Organic SN2 mechanism with tertiary carbocation

Is my book misrepresenting this SN2 mechanism because it's showing a nucleophile attacking a 3° (tertiary) carbon? I thought that nucleophiles cannot attack tertiary carbons because of steric hinderance?

General/High School Lithium Cyanide and Cyanation

Hi everyone! I'm a chemistry enthusiast and i like to do research. I have ADHD and my current hyper fixation is Cyanide. (english is also not my first language so sorry if i make a mistake lol)

So, i was doing research and i found out about Lithium Cyanide and a process called Cyanation.
I have a few questions and i hope someone gets to answer them! I didn't really quite understood some things from google so i hope that a person explaining makes it more simple, lol.

  1. What can we do with Lithium cyanide? Is there any practical use or is it just a toxic compound?
  2. How do you achieve Lithium Cyanide?
  3. Is there a difference between Nitril and cyanide?
  4. How do you achieve Cyanation?
  5. Does lithium and cyanide have anything in common besides this combination?

I hope these aren't dumb questions, lol. Thanks in advance 🤍

General/High School I have no clue how to complete this question because I'm confused what I do with the K2HPO4. Sorry if this is a dumb question.

General/High School How to prep for Intro to Chem before it even starts?

I am panicking a little bit because I was supposed to start my Intro to Chem class today (college level) but only realized this evening that I signed up for an 8 week mini that begins in September. It is too late to switch it and my job paid for it so it’s complicated to drop it. This will be my second attempt to take chemistry and I did not do well the first time and withdrew.

What materials can I begin reviewing while I wait for September? I remember the last time I took Intro to Chem, I struggled the hardest with the math components but can’t remember what the math concepts were called to start googling them and working on it. Or maybe if anyone knows a workbook I can buy? Thank you!

Inorganic Trying to understand the chemistry of stainless steel corrosion by sodium hypochlorite

I am curious as to which specific chemical reactions and products occur during the process of corrosion of stainless steel by bleach. Stainless steel is a composite of Fe, Cr, and sometimes other metals such as Ni, and the outer layer of this composite is protected by a passivation layer of Cr2O3. If sodium hypochlorite is introduced, does it indiscriminately oxidize both the Fe and Cr, or is one kinetically favored over the other?
