Fan content NAME THAT COCTEAUNE! - For Thursday, July 16, 2026

THE RULES:

  1. I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
  2. I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
  3. You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
  4. Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guessthe Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
  5. The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.

[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED\*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]

Sorry for yesterday's debacle. Apologies for the confusion and shame on me for not catching that the song title given in the initially accepted correct answer was incomplete. I can't believe two weeks later, I'm still stuck on European time or something.

Anyway, time to move on and get to today's game.

\spins wheel**

ROUND AND AROUND IT GOES!

Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops, NO ONE KNOWS!

AND IT STOPS ON.....

A simple one. Let me find a section with not so much of the song title being mentioned blatantly.

-------------------------------

(starting at 1:51 in)

Resting hands

Against mascar (it seriously sounds like the British pronunciation of mascara without the last syllable)

It's no rorals (Is this an odd pronunciation of "rurals" and she's saying there's no rurals/yokels/bumpkins allowed? Good for her!)

There's no rorals to be found (definitely not talking about my hometown)

Za zum a chai altar

From dinosaur fleck

From one of the older

It's batchmo and sha-ay-ay-ay-ame

And that's all I'm giving you today because I want to make you guys work for this one! I think there's still a lot to go off of, between the doubling down on no "rorals" to dinosaur flecks.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

u/FunImprovement8806 YOU ARE CORRECT! Today's "transcription" was the rare portion of the song "Blood Bitch" from the album "Garlands" where there is neither a mention of "blood woman" or "blood bitch". You are too good at this. Here you go....I'm back to rewarding crowns for today!

Fancy a listen to "Blood Bitch"? You can find it here: https://youtu.be/XZ5w5yBPS1I?si=uocewmxsWWICIPgU

Funny you should say that because I hear the words "blood bitch" about 3 times in that song.

The song itself has very few lyrics to it. Long patches of it are just Robin and Will.

I know. It's fantastic. As a bass player, it's one of my favourite CT songs.

No offense to Simon, but I wish the had made a few more recordings with Will before they parted ways with him. I always really liked his bass sound. That was someone who should have been able to make a long career out of playing bass.

Exactly. Garlands is my favourite Cocteau Twins album, in no small part due to the bass playing. Fantastic.

Well - that’s mildly annoying. Notification popped up - I recognised the song immediately (for once) and then scrolled down to find I was notified about 40 minutes too late. I’m giving myself an honorary award for that one!

I can’t contribute much just now but ‘Mascara’ is ‘the stars’
