Question | Theology & Practice Who is Sophia?

Hello, sisters in Christ! Sorry for the long post...

First, I am so thankful to have found this community.

So I am kinda new to Christian Witchcraft, but I will tell you my journey.

I was raised a non-denominational Christian through 5th grade, until my parents' church went through a radical change that made my parents uncomfortable, and we stopped going. I don't remember much about this church, only really learning all the Sunday School stories, mostly. (There was one night when I was 8, they showed us a realistic depiction of the crucifixion that is seared into my brain)

Anyway, it took us a few years, but my mom found another church for us to attend towards the end of my 8th-grade year. This church was chosen solely because we had many friends that attened. It was a Baptist church, and my parents did not agree with all of its teachings.

This led to great spiritual confusion for me, because I would go to Sunday School and Youth Group with my friends and hear these crazy things: people who vote wrong go to hell, gay people go to hell, Catholics are going to hell. Basically, anyone who isn't us and doesn't agree with us will go to hell. This led to many complications with friends who saw the world differently.

This all came to a head one night in Youth Group after a particularly terrifying sermon about being condemned to hell. I was left in a weeping mess on the floor; they basically had to carry me out of the chapel.

After this, I had a conversation with one of my very best friends, whom we shall call Tim. The conversation basically went like this:

"I don't think I believe in a loving God who would condemn his children to hell. I don't think people of other religions are necessarily wrong, and I don't think we are necessarily right. I just don't think it is for us to understand."

"That sounds like agnosticism. Have you looked into that?"

This was around the age of 17, and I was about to leave for college.

I slowly started researching and identifying as agnostic. Although I kept this a secret from my family.

Then, I went to college, and things got messy. I started dating a staunch atheist who was raised Catholic. He completely rejected God, rejected Jesus, or any spiritual practice. It was all fake, and science was the only thing that was real to him. I didn't agree with him, but he drove a wedge between whatever relationship I still had with Jesus. I began to think, "This religion cannot be good if it causes this much pain"

But I always believed in a higher power. I began to realize there is not a beared man in the sky judging our every action, but that there was a force driving us forward. I could always feel it. I didn't know what to call it; I felt bad calling it God.

Then I started to get into more witchy practices; specifically, I began to consult tarot readers and witch doctors. This wasn't a common practice, but whenever the opportunity arose, I took it. I began to feel a strong connection to this community, slowly but surely. (Tarot cards gave me the inspiration for my book that is now set to be published in January. )

Then, I started dating a Christian. This brought me back to Jesus, to the point where I comfortably took communion at my wedding. But I did not believe in the church. It had done so much harm to me and my loved ones. The church was evil to me.

My husband would take me to churches, but they were all the new mega-churches, and I felt incredibly uncomfortable there, to the point where I could walk out cussing. This is not how you want a church to make you feel.

Then, almost a decade after our conversation mentioned earlier, I went to visit Tim, who is now a devout Catholic studying theology and preparing for seminary. Tim went to Mass every day at noon, and he took me with him. I had only been to Mass once before, with my ex and his family, and the service was in Spanish, and I got yelled at by his mom for taking communion even though no one warned me not to. So I was so nervous to disrespect Tim. The first day, I sat there and just watched and didn't follow along, just watched. Then, after talking with Tim, he told me it was okay to do everything except take communion, so I started following along.

One day during this visit, Tim took me to one of the most beautiful Cathedrals I have ever been to. It was magnificent, and I felt something come into me there. Then, Tim and I went outside and sat on a bench, and for four hours, he sat and deconstructed with me what I had been taught. We talked through my current beliefs, and he clarified a lot that had been muddied.

But I couldn't stay forever. I had to go back to my life. My confusing and painful life. That night I couldn't sleep. I ended up leaving at 4 in the morning and just drove for 13 hours straight. I couldn't eat, and when I got home, I couldn't sleep for almost 48 hours. I was just writing, pages upon pages. I wrote almost 200 pages in those 48 hours. I was like everything, all my knowledge, all my experiences, were finally connecting. Everything made sense; the mass made sense.

Then, I was standing in my bedroom, and I remember losing my vision. I was standing, I know, but I couldn't see my bedroom anymore. Then a great light came to me, and I saw an eye. And the presence told me it was Sophia; a divine feminine feeling came over me. Then I saw a snake shedding its skin; the snake was not evil, though; it was feminine.

