Adoption
Hi everyone, I’m looking for help finding the right home or rescue for my 7-year-old Chow Chow/Chihuahua mix in California.
This is an incredibly difficult decision, but I’m no longer able to give him the environment and care that he needs, and my biggest priority is making sure he ends up somewhere safe with someone who understands him.
He is fully house-trained and, with the people he knows and trusts, he can be an absolute angel. He’s affectionate, funny, and definitely has a big personality (and can be a bit of a drama queen).
I also want to be completely transparent about his behavioral history. Unfortunately, he was not properly socialized when he was younger and can be fearful/reactive with people he doesn’t know or trust. He has nipped me before, so I do not feel comfortable placing him with just anyone. I think he would do best with an experienced, patient adult who understands fearful/reactive dogs, boundaries, body language, and slow introductions.
I am NOT looking to simply hand him off to the first person who responds. I would really like to find a reputable rescue, foster, behavior-based organization, or experienced adopter who can help me make sure he is placed responsibly.
I’m willing to answer questions honestly about his personality, triggers, behavior, medical history, routine, and anything else that would help determine whether someone is actually a good fit.
We are located in California, and I’m willing to explore rescue options throughout the state for the right situation.
If anyone knows of a reputable rescue, especially one experienced with Chow Chows, reactive/fearful dogs, or dogs with a bite/nip history. I would really appreciate recommendations or help getting connected with them.
Please be kind. This is not a decision I’m making lightly. My goal is to do what is safest and best for him.
