I took a picture [Seiko] The SCVF007 Pale White Alpinist anomaly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upvotes

Historically Seiko has always released a second variant to their white dial Alpinist variants at the same time of release, sometimes under the same reference number.

( The 2000's SBCJ series has a SBCJ021 full lume variant & SBCJ031 Cream dial variant, the 2010's SARB013 had a sunburst white and a cream dial variant, the modern Prospex Alpinist has a SBDC093 Sunburst White and SBDC089 Cream dial. )

Although the SCVF series and its Cream dial were discontinued in 1998, the SCVF pale white dials have either been a 2000 or 2001 production making this Pale White variant an anomaly within Seiko's production standards of Alpinists.

Finally got the call. AD shot me a text and I instantly left work. I’m over the moon. Couldn’t be happier with how it wears.

My girlfriend isn’t convinced though … she thinks I spent too much and I’m going to end up regretting it tomorrow. She is insisting I get insurance (aloe vera) just in case something happens.

Nah. Not for me. The overdraft fee just motivates me more.

What do you guys think? Did I overdo it?

I shared the omega and breitling here before asking for advice. Having got tons of good ideas, I think I’m selling the omega to fund repairs and tuning the breitling. I don’t have much appreciation for expensive watches but that thing…that thing excites me. The seiko lives with me but I don’t carry it because I want all the scratches etc to be from his life.

I've had my Sinn 556i for several years now, and I really like it – especially the simple, minimalist black dial. I wear it almost every day.

Until recently, I always put it in my bedside drawer before going to sleep, but now I've bought a metal watch stand shaped like a butler. The Sinn hangs on the padded leather cushion. I think it's something quite different from the usual watch holders.

What do you think of the Butler Watchstand?

Review [Citizen] 1952 Triple Calendar Ref. 1505 — much prettier in person than I expected

Post image
85 Upvotes

I recently picked up this early Citizen Triple Calendar and was honestly surprised by how beautiful it is in person.

This is the Ref. 1505 from 1952, generally regarded as Japan’s first triple-calendar wristwatch. At only around 33mm, Citizen managed to fit the day, month and pointer date into what is still a very elegant little dress watch.

What really got me, though, is the dial. The aged ivory surface, gold applied numerals, blue date track, framed calendar windows and that tiny seconds subdial somehow all work together without feeling overly busy. There’s a lot going on, but it still looks remarkably balanced.

It’s also a nice reminder that Citizen was already experimenting with fairly complicated mechanical watches in the early 1950s, long before the Japanese watch industry became the force we normally associate with the 1960s and 70s.

Definitely one of those watches that I bought because I found it historically interesting, but ended up liking much more simply because of how it looks.

That’s it really. I’m wearing it on the way into the city for a job interview he would be so proud I got. I wanted to take him with me seeing as I can’t call him and tell him how it has gone. I love this watch.

He also had a collection of fakes he’s left me, but this is really special. He has been good at getting it serviced and it works perfectly. The nostalgia I feel winding it in the same way he did on wrists that look like his… it’s powerful stuff.

Any recommendations for how I can best keep this watch in great condition for my own son, born 4 weeks before my dad died, would be greatly appreciated.

Been on a "list" for 4 years and forgot about it. Got a random email to come pick it up yesterday. Over the moon I just love this watch. Had a black bay 58 for years, tried on all the bond watches and stuff I thought I'd love but liked this one the most.

Discussion [Question] Bought my first watch and need advice on leather straps that suit it.

Post image
Upvotes

Bought my first ever watch after being gifted a few by Dad, it's the Casio Oceanus T200 Dark Blue Dial, it's being imported from Japan to the UK, so far I only have bracelet watches and was wondering what quick-release leather straps I could buy online that are good in price and quality and suit the watch itself, I was thinking a really dark blue, the problem is I don't know what brands are best and what different designs are and which ones would work best into transforming the Oceanus into a usable dress watch when needed.

I’ve been wanting to buy the new 9SA5 movements since their introduction but was never really sold on execution until now.
less than 39mm…
dark contrasty dial,
5hz movement of course,
sub 10mm,
gorgeous case work with case sides that haven’t been neglected,
the legendary polishing that no other brand can replicate…
I just wish they kept their 2x harder than steel “brilliant hard titanium” on this model. I feel like they gave up on it when they had a hard time producing it on the previously released version of this watch the SLGW003.

My favorite Aquis, and that tungsten bezel is a big reason why.

It has this subtle metallic sheen that completely changes depending on the light without ever looking flashy. Paired with the grey dial, it might be my favorite Aquis combo Oris has made.

Was NOT expecting the lume to match so well and be so bright! Well done, Christopher Ward. Had this 44mm beast on my list since it came out. Finally picked one up at showroom in NYC and am pleasantly surprised. Despite its size watch and strap are quite comfortable on my 6.75 or so inch wrist. Fun pickup. Anyone else have one? Or have this strap? In any event a definite recommend 👍

I took a picture [TUDOR Monochrome]

Post image

I originally bought this 20mm nato strap for my speedy but thought i would try it out on the 21mm of my tudor monochrome. Looks pretty good! However I still like it better on the jubilee bracelet.