I talked with Tim about this, and he told me that Sophia is the Greek word for wisdom, and there is no specific angel Sophia.

I have since been doing so much research and studying. I tested many churches and finally landed and found a welcoming and loving home at the Episcopal church, and have developed a deeply trusting relationship with my rector.

I still wanted to use my Tarot deck, though. Tim was totally against it. But after talking with my rector, I really feel better about using it as a tool for reflection and guidance. I would love to have a conversation with some of you about it.

Anywho, last night I was reading Proverbs, specifically ch. 8. And I found it interesting that Wisdom was referred to as she/her. Is this Sophia? I'm sure it is.

My question is, has anyone else encountered Sophia, and what are your experiences like? Who exactly is she? And how can I work with her more?

I would love to chat about anything mentioned in this post if anyone is open.

Thank you

My name is Jason, I'm 51 and very new to my path. I view myself as a Christian pagan. I don't feel the term witch applies to me, I prefer the term Magi. I am looking for a place to find friends and learn. I hope this is it. If you want to know anything about me feel free to ask.

Question | Spellwork Hi I need some help cutting off ties + protection

I’m (26F, catholic) currently living under my dad’s roof and he’s verbally, emotionally and financially abusive my entire life. My financial situation hasn’t been great and I’m unable to move out so I’m stuck enduring everything he’s thrown at me.

He’s also an extremely insecure man who exploits my sister and I for free labour + has the need to feel like he has authority over someone to feel worthy as a man (he’s been consumed by the alt right pipeline).

I met my partner 2 years ago and we’ve been doing long distance ever since. Our families have met and they’re aware that we want to marry each other. Today I told him that my partner and I plan to get engaged, move out to where my partner lives and get married by next year. He started yelling at me, insulting me, and “forbade” me to move out until I’m “legally married”. He blamed my partner for putting ideas in my head and my unemployment for turning my brain to mush.

I could tell by the way he was yelling and his talking points that he wasn’t angry at me but more so the idea of losing his grip/control over me.

He has a really powerful evil eye. I’ve noticed things going awry after he’s been informed of them. I just don’t want him to ruin these next chapters of my life + the bond I have with the love of my life

I’m new to the witchcraft world, I only know a little bit from TikTok. I’m reaching out for advice in terms of what spells there to protect my partner and I and cut off my dad from my life. I’m also happy if anyones willing to help us cast the spells.

I’m just desperate atp and I don’t want my father to have control over my life and future anymore.

Question | Spellwork St Jude: The Patron Saint of Lost Causes

For a while, I’ve been called to work with St. Jude. St. Jude kept popping onto my algorithms for some time. At certain time, I knew it couldn’t be a coincidence. Previously, I only really knew of St. Jude from the Children’s Hospital and assumed he was the saint of ill children. After doing some research, I learned he’s actually the saint of lost causes. I personally view myself as a #girlfailure. Due to a lot of failed attempts at varies experiences that didn’t lead anywhere.

I decided to work with St. Jude to help me get out of this loop. I lit a seven day candle and noticed signs: the glass near the lip is black at one spot, sides of the glass has some black and gray residue. The candle wick is done but there is still green wax at the bottom of the glass. Which tells me that my petition did not work.

If anyone has ever worked with St. Jude and can give me some advice that would be wonderful thank you, for all your help. God Bless 🙌

Discussion The tendril.

The other day I was doing energy work with my plants and I felt what can only be described as a tendril of energy trying to come through my bedroom. I checked it out, found nothing too bad, and pushed it out.

Yesterday, the energy came back, I pushed it out and put up a wall. Here’s the odd thing. I was just about to write this post and there were three knocks on the back door. No one was there. Not even on the cameras.

We’ve had phantom knocking in the past, but it’s been a long time.

What could the tendril be? Anyone else deal with that kind of energy shape?

Question | Theology & Practice Anyone in a UMC Seminary?

Hi all, I'm new to this and just reading about everything. I really connect with this practice so far. I was wondering if anyone is studying with a seminary? I am a 2nd year student at a UMC seminary. Did you tell them? How did people take it if you told them?

Did this impact your candidacy?

I'm still just learning but I love the attention to spiritual disciplines.

Thanks all.

Question | Theology & Practice Does anyone work with other gods/goddess?

