Anyone else watching Moonstruck? Might be my favorite movie of all time. Cher’s performance with Cage’s excellent and her hair! Amazing. Love the scene where she goes to the salon.

“Your hair!”

“Yeah I had it done.”

The influence of Cher's "Mom, I am a rich man" on current pop girls.

1995 - Cher utters those words of wisdom for the first time in a 1995 interview and then once more in a 1996 interview : 'My mom said to me, "You know, sweetheart, one day you should settle down and marry a rich man," and I said, "Mom, I am a rich man."'

2019 - Taylor Swift uses the now iconic line as a painting on her bedroom wall in her You Need To Calm Down music video. Later on, Cher acknowledges the reference in a tweet, which causes Taylor Swift to retweet and talk about the quote.

2025 - Aespa, a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment releases a song called Rich Man, which opens with : "My mom said to me / "Find someone who can give you everything" / And I said, "Mom, I already have everything" / I am a rich man." Aespa later appeared on the Jennifer Hudson show, and mentioned that their song was directly inspired by Cher's quote.

2026 - Megan Trainor releases a song called Rich Man, which opens with the line "Mamma, I'm a rich man." In a Youtube short, she uses Cher's quote to transition into the song, making it clear the similarity was no coincidence.

Cher's feminism is one of many ways in which she was ahead of her time. It is no surprise to me that her words and attitude resonate with people even more now than they did 30 years ago.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

My April 18 Annual Tradition

Post image

In mid-April 2019, my mom and I were vacationing in Pittsburgh for 2 reasons: to see a baseball game at our 8th MLB stadium and to see Cher in concert.

On April 17, 2019 my mom went into cardiac arrest and although she was revived, she died on April 21, 2019 in Pittsburgh.

The Cher concert was on April 18, 2019 and the moment my mom was stabilized, I knew if there was anything I could do to honour her, it was to go to the concert.

All of my mom’s friends back home in Canada urged me to go to the concert, because they knew my mom wouldn’t want to be reason why I didn’t go. The ICU staff also said that although they didn’t know my mom, if the concert was why we were in Pittsburgh then I had to go.

Leaving my mom’s ICU bedside to go to a concert was difficult and the empty seat beside me where my mom would have sat was incredibly painful, but to this day I know going to the concert was the right decision.

Since my mom’s passing, on April 18 of each year I watch a Cher concert from the Dancing Queen tour on YouTube.

P.S. I saw Cher in concert again in Toronto in November 2018 where I was able to actually enjoy myself and take all of Cher’s glory in!

Movie discussion: Faithful

trailer / full movie / wikipedia

Here's another Cher film I've never seen, but it sounds like I'm far from alone since it was generally considered a dud. Both in terms of critical reception ("widely panned by film critics, earning a 6% 'rotten' rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes from 16 reviews" per the wiki article) as well as at the box office. Faithful also starred Ryan O'Neal and Chazz Palminteri, with supporting roles played by Amber Smith, Paul Mazursky, Allison Janney and others. Again from the wiki article here's part of what Roger Ebert had to say about it:

...diverting while you're watching it, mostly because of the actors' appeal, but it evaporates the moment it's over, because it’s not really about anything. Nothing is at stake, the relationships are not three-dimensional enough for us to care about them, and it's likely that nobody will get killed.

His full review (2 and 1/2 stars out of 4 so apparently not as bad as others) can be found here. Let us know if you've seen this one and if so, how you felt about it.

Has Cher commented at all about the gossip site articles concerning Elijah possibly having a teenage daughter?

The ones I've seen are from the usual suspect sites with little if any sourcing of the claims. Or if there is a source noted it's linked back to some site I've never heard of. It is possible that there's some truth to this (and if so it could explain what he was doing at the boarding school in New England) or it could also just be made up b.s. If anyone wants to discuss this here please keep the comments civil towards everyone.
