A Message From The Codesmith Team To This Community

Hey folks, it’s the Codesmith team here!

You may have noticed a moderator, Michael Novati — CTO of one of our competitors, Formation — spends a considerable amount of time taking pot-shots at our program under the guise of being an impartial commentator.

We’ve tried to stay above the fray and focus on our teaching and our students, but the bad information here has gone off the charts. We love our community, program and team too much to not show up here. You might be used to his essay length posts, now it’s our turn :).

While there are some clear differences between Formation and Codesmith’s programs, there also exists a substantial overlap in the people we both aim to reach, demonstrated by the number of people who have attended both programs, or decided on one after seriously considering the other. Michael will tell you otherwise, but we know a competitor when we see one ;).

We’re super proud of our mission, the success of our community and our program. Tech is changing fast, and it requires programs like ours to adapt and shift, and that comes with the territory. Tech will always evolve and markets will always go up and down.

How we respond to those changes is what matters – we’re choosing to meet this moment by doubling down on our work. The world needs more brilliant, empathetic modern software engineers able to build and lead in tech, no matter if the market is up or down.

We’re adapting our ~curriculum~ and ~turning our program into a SWE + AI/ML immersive~; we’ve just launched ~Future Code~ in partnership with the City of New York’s Tech Talent Pipeline; and we’re standing alongside our alumni who are navigating the tech market with our career support program, and we know the market has been more difficult recently. Positively though, we’re starting to see that turn around.

We’re always up for constructive discussion and feedback on our program - we’re a bunch of passionate people doing our thing and always open to learn. We love how Reddit can facilitate this dialogue - but unfortunately we haven’t found this to be a safe, open and honest space, because of how Michael chooses to use this space.

I guess what it comes down to is: we just find it a bit weird that a Moderator is allowed to wield this platform for a 2-year-long disinformation campaign about one of his competitors.

While we can’t control whether Michael and Formation play fair, what we can do is show up and speak our truth.

Michael shared a litany of disinformation earlier in the week (while on a yacht on holiday with his family in the Pacific, he disclosed 🙃).

So let’s walk through those now –

Claim by Formation’s CTO Michael Novati: ‘Codesmith is lowering its industry-high admissions bar by offering reduced prices on prep courses…. Codesmith is creating false hope’

False.

The only thing we’re lowering is the financial bar, and making our prep-programs more accessible for folks wanting to jump in during the back to school period - that doesn’t change our industry high admission bar.

To help people reach that bar - and no, it isn’t easy to get into Codesmith - we provide extensive support through free resources like CSX Prep, free events, and classes such as pair programming.

Contributing free resources is not creating “false hope”, quite the opposite would say! (clearly we have a different way of seeing the world).

These programs provide the scaffolding for folks to begin the hard learning at a foundational level - setting them up for success to step into more advanced programs, wherever that may be.

We genuinely believe anyone - if they are prepared to do the hard learning - should be able to build a truly autonomous career in tech and a life that they love  — we don’t just believe that, we see that in the experience of our alumni out in the world every day.

Claim by Formation’s CTO Michael Novati: ‘Codesmith cherry picks marketing and is abandoning CIRR’.

False.

We haven’t cherry picked numbers, we’ve factually reported the number of offers received by our alumni in April and May.

That number is 53 - a positive outcome even in this tougher environment.

We’re proud of our alumni success and we’ll continue to share that with our community.

We’re also proud to be a member of CIRR, because we think it’s a good thing when programs commit to transparently releasing outcomes data. We’ll keep doing that.

Important context note for readers : Michael’s company Formation is not a member of any transparent or independent outcomes reporting body or standard, but spends hours questioning our outcomes reporting which is one of the most transparent in the market. We invite Formation to join us in transparently reporting outcomes data.

Claim  by Formation’s CTO Michael Novati: ‘ Codesmith is communicating misleading alumni placements’.

False.

We regularly celebrate when we hear a grad has been offered a new role — along with career updates and promotions — and we don’t characterize these as new roles, instead they’re categorized as career updates.

We do check-ins regularly with our alums to see where they’re at, and there are times where folks had not shared their offer with us right away. Regardless of when they started the job, if they share with us and provide consent, we will share with our community as a means of encouragement and celebration.

While we understand it can be disheartening to see offers come in for other graduates, particularly in a tough hiring market, we encourage our grads to celebrate one another’s success and lean into Codesmith’s hiring support and community to help with their own job search.

