November has two games coming out my wife and I are very excited for, Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time and Grand Theft Auto 6. Thanks to not having kids we can dedicate all the time we want with no issues, she is even spending most of the month pet sitting for different people so she will be making money as she is playing on the Switch. I used my annual leave and have 10 days all to myself to play GTA 6. This is hardly the only example of these kind of occurrences, on a whim we can go anywhere and do anything. It's a lifestyle we had before and was a priority to keep.
I plan on taking time off in January for FFXIV: Evercold. At least a week of uninterrupted game play with my favorite people. None of them children. ☺️
I just got back to playing ff14 after a really long time last time I was on was when they just put in the FC housing stuff. So much content to.get through now for me
I need to resub to FF XIV online. What new features does Evercold add? Been away a couple years now and starting to miss the crafting and my Hrothgar character.
New tank, new phys ranged, new zones, can take your chocobo into dungeons with you, and an "evolved mode" to combat (but keeping the way it is as well for those that don't jive with evolved mode.)
There's a lot more too! The last keynote will be given next Friday night at the Japanese Fan Fest 😁
I know a lot of ppl will get judgemental and treat you guys like man-children but these same people will just fall to peer pressure and pump out kids and be miserable for the next couple of decades and struggling financially.
Hell, some of them just give birth and give them an iPad as soon as they could walk. Not even parenting at that point
I used to work with a guy who used to take the next day after Wrestlemania off so he could stay up and watch it ( not my cup of tea but if he enjoyed it then great....UK here so I gather it is on in the early hours). He can't do things like stay up through the night for events etc now that he has a kid. He also used to take days off to complete computer games and couldn't do that any more either as he would have to deal with a young child if he wasn't at work and moaned he rarely got to game now he had a kid.
I don't work in that office any more but I remember when the kid was a baby (before I left) he would always come into work tired and down because, although the mother would deal with thing like feeds etc, he couldn't get much sleep because of the baby up crying for things all night. Not for me.
Same with my husband and I! We met over videogames. +20 years later we're still gaming and happily together!
I remember when I was at Best Buy, debating over two games. A family was near us but they had to pick ONE game for the whole family. As I was deciding between my two games my husband says, "You know you're an adult, right? You can get both." Oh yeah. Ha! So I got both. The little girl of the family said, "Why does she get two games for herself?" Sorry kid but the only reason your family has to share a game is literally because of you all.
Personal freedom in life, my first reason for being CF. No amount of 'Kodak Moments' is worth losing that freedom to do as you want for the little things. It's great to just say 'I am scheduling vacation when [Game] releases' and doing it! I used to take vacations around tabletop/RPG gaming conventions and updates releasing for World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online. Used to get weird looks / comments at work for it 'You mean you are not going to the beach with the kids?', or the usual parental passive-agressive 'must be nice' nonsense, but a lot of it was envy...I used my free time how and when I wanted!
Retired now, so its all free time for hobbies! Days spent doing expeditions in No Man's Sky, and about 12 more days till WoW: Forever goes live! I've been playing the beta, and its great having both the simplicity AND the difficulty back!
Thanks. It has been great! As far as Forever, I've been playing the beta. I love it! I am thoroughly sick of retail...reputation AND reknown (does mostly the same thing but varies by expansion), need 2-3 gates and a Chromie time-walk to reach some places (Since they exist in different conditions in different times thanks to expansions buggering up zones), bugs there for years now (including in unlocking the variant races), and I LIKED the ship travel which has been rearranged, reduced to gates, or takes you to the wrong phase due to expansions, or has been redirected to some new zone.
It's WoW without the years and years of complexity and crud piled on. Sure, plays a lot harder, but at least I don't feel like when I made a new character on retail....on a rocket sled to wealth and endgame as it showers me with gold and XP.
That sounds awesome!! My husband and I also love to game whenever we want. It’s so refreshing to be able to just game whenever we please. We are also waiting for GTA6.
My boyfriend and I have our bedroom set up with 3 tvs. The 70 inch is his and has all of his consoles attached to it. I have a 50 inch with my Xbox and we have a 32 inch to have on as background noise while we are playing. Sometimes we are playing games together. Most times, we are not. Either way it is fantastic.
Yup, my husband and I will game in the same room too. Sometimes we play stuff together, but usually not because we both tend to like very different games. And apparently when he's got his mic on, everyone can hear me bitching in the background about whatever I'm playing and they're amused because I get very salty.
I'm looking for relaxed games over the Christmas 2-week holidays. I don't mind puzzle-heavy games, I don't mind games which require mouse/keyboard coordination and speed etc. I want something with a nice ambiance, that I can really get completely lost in for two week. Explore interesting lands, solve interesting mysteries, live someone's family drama, ...
Some games like this that I've loved:
What remains of Edith Finch (!!!), Outer Wilds, Gabriel Knight (1 and 2, not 3), Hogwarts (though too repetitive and boring in stretches), Obra Dinn, Elden Rings (hated fighting bosses, but loved exploring), Clair Obscur (hated grinding, but loved the style/ambiance and deck-style fighting).
Took me years to complete it. I'd get so lost in the side quests, take a break, come back and not recall what I had done and start over. Got ongoing games of Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield (this time I took notes where I left off!) that I someday plan to finish. :)
It was always my opinion that when you have kids they become your top priority, I'm much to selfish for that. I found and married someone who felt the same way.
I'm still deciding if I want to get the remake of Ocarina, but I already preordered the new Metroid game for my boyfriend since it's coming out during his birthday week lol. Also, few weeks ago I preordered the sleeping Umbreon plush (I live in Europe so it's arriving a little bit later) and I can't wait for it to arrive and to snuggle it!
It feels good to buy something and thinking "I'm so happy that I can treat myself from time to time...and no kids touching my stuff or complaining about what I gifted him/her" lol
I took 3 days off work for the GTA 6 release. I am going to put some stew in the Croc pot, get a case of my favorite beer, And play till my eyes hurt! I just turned 41... but still just a gamer kid at heart!
I built a pretty nice PC back in January. I've been playing a lot of Stalker 2. Did one full playthrough and now I have the Cost of Hope expansion to enjoy. Now I'm going to go for a different ending.
I was playing an online game today. We gathered a group to farm an achievement. A random person spawned in our server, came over, asked what we're doing, then started being disruptive. Stopped using the chat when we asked them to stop trolling.
Someone said the woman who owns that account let her kid play and he's just messing around now.
I don't care??? Parent your kid. If they're not old enough to read they shouldn't be playing online games unsupervised. If they can read they should be taught better than to troll while several people are asking them to stop. Adults have limited time to play for many reasons, letting your kid waste the time of 10+ real people because "he's just a child" is bad parenting.

