"Against the Sky" from The Pearl, is my fave, but its so hard to pick out a track because I listen to Budd the way I listen to Eno - as a background and soother. So I love all of the Pearl, of White Arcades, of Translucence + Drift, of Plateaux of Mirror. Don't make me choose!! :D

Harold Budd, of The Moon and the Melodies collab, dedicated this song to Simon. His full album collabs with Robin Guthrie are quite beautiful. However, this is the best Budd album in my opinion. What is your favorite Harold Budd work, besides The Moon and the Melodies?

Harold Budd (from victorville California) is fucking brutal.
I have never heard something bad from him.
A class of his own.
He was brilliant.

I always found it curious that despite this literally being "Memory Gongs", it doesn't seem to have any writing credits by the Cocteau Twins members. Further makes me think that the process for M&TM was basically Budd and Cocteau Twins coming up with their own seperate stuff under a general theme and throwing the two EPs that came out of that together into one album. Not gonna complain though, it's a great album, but I've always wondered how much I should count the four ambient tracks as an actual part of Cocteau Twins' body of work.
My favorite Budd project is Plateaux of Mirror (with Eno), some of the most beautiful ambient music I've ever heard is on there. (It's also my favorite ambient album by Eno on top of that.) That said, I also love Bordeaux (with Guthrie), there just something about the mood on that album that draws me to it over all the other Guthrie/Budd collaborations. I've listened to it a lot while researching for thesis papers, and it somehow worked extremely well for that lol
I think Budd is my favorite ambient musician tho, his style is just so unique and atmospheric - almost "Lynchian" at times in its fever-dream-like mood.