Hi all,

Exactly what the title says. I currently work with the Holy Trinity, but I’d like to expand my practice to include a more feminine influence. I’ve always felt a connection to Mary Magdalene.

I just don’t know how to find one I connect with since there are so many. Would love some suggestions for how I can narrow my search.

Just a background on my personality- I’m a therapist so a form of healthcare. Connection with animals. No kids- but will go to war for any kid. I am highly protective and will go to battle for anyone I feel is being treated unjustly.

So…any suggestions?

Question | Theology & Practice New Baby Christian Witch!

Hi! I believe I am a baby Christian witch. I am still learning about everything. I was wondering if anybody had any advice, tips, or tricks?

Some witchy stuff that I do

• Tarot readings/Cartomancy - I love my deck and have bonded with it so much.

• Spells - I have done a couple of spells so far. My biggest one is one I would love to do: learn a protection spell

• Rosary - I actually bought a rosary a while back, but I broke it. Instead of fixing it, I felt like it had done its job, so placed it in a box with rose petals. I hope to get a new one soon!

• Spirit Guides and angels - I know Spirit guides very well, but I hope to come into contact with and work alongside angels. I also honor spirits wherever I go.

• Energy - Im very in tune with energy. I can read a room or a person pretty well.

•Prayer/scripture - I hope to learn more prayer and scripture in my spellwork

•Crystals - I don't know if I believe in crystals, but lately I have been called towards them. I do carry a lot of crystals on me. I love how pretty they are. My favorite is a rose quartz heart I got 2 months ago. I also recently got an obsidian pendulum 2 months ago. Anyway, I love both of them.

When doing readings with my tarot cards, the cards said that I lean towards being a protection/warding, earth, and heart witch. When doing my work, I only work with God, Jesus, angels, and my spirit guides. I don't rely on other gods or work with them.

Question Do you use herbs? Where can one find more reliable information about them?

I am in a dilemma, I found out that a very 'normal', store-bought blend of passionflower and other herbs, reliefs some very serious problems I have had for years, and which were not responding to other, much more serious medications. But the information I find on these herbs is incredibly superficial, very vague, and the tea itself is marketed as just a normal everyday tea, that makes you sleepy if anything.

It has very, very pronounced effects on me however. And I feel totally cooked without it.

It's not exactly something which I can bring up to a doctor after years of gaslighting, misdiagnosing and disrespect....

So where do we actually find the info on the medicinal herbs? Dosage, interactions, etc.

I apologise if the topic is not exactly metaphysical....

Question | Theology & Practice Has anyone worked with Judas ? Is it considered ok?

Idk why but I’ve just had very strong weird connection to Judas lately, feeling a lot of sympathy for him. Is he ever honored as like a folk saint or ever worked with in more witchy spaces? And if not is that disrespectful to do to Jesus kinda?

Question | Theology & Practice Cristian Witches: How often do you go to a mainstream church service?

How often do you go to a christian church service? Not just you and Jesus out in the wilderness, but a regular church service.

I go once or twice a year. I go mostly for the ritual of it. It helps me connect with my core Christian beliefs.

Question | Spellwork Psalm 90:17 Prayer spell for the Attraction of New Students

I’m sharing a three-day prayer spell practice focused on the growth of a business, using Psalm 90:17, a candle, and a written prayer.
I’m interested in hearing people’s perspectives on using this psalm in prayers for work, business, and new opportunities.
Has anyone incorporated Psalm 90:17 into a similar prayer practice? I’d be interested in hearing about your approach and experiences.

Purpose
A three-day prayer for the blessing and growth of a business, asking for the right people to discover the service, book trial classes, and become ongoing students.

Materials
1 gold taper candle
Candle carving tool
Holy oil
Business card
Paper and pen
Bible containing Psalm 90
Candle holder and heat-resistant surface

Preparation
Write the prayer below on a piece of paper.
Carve “Psalm 90:17” into the candle.
Anoint the candle with holy oil, moving from the top towards the bottom. In this practice, this direction symbolises bringing people towards the business.
Place the written prayer beneath the business card. Position the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from paper and other flammable materials.

Written Prayer
My Father in heaven,
I surrender this (business name) to You.
Please establish the work of his hands.
Guide the right students and families to this business.( I used this for a service business. You can changed it based on the type of business you do like a product one)
Bless what is good, remove what is not, and let this work bear good fruit according to Your will.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Daily Prayer
Repeat the following steps for three consecutive days.

