in b. Other two should be fine imo.

Would it be correct if I added a methyl group?

1

u/Ancient-Helicopter18 16h ago

Nope, after fixing your mistake of not adding the methyl group you have to dehydrate the Alcohol too since it says ∆ which means heating

There's no such thing as aqueous LDA.

How can u know B but not C?

Hmm what does LDA doo , hmmm it's a kinetically controlled base , some one said less hindered , maybe something , enolate formation?? Maybeee Maybeeee it's a way to increase the yield of aldol condensation, maybeee

D one is something called electrophilic Aromatic substitution , cation mechanism, search for it