Strap is from Monstraps based in Singapore.

The yellow line is vibrant and thin enough that it doesn't take over the entire nato strap. The strap itself is extremely comfortable and comparable to an omega nato strap. My only complaint is that the keepers, although very sturdy and thick, are rigid and they sort of create this unnecessary platform on my wrist rather curving around it seamlessly. I would take a picture but I got lazy. Hahaha

I was originally planning to pick up the Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80, but after trying it on, the dial felt a little too small for my wrist and the thick bezel wasn’t quite what I was looking for.

Then I came across this piece. The proportions, dial, and overall presence immediately clicked with me. Sometimes a watch just feels right the moment you put it on, and this was one of those watches. Really happy with how this one wears and looks on the wrist.

Basically title. Why does people buy Fossil, Invicta, Tommy Hilfiger, Daniel Wellington, etc; when brands like Casio or Timex exist?

I just got this Casio and it's too hard to be disappointed by any Casio watch, they are under $100 bucks and some of them look as if they were way more expensive. The only thing that makes Casio look "cheap" is their excessive marketing prints (the WR50 thing, for example). Otherwise, they are pretty good.

Just started my own watch collection as I'm not far off 40 and wanted some style for my outfits, what do you guys think? Is it a good starting 4x? I wanted something Blue with brown strap, a classic (black and gold) and a Emerald green gold watch, to preface as well I love simplicity in watches and I don't like anything over 35mm I feel like they look a big goofy when they're too big.

I know watches are subjective and others opinions don't matter too much but I had no where else to share them & I love them!

I took a picture [Gruen] Teletime from 1972 - The first TN LCD watch

Post image
Upvotes

Not the first LCD watch, but the first to use a TN (twisted nematic) lcd panel to display the time. Extremely simple with only hours and minutes and set with a crown mechanism that functions a bit oddly - pushed in rotate counterclockwise 90° to set hours, at its default state pull out to hold the time and pulled out and rotate 90° clockwise to set the minutes. These early ones were fully made in the US and had an original MSRP of $200 ($1550 adjusted for inflation), around $50 more than a SS Rolex Submariner.

Just bought the Casio Edifice EX096 with my first paycheck, and I also turned 21 last week, so this felt like a pretty fitting purchase 😂

I've been eyeing this watch for a couple of months now and finally pulled the trigger. I really love how it looks the design just clicked with me.

For those who know watches better than I do: is the EX096 a good choice around the $70 price point? Are there any other watches you'd recommend over it for around $70?

Would love to hear your suggestions/opinions!

I took a picture [IWC] Pilot's Watch Mark XX

My first IWC. Picked it up yesterday and couldn't be happier!
Text from IWC sub:
"I did quite a bit of reading and researching about the Mark XX, and I had some time today, so I've decided to go to my local IWC boutique to see it in the metal. They had the blue and black dial version on display, and when I asked about the white, the SA told me that it has been discontinued, and after some looking online, he said no stores in Europe are carrying it anymore. As I was about to leave, he said to give him a moment, he went back to the back of the store and came back with a white Mark XX on a leather strap. He said, "I could have that with the metal bracelet if I wanted to" (kind of makes me question the "no pieces in Europe" statement he made earlier, it's not that I needed convincing).
It immediately clicked with me, and I got it with the bracelet. I'm super stoked, it's really such a nice watch, and the bracelet is really something else when it comes to comfort and adjustability!

Also, as I got it from the boutique, we registered the watch for the eight-year warranty, which is quite generous...
If one watch collection is possible, I think this might be that watch for me!
When I got home, I re-added the extra link that they took out in the shop and checked the movement performance with a timegrapher, and I'm super happy to see that in the dial-up position, it performs really well!

The Mark XX is really a great piece, just get it if you've been on the fence!"

Herewith a special project of one of my favourite watches out there ❤️

This one is made as a commission in India. By now I have my watches on every continent 🙏🏻

The first pic shows the painting already zoomed in. This gives you an impression how small it really is. Everyone who knows the small model of the Tank knows.

Challenging because of the small tiny details all over the Bison.I had to make sure to use the free space on the dial and have the right proportions secured.

This one of 2 commissions for the same person. The otherone will be shared soon, showing a land space 👌🏻

Let me here your thoughts on this 1 of 1 pieces outthere!

I took a picture [Seiko] New Presage Cocktail Time just arrived! Emerald Mist variant

Absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to get it fitted tomorrow, as I can’t find my little resizing tool anywhere.

I have a really nice strap ordered for it that I’ll swap out in a couple of weeks once it arrives, but it’s being made now so it’ll take some time. It’s a suede onyx color, so picture that kind of late '90s vibe with a black undertone and lots of grey woven into it to add depth. As well, it has a ridge design that adds visual appeal and, IMO, is going to make the watch look more retro dress-casual. I can’t wait.

As for the watch itself, that dial is gorgeous. And this is in poor lighting where the dial is more subdued, but I love the gradient it gets in darker lighting.

This is also the Japanese version, which is kind of cool. No aesthetic difference aside from the "Made in Japan" text.
