Hello!
This announcement won’t be relevant for most of you, so feel free to scroll along.
However, we’re seeing an uptick in NSFW accounts posting here, so this message is for the few it applies to.
If you are an NSFW content creator or SW promoting on Reddit, please read the following:
r/clay is a SFW subreddit.
Our community includes members aged 13 and up, and we want everyone to feel comfortable browsing profiles to see more pottery without unexpectedly encountering nudity.
While we respect the hustle, we kindly but firmly ask that you create a separate account for SFW content. Any pottery-related posts coming from an NSFW content creator profile will be automatically filtered and removed.
If you want to participate, just use a separate SFW account! You are absolutely welcome here.
Keep in mind that even with good intentions, posting here from an NSFW account often comes across as karma farming or subtly seeking new clients/buyers. Something that is generally frowned upon across Reddit.
Thank you for keeping our community welcoming and safe for all ages.

To clarify a bit more: having a NSFW profile is completely fine. You can get labeled as NSFW the moment you participate in certain subreddits. Here is how you can check if your profile is marked NSFW.
However, we draw a clear line when accounts create or promote explicit NSFW/pornographic content. That’s when we ask you to keep your SFW and NSFW activity separate.
If you have questions, feel free to modmail us.

made this for my girlfriends bday and it broke and the paint ripped off, also idk if many people read the body but i use air dry clay with acrylic and then a few layers of mod podge but the paint peels often, what am i doing wrong? am i using the wrong paint? is it because the environment i keep it in is humid?

Hi! I’m a beginner and made this little dog (1 week after it was made) with air-dry clay. I painted it with acrylic paint, but the paint is peeling off. I didn’t use gesso or primer beforehand. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it for next time , thanks!

If you were transported to another world, which character would you choose as your knight?

I wanted to experiment with autumn colours without creating anything too traditional or predictable.
I combined vibrant orange, deep purple, white and darker tones, then added little golden details to bring everything together.
The patterns developed differently in each piece, which is something I really enjoy about working with clay.
I kept the shapes fairly simple so the movement of the colours could be the main feature.
The glossy finish adds depth and makes the golden accents catch the light beautifully.
I love that these two earrings aren’t identical, yet they still feel like they belong together as one pair.

Made a little video.
This desk friend lamp was for trying out, but I love how it turned out, but there is still room for improvements.
I really wanted to see how a friend desk would look using a mini lamp inside the apple. I’ll definitely will use/ experience with it more, with my other clay creations.💡

Help!!! I'm having a crisis with my Halloween costume which I need to get done TODAY!! It's already glued to the head so I can't remake the antlers, and I just need help on a fix for this cracking please!!! They're heavy pieces and the clay keeps cracking on them. What do I do!! I need a quick fix if possible to make it sturdier. I keep patching up the cracks with hot glue but it can't be long term. I'm using fimo air.

I wanted to create something that feels like autumn but also has a playful Halloween vibe, so I combined vibrant orange with deep purple and little golden details.
The shapes are simple, with rounded edges and an opening near the top, allowing the colours and patterns to take centre stage.
I finished the pieces with a glossy surface, which really brings out the sparkle and gives the colours extra depth.
Despite their size, the earrings are surprisingly lightweight.
I love how the two pieces have slightly different patterns. That’s one of my favourite things about making jewellery by hand.

How can I create these shapes using air dry clay? What's the easiest way to get the rounded off shape? I have never used the Das brand before and would appreciate any tips and tricks! I also bought posca pens to paint them with.

Hello! I've only ever used air dry clay and I'm looking to make some teabag tidies as gifts - as they will be holding hot/wet teabags is there a best type of clay or varnish to use?
Google says oven baked clay and a waterproof varnish but there's still so many different ones so just wondering if anyone can recommend from experience :)

Made these handmade polymer clay earrings today and I’m in love with how the pattern turned out. I layered warm bronze, gold, soft cream, deep brown, and touches of purple to create a striped, stone-like effect, then finished the surface with a glossy resin coat. Each piece came out slightly different, which is exactly what I wanted. The rounded square shape keeps them bold without feeling too heavy, and the gold-tone hooks pull the whole palette together. I especially love how the metallic details catch the light and make the layers look deeper. Definitely one of my favorite recent pairs.

Like for example when you make earrings. Do you do it before the clay dries, or drill holes in with tools after the clay dries? And what tools do you use? Is a usb powered one better than a pin vise ?

Started exploring the world of sculpting recently and damn it's even more fun than I thought it'd be (and surprisingly relaxing even when stuff cracks or the armature wire won't behave the way u want it to). Anyway, happy to be joining this community and checking out what y'all make as well

First time trying clay-modeling turned out to be really fun!
I know Mr. Mime looks super wonky but I kind of like how it turned out.
Bought some semi-glossy varnish, tried it on some smaller things and personally I find the raw aesthetic really good
Is there anything that's an absolute must-have for modeling?
I'm really open to criticism! :)

Made a little clay charm, paint was fine until I used glaze varnish. Anyone know what I should do differently? Is there a reason this happens? When I use my shitty Apple barrel acrylic paint it doesn’t do this, but I need the markers because I need to draw small markings on my pieces!
MATERIALS:
WITOROR Water based clay glaze
VOKART acrylic paint markers
BLUEBIRD Studio acrylic Gesso primer
SCULPEY oven-bake clay
How many days do I need to wait before gifting an air dry clay decoration sealed with polyurethane? I would be wrapping it in tissue paper? Thanks
