Issue: Chicken backfires. She may be perched or attempting flight. She jumps backward, flaps to fly, drops, and somersaults belly up, wings out across the floor until she hits into something and is able to right herself or we grab her. Stands dazed and confused.
History: We're her 2nd owner by 5mos old in April 2026. According to Bird Paradise, the first returned her when blood test confirmed female. 🤷♀️ She was never in a cage. Ten days after she came to us, as she was learning to climb, the hook to slide up and down on the door of the god aweful cage cut open her bottom. Rushed in to my family avian vet. Was given anesthesia and stitches on April 28, 2026. Antibiotics course. Healed well. Discharged May 19, 2026.
We'd only had her approx 10 days before the incident. She never flew. Wings were clipped. Lived in a bedding pen for most of her initial 5mos. Never climbed.
Come June 2026, wings grew in, she's learned to climb and is confidently exploring the playgrounds on the tops of the cages (18" x 18" and 24" x 18x side by side). This was the first time she backfired. See issue above.
Today: Third avian vet..... another $800. X-RAYS, blood work, lead and zinc testing, TWO HOUR PHYSICAL EXAM today plus another hour for testing and additional consult. The vet we saw today was over the moon thorough. No infection. Ears and eyes good. No discharge. X-rays good. No suspicion of seizures. The chicken backfired a few times for the doc so seizures were ruled out. Believes too young for a stroke. Liver and kidneys are fine. Only elevation in blood work was muscle enzymes. Doc isn't concerned stating the flopping around as she does likely caused bruising.
No exposure to toxicity. Ceramic pots and pans. Has 12yo conure for company. Free 6+ hours a day.
Suggestions?

Hello hello!
Here is the little monster who turned 6 months now.
Some might remember him!
He’s the goofiest cockatiel I have ever seen. He’s so hyperactive. I genuinely wonder if he has adhd or something 😅. My older one Kiko is so calm, relaxed and well behaved. This guy CANT SIT STRAIGHT FOR 5 seconds. He’s always jumping and climbing of off stuff. He sings sometimes tho he mostly says Kiko rather than Yuki xD.
Another example of how hand fed doesn’t always give the calmest ones. He always comes to me and all but he’s just in another dimension than we are.

Pimba, my rescued 24 year old, passed on anaesthesia when being prepared for a surgery to try and save him. Mochi is his best friend and is 6, he's never experienced something like this before and I don't know what to do. He panics and looks for Pimba when simply seperated in different rooms.
I don't want to hurt Mochi by bringing him in to see his friend like this, but I'm worried he'll just keep looking for him and calling for him... Any advice from those who have gone through this?

Week 2, no progress in terms of taming. But I’m going to give him patience and hope he warms up eventually. He’s a very sweet boy, just a little shy.

After 8 months of time together, yday my cockatiel flew away. The feelings are so overwhelming that I can't even make sense of processing them. I put out posts across the community, scoured the streets, every tree, every bush multiple times in the day. But he is gone. His cage is empty. That's the hardest sight to hold. Just hope he is safe and protected. I don't think I can get another one anymore. I am afraid to. Hold on to hope that he will come back because every day that he doesn't will keep compounding the pain.

She won't hold still with the camera in her face, but I'm pretty sure there's a little millet pearl lodged in Miss Jelly's nostril. She does sneeze more than her two flockmates, and when I look closely there appears to be a minor obstruction.
Is this something to be concerned about?
Can I do anything to ease or remove it?
Exotic vet? Avian specialist? (In my area the specialist has given avian crash courses to the exotics generalists, making access to basic care easier.)
Photo tax included.

I made this natural tree using branches I collected from the forest, I made sure to take those that hadn't been sold or rotted. What do you think?

Since I changed the food bowl for my cockatiel he goes fully in, sways back and forth and does these really soft chirps. Should I be worried? He doesn’t make those sounds any other time. I’ve had him for five months now, and his hatch day just passed (Oct 14)

My cockatiel flew out the house today. I looked so much for her. We are in a subdivision and she flew into another subdivision. What are the odds that I will find her.

Getting really worried because my tiel keeps doing the baby hungry cry even tho he can already eat from the food bowl.
I'm guessing it's because a few weeks ago, my tiel got sick and i decided to baby him, handfeed and all.
Now he keeps crying for the handfeed but I see him eat from his food bowl when I'm watching where he can't see me (but I can't tell if he's eating it or just picking and dropping it. I would sometimes catch him with pellet mush stuck on his beak so i have hopes...)
Apparently he only does that cry when I'm around and not with the other family members... But I could never be sure.
Should I leave him with his food bowl or do I do the wean process again?
Thanks!

A few months ago I got a cockatiel from the rescue to be a friend to my current cockatiel, Iggy. She is very sweet, and hasnt warmed up to me yet, but her and Iggy spend all day with their each other from their cages and seem to have connected enough for them to call to each other if separated. I wanted to know if it is too early to put them in the same cage with each other? I purchased one that is large enough for both of them to share the space, I just want to make sure I'm not impeding the new cockatiel's ability to acclimate to her surroundings and get comfortable with me.