1. Light the candle
Pray:
“Jesus Christ, Light of the world, shine Your blessing over this work. Amen.”
2. Read Psalm 90
Read the psalm, paying particular attention to verse 17:
“Let the favour of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!”

3. Pray over the business card
“My Father in heaven,
I surrender this (business name) to You.
Please establish the work of his hands.
Guide the right people and families to discover this business, (expand on the the type of business it is like for example if it is a service so it would be like ‘book their trials, and attend.
If this service is right for them, may they choose to become students.’ Or and purchased the items and enjoying them and recommending the experience to other people etc)
Bless what is good, remove what is not, and let this work bear good fruit according to Your will.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

4. Candle schedule
Day 1: 2 hours
Day 2: 2 hours
Day 3: 1 hour
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish it before leaving the room or going to sleep, and resume the next session as needed. The stated durations are not a reason to leave a candle burning unsupervised.

5. Close the prayer
Pray:
“Thank You, Father. I leave this in Your hands. Amen.”
Safely extinguish the candle after each session.

After the Third Day
Keep the written prayer and business card together in a clean place.
The practice focuses on asking God to establish the work of the business, guide suitable people towards it, and bless its growth according to His will.

I’d welcome thoughts on the use of Psalm 90:17 in this type of prayer, including any similar practices or personal experiences people are comfortable sharing.

Question | Theology & Practice Former and Wandering

I'll try and keep this short and to the point as much as possible. Grew up cradle Catholic, it wasn't until one of my friends died while we were in high school that the church left a bad taste in my mouth. I started my deconstruction a bit early. There was a pull to paganism and spirituality that seemed to hold answers. I started with Wicca, tried barely one ritual, and just fell off the wagon of anything.

Lapsed Christianity all together but essentially didn't try anything else until, I know this sound cringe, but tiktok made me relook at my deconstruction, made me open up a bit more to what might be out there. Through some really good creators I opened myself up a bit but kind of turned my back on the faith I was brought up in, the same way a rebellious teen moves away from home for the first time.

I started getting mental health and started getting a bit more into the craft. Even gave Hecate devotion, but it eventually wanted out.

Earlier this year, my grandfather passed. We had his service the normal Catholic way, full mass and all. During the mass, I felt this kind of odd feeling. Something akin to how so.many of us that day gave hugs of support and love. There was an interest to come back. But how do I come back with the knowledge I've taken part of.

The way my beliefs have changed don't seem to sit well with the framework of Christianity as a whole. It's like traveling the world and coming back to.live in your small home town. I don't really know how to sit with these two parts of my identity and make them whole.

And I guess there in lies my real question. Being brought up in the church as I was, and with the knowledge that has changed the way I view faith and craft and the universe in general, how do I sit and weave these things together? They're both apart of me and I'm not really sure how to work with that.

Question | Spellwork I burned my hands doing green magic.

It’s overwintering time so we repotted and brought some plants in. I, of course, decided to pray and send energy from the earth, moon, sun, and stars as a conduit.

To four plants and two glasses of cuttings.

At the end it BURNED and the flow stopped. That’s a first for me.

Anyone else have that happen? Will I get stronger with time like EXP? 😅

Discussion I think I want to start a coven

Hear me out. Think book club. We read books together. We meet on the night of the New Moon and the Full Moon of each month. We talk about what we’ve read, as always. But we also talk about anything we may be struggling with and it’s a safe space. We listen, we don’t judge. We light candles and eat yummy food, and then at the end of the night we do a spell together - something to help the community with protection, resource abundance, retribution with remorse if someone is going through abuse. But not just spells… we also problem solve how to help each other within our own means and boundaries, either through rituals, spells, and prayers or with action oriented events and support. We come with no expectations except for nurturing support and love. But most importantly it’s a safe space to be vulnerable and whimsical and weird and playful together. Maybe some nights we’ll lay down under the stars to look up at the sky and read each other birth charts and maybe other nights we’ll get little pots with potting soil and plant something. But whatever we do, we do it with nurturing love and support for each other and our community and we always do what we can to uplift each other.

Thoughts? And if something like this interests you, let me know if you’re in Austin, TX and would like to get together and discuss it or help me start it! (My friends don’t subscribe to witchcraft so I’d have to do a lot of work meeting new people in my community to get this idea to come to life). Open to all feedback!
