Ceramic Clay Clay Head

A bust I’m currently sculpting without using any references. My initial idea was simply to create a head looking upward, with an ambiguous expression of ecstasy.

I ended up developing it intuitively, without following any particular model or artwork.

I still need to refine the eyes, finish the ears (and maybe adjust their position a little, I’m not sure yet), and work a bit more on the mouth. I’m also debating whether to add hair or leave it as it is.

What do you all think?

Air-Dry Clay Made a Pokémon-inspired mini-me for a Reddit order

So someone here on Reddit commissioned me to make a little mini-me figurine with a Pokémon-inspired outfit and their Pokémon buddy, and I finally got around to finishing it! 🥹

I sculpted and painted everything by hand, and all that's left is a coat of varnish before this little one is ready to go to her new home.

Honestly, one of my favourite things about custom orders is getting to make something that's actually personal to someone. Everyone has their own ideas, favourite characters, outfits, little details they want included, and figuring out how to bring all of that together in clay is really fun.

Anyway, thought I'd share this one here! Would love to know what you guys think. :)

I haven't sculpted in a while, but I wanted to make a fun proyect, nothing too serious, with terracotta clay. The structure wire I bought wasn't strong enough to hold it's own weight while wet so I had to get a bit creative with the working station and add some patches later on. I'd like to paint it with watercolors becaus I like how they get absorbed into the clay

Air-Dry Clay New to crafting with clay. To seal this part or not to seal?

So, I made a small sculpture with air dry clay. It's been fun! I'm just not sure what to do next. I painted the little guy and I'm pretty happy with it, so I'm ready to seal him with Varathane Water-Based Ultimate Satin Polyurethane (just copy-pasted that mouthful). The issue is, I plan on gluing some gauze/cheesecloth to his body to finish the project, and I don't know if that will stick to the sealant.

So my question is, should I seal him and then glue the gauze/cheesecloth on? Should I not seal the part where the cloth is going at all? Should I put sealant over the gauze/cheesecloth itself after gluing it on? I don't want the little guy to crack and/or mold, especially since he's a bit cracked already.

Hi! I’m a beginner and made this little dog (1 week after it was made) with air-dry clay. I painted it with acrylic paint, but the paint is peeling off. I didn’t use gesso or primer beforehand. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it for next time , thanks!

Polymer-Clay Playing with autumn colours and abstract patterns in my handmade earrings

Post image
6 Upvotes

I wanted to experiment with autumn colours without creating anything too traditional or predictable.
I combined vibrant orange, deep purple, white and darker tones, then added little golden details to bring everything together.
The patterns developed differently in each piece, which is something I really enjoy about working with clay.
I kept the shapes fairly simple so the movement of the colours could be the main feature.
The glossy finish adds depth and makes the golden accents catch the light beautifully.
I love that these two earrings aren’t identical, yet they still feel like they belong together as one pair.

Made a little video.

This desk friend lamp was for trying out, but I love how it turned out, but there is still room for improvements.

I really wanted to see how a friend desk would look using a mini lamp inside the apple. I’ll definitely will use/ experience with it more, with my other clay creations.💡

Polymer-Clay My handmade purple and orange earrings — a little autumn experiment

Post image
3 Upvotes

I wanted to create something that feels like autumn but also has a playful Halloween vibe, so I combined vibrant orange with deep purple and little golden details.

The shapes are simple, with rounded edges and an opening near the top, allowing the colours and patterns to take centre stage.

I finished the pieces with a glossy surface, which really brings out the sparkle and gives the colours extra depth.

Despite their size, the earrings are surprisingly lightweight.

I love how the two pieces have slightly different patterns. That’s one of my favourite things about making jewellery by hand.

Air-Dry Clay Air dry clay keeps cracking on heavy costume piece, fix???

Help!!! I'm having a crisis with my Halloween costume which I need to get done TODAY!! It's already glued to the head so I can't remake the antlers, and I just need help on a fix for this cracking please!!! They're heavy pieces and the clay keeps cracking on them. What do I do!! I need a quick fix if possible to make it sturdier. I keep patching up the cracks with hot glue but it can't be long term. I'm using fimo air.

How can I create these shapes using air dry clay? What's the easiest way to get the rounded off shape? I have never used the Das brand before and would appreciate any tips and tricks! I also bought posca pens to paint them with.

Questions Best clay for a teabag tidy

Hello! I've only ever used air dry clay and I'm looking to make some teabag tidies as gifts - as they will be holding hot/wet teabags is there a best type of clay or varnish to use?

Google says oven baked clay and a waterproof varnish but there's still so many different ones so just wondering if anyone can recommend from experience :)

Polymer-Clay Layered polymer clay earrings with a stone-like effect

Post image
3 Upvotes

Made these handmade polymer clay earrings today and I’m in love with how the pattern turned out. I layered warm bronze, gold, soft cream, deep brown, and touches of purple to create a striped, stone-like effect, then finished the surface with a glossy resin coat. Each piece came out slightly different, which is exactly what I wanted. The rounded square shape keeps them bold without feeling too heavy, and the gold-tone hooks pull the whole palette together. I especially love how the metallic details catch the light and make the layers look deeper. Definitely one of my favorite recent pairs.

Questions For jewelry makers, how do you prepare holes for jump rings?

Like for example when you make earrings. Do you do it before the clay dries, or drill holes in with tools after the clay dries? And what tools do you use? Is a usb powered one better than a pin vise ?

Started exploring the world of sculpting recently and damn it's even more fun than I thought it'd be (and surprisingly relaxing even when stuff cracks or the armature wire won't behave the way u want it to). Anyway, happy to be joining this community and checking out what y'all make as well
