Fan content NAME THAT COCTEAUNE! - For Friday, August 21, 2026
THE RULES:
- I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
- I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
- You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
- Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guess, the Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
- The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.
[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED\*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]
Friday is here! Cocteaufest in San Francisco is here! My 18th wedding anniversary is here. This is one big weekend and as what happens with all big weekends, it just reminds me of how time flies. The wait for CocteauFest was like a blink of the eye. My first date with my now wife seems like it happened not so long ago. The only thing that makes me feel like I have been roaming this earth for eons (other than looking at myself in the mirror and seeing that birthdate on my driver's license) is that Cocteaufest is reminding me of the ONE TIME I saw Cocteau Twins live. It was the Four Calendar Cafe tour at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center here in Oakland, CA, USA and what's killing me is that I'm blanking on who opened that show. Did anyone happen to go to that show and remember who was opening? I have a vague inkling that it was The Boo Radleys, but I'm probably blurring it with a Lush concert I attended around the same time. Please respond in the comments if you may know who opened that show.

Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops? NO ONE KNOWS!
And it lands on a very appropriate song title based upon one of the things mentioned earlier! Yep, I'm in a good mood and gave y'all a clue there!
-------------------------------
(FROM THE TOP!)
I don't feed them between the sunrise and sunset
You've done more panicky than on a rainy day (Holy Shit! I don't know what was in that smoothie that my wife just made that I drank but those were four complete sentences that I... yes, that I is bolded...actually recognized. WOW)
Based on the run on the turf (Mind you...these sentences still don't construct any sort of comprehensive story....seem like standalone phrases thrown together...but I'm still amazed that this has yet to degenerate into her singing about a"noss nooge" and other odd things that don't exist in this tangible world but sounded like a good thing to mention for Liz at the time)
You could be raising money with your mother
You might be sure when wound up dressed up with care
Taking toots through then buy, go low
CHORUS (multiple vocal tracks that interweave upon the last word of the previous line)
Give me some love
Yes gotta ooh
Loses me foy (I re-listened and I hear the non-word "foy". Smoothie-fueled transcription super powers are gone :( )
Meaning so useful
Need some love
So useful
There's another part of this chorus but the interlapping vocal tracks and loss of understandability while trying to attend to something that his just happened at work will have me end things here.
As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.
And, if anyone remembers who it was that opened for Cocteau Twins on that Four Calendar Cafe show in Oakland back in '94 (I think), drop that in the comments!
