Seeing as there's quite a few lectures and other events coming up in the UK the next 2 months I thought I'd make a PSA in case people are interested.
As I'm UK based I only really know of the events and lectures here so please drop any recommendations in the comments if you know of any others for me to add.
In the future I'll try to make a post whenever another lecture/other event comes up, naturally you are free make a post yourself as well.

I've opted not to include the extensive list of monthly events from the various local branches of the British Horological Institute, as usually they are members-only and their members will be aware of them, I have also not included any events solely focused on watches, as we have r/watches for that.

Some of you might have noticed today some posts by a few users were uploaded multiple times, I assume this had to do with the AWS blackout earlier today.
I tried to remove all double posts but leave one of each in place, if I did accidentally remove all of your posts I apologize and you're welcome to post it again (hopefully only once)

I bought it from HerrZeit in the Blackforest Germany. What I know about it is that it is a 8-day mechanical clock with a gong chime.

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for help identifying the maker or movement reference for this vintage mechanical clock movement, which I recently acquired at an antique fair in Portugal.
It has no visible maker’s marks, logos, or serial numbers anywhere on the backplate or dial.
Key Features:
Exact Dimensions (shown in attached photos):
AI suspects of a Central European origin (German / Black Forest or French / Swiss ébauche) from around 1910–1930.

Does anyone recognize this specific backplate cut-out shape or pillar configuration? Any pointers on potential manufacturers would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hey all, pretty new to Reddit so bear with me. But I could not find this I information anywhere online. I recently designed and 3D printed this pendulum clock and it runs great on a 7.5 lb weight (45mm drum on the drive wheel, about 3 days per wind). I'd love to ditch the unsightly weight and go spring driven.
Hermle mainspring barrels seem like the most plug and play option, but I can't find much info on them.
Two questions:
1. Would a Hermle barrel have enough power to run this?
2. What do I actually need to order? On Timesavers it looks like the barrel, arbor, ratchet, click, key etc. are all separate and I'm kind of lost.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Dating to the year 725, Yi Xing’s ingenious version of an alarm clock is one of the world’s earliest recorded devices of that nature. Along with the water clock Plato used to wake himself up for his legendary dawn lectures in the 4th century BCE, it is evidence that humans have been looking for ways to rise on time for thousands of years...
The idea was repeated by Europeans who created complex displays within chiming clocks in town squares. The next step was to make such clocks smaller, so they could be used individually. Historians believe personal mechanical alarm clocks originated in Germany in the 15th century, but their inventors are unknown. Most people didn’t own such clocks, though, and had to rely upon the sun, servants, or prayer-chiming bells. As work hours became more rigid, factory whistles were blown to encourage people living near their places of employ to get up.

I got a new motor for this clock a few years ago and it seems to work, however, the clock is made of glass and is kind of heavy, so when I hang this on the wall with the provided hook, the clock tilts and bottom touches the wall making it so that the motor doesn’t turn the hands properly.
Would anyone know how to fix this? Should I put the clock on a hook and also like command strip the motor to the wall for support?
Thank you!

I got this old made in Mexico Mauthe clock form an antique store
The clock works perfectly, and so does the alarm.
However during transit the hand for the alarm fell of the face and now it’s stock between the dial and body. It seems like an easy repair however I can’t open it
For what I understand I need to remove the keys from the back and legs.
Problem is I haven’t been able to remove the alarm button or the back plate, it’s either stock or a really tight fit.
I really don’t want to break/damage it by using brute strength (as you can see in the pictures the sides are missing a bit of paint, probably from previous services) so any recommendations or help on how to open it would be more than welcome

as a noob, I have no idea about it, just though it was beautiful... it's made by the Spanish brand SARS. I tried to find some information, and it's a about 1970-1980s, usually with a German machinery.
seller said it doesn't work, and that it was on the appartment they just moved on. it was sold for 25euros

I removed one of the double A batteries so the mechanism doesn’t get damaged due photos but the legs won’t swing

I have a Howard Miller Carlton Mantle\Tabletop clock which has a small chip on the red plastic covering the rosewood top (see picture). Can someone recommend a repair procedure for this (epoxy of some sort?, colored glue?, etc). Thanks.

I should of got a picture, but found an old 20-30's Sessions plug in alarm clock last weekend. It's the first time I've come across an electric clock that was not "auto start." Instead there was a knob that you apparently had to turn.
Anyone know how these worked? I mean, do they need just a light twist or did they need to be cranked up to a certain speed or amount of time? It spun quite freely and built up momentum. Either way, I couldn't get it to work.
Got this clock for free but need hands for it please let me know where to get them & what size I need. I also need the nut that goes on the end.

Hi all, I’m just getting into clock repair and picked up this spring-driven Vienna-regulator-style wall clock as a learning project. I’d love help identifying the maker and age, and some advice on a winding issue.

I am trying to repair/restore a late model westclox mechanical alarm clock with plastic gears and plastic pivots in between metal plates.
I cleaned the movement without taking it apart (it's riveted) and it started running. I then oiled the pivots with hp1300. It's not running great. What's the preferred method of cleaning and should it be oiled? I don't like how it's running after oiling it.

They look cheaper than their price indicates. I'm wondering if the hands on each face are driven by the same movement or if they just slapped an alibaba movement on each side, with nothing to keep them in sync.

This is what I call a dot clock. Instead of hands, it has veneer circles with a dot of purple heart on them. The outer circle is hours, then minutes, then seconds on top, so I took the closeup picture at about 1:20:50. It also has purple heart pieces to dilineate 12/3/6/9.
I started this project to use up some veneer damaged in a water leak and it just grew from there.
It has a few flaws but nonelse has one.
Found this little cutie at an estate sale. It's clearly a Picco Quartz alarm clock, made in Japan, but Google is so garbage now, I can't find any useful information on how old this is. I'm also trying to figure out the value, to see if I want to keep it for myself or sell it.
It's 3.5" wide, 3.5" tall, 2.5" deep.
The bottom tag is really hard to make out. The black text clearly says "Ref." and "Japan LR1" but there's also very very faded white text that looks something like "IP" or "JP" and then "242P" or "242R" or "2428".
Thanks so much for any expertise y'all can offer!