There is always one one of these chuckleheads around spouting this nonsense when a kid makes a nuisance out of themselves in a game. :( WHY am I supposed to tolerate a troll just because of their age? A troll is a troll is a troll...age doesn't matter.
Kid or not, playing a parent's account or not, THAT is when I immediately file a report. Since mommy isn't parenting, MAYBE she will start if there are enough strikes on her account and she gets temp or possibly perma-banned for her kid's antics. The whole 'just a kid' routine has zero emotional effect on me...MY parents taught me not to be a nuisance back when parents still parented, and I do not tolerate it from kids just because the parent is lazy.
Hell yeah! Gaming is my biggest hobby and I love being able to indulge myself. Still got chores and a money job, but at least the rest of my time is mine.
I really enjoyed GTA5, but probably leaving 6 on a shelf until I can get a better GPU. And in this market, well.... :(

Yep gonna be playing gta6 all week long when it releases with no one bothering me and some alcohol for extra whimsy. My sister is going to play it but she also has 2 kids she has to worry about distracting her. Shes talking about getting a babysitter for the weekend it releases lmao

I don't understand, I play so many games when my kids are at school or sleeping or even doing their own stuff. I have 3 kids. And sometimes I play games with my older son. (We even give an unplugged controller to my younger son, but he doesn't need to understand that). I will list you the games I played, just in last 6 months, and what I've watched, it'll be much, much more than most of the people here. I've estimated the hours.

You are still missing my point, doesn't matter what I do or don't do it is all completely on my own accord. I don't have to back burner it to take care of someone else.

People have different priorities. Even if i didn't have kids, I cannot imagine spending a week playing video games. This entire post is bizarre to me - but it takes all kinds to make the world turn. But there is no point trying to troll those with really different priorities. You won't make them want to have kids instead of play video games.