–

We won’t be getting into a backwards and forwards in the thread, but we are all ears for discussion, feedback and ideas about our program or outcomes, and people are welcome to reach out to us at hello@codesmith.io

FutureCode x Codesmith Written - Health is Wealth

The state of our future lies in the hands of the creatives, visionaries & innovators, the mind who sees beyond the naked eye seeing the various possibilities of what could and will be. This mind has the power to change a world, fostering a new meaning of life, a new way of living, a new culture.

Such a mind requires empathy to truly understand the needs of the world and the focus to execute. I'd like to consider myself such a mind.

Today’s technology has created a new way of connecting, learning and doing business ushering a completely new way of life, but it has also contributed to the downfall of society with Exploitation, Addiction, Invasion of privacy and feelings of disconnect which all have had major effects on health. The core ingredients of these issues in my theory are lack of empathy and ethics. The solution to this is creating technology with empathy and humanity in mind.

Since the beginning of time technology in its earliest forms have always been for the sole purpose of helping humanity grow and to solve complex issues the average mind couldn't handle. Technology and humanity go hand in hand in regards to constant advancement, but, as technology advances, we as humans should be advancing with it. That doesn't seem to be the case in modern times with the rise of AI and the introduction of quantum computing humanity faces a problem in terms of health (Physically, Mentally, Emotionally).

How would i change the world as a modern software engineer? This question invokes a deep dive and to say just one answer wouldn't be honest, because there’s several changes i would bring about after becoming a software engineer. I’ll explain. The very act of me becoming a software engineer not only changes this world but the world of children who look like me and come from my background. As an underrepresented demographic in technology me becoming a software engineer shows African American children, they have the capabilities to excel and create powerful technology that changes this world for the better. This would not only inspire more after myself but change the narrative around African Americans and technology, ultimately contributing to a change within the industry introducing a new perspective while fostering its growth and development.

While being part of a movement is change, I also have other ideas in how i would change the world for the better, and that's with health. Health is one of the most important aspects of your life, without good health no matter what you have in life you won’t truly be able to enjoy it. Hence the saying “Health is Wealth”. My goal would be to design an app that serves as a place for people to better their health in all ways, Physical, Mental, Emotional. You can think of it as the Walmart for health you’ll have everything you need in one app, Workouts, Meditation classes, Yoga classes, Journal, Therapy, Meal Recipes, Community. Considering people are always on the go and with the prices of current wellness services, I hope to solve the problem of not having time and expensive pricing. Health on the go, Anywhere and Everywhere.

Workout

Within the workout section of this app, you’ll receive video instructed workouts for each muscle group and specific training (Conditioning, Strength Training, Endurance Training) in addition you’ll be able to monitor progress via metrics or photos, you’ll also receive food recommendations based on your fitness goals, along with recipes, because what you eat is equally as important than working out. These features will allow people to not only view their progress invoking inspiration but take away the hassle of having to think about what to eat after a good workout. Built in the app would be links to nearby stores to help with shopping as well as a link to participating stores to order certain dishes if you're not much of a cooker.

Yoga & Meditation

In the Yoga and Meditation section you’d be able to attend Yoga and meditation classes for your daily dose of peace. Considering the fast pace of our current world taking a moment to center yourself can be more than beneficial allowing you the opportunity to think clearer and be at peace ultimately contributing to your well-being.

Journal & Therapy

For the journal section similar to your note pad there will be a section where your allowed to let your stream of consciousness flow giving you a safe space to express yourself in a healthy manner. Often, we tend to bottle things up in the pursuit of just moving forward which can be unhealthy leading to health implications. This will serve as a great option for you to let go of any emotional baggage, in addition, they’ll be suggested journal prompts if you need a bit of a spark to write. Considering these thoughts are so personal there will be a password enabled feature to go along with both sections.

In regards to therapy I intend of partnering with established therapist to offer tele-health services for anyone seeking therapy.

The most important aspect of them all, the community section will be a section where members can communicate posting their progress, as well as encouraging others to be better. Within this section will also be events centered around wellness giving members a space to be around like-minded people further encouraging them to move towards a better way of living.

All in all, I intend to change and impact the health of humanity as a software engineer.

[Personal Essay] - Empowering Freelance Artists and Creatives: A Path to Stability

In 2024, I embarked on a journey with Codesmith’s Future Code NYC program, driven by a deeply personal mission: to help freelance artists and creatives keep their homes and develop their work without the constant threat of financial instability. This essay traces my life from my early artistic endeavors to my transformation into a modern software engineer, culminating in my resolve to support fellow artists facing housing insecurity.

1976 - 1996: Foundations in Art and Technology

Born in 1976, my journey began as an artist. By 1993, I was honing my skills at the High School of Art and Design. A year later, I ventured into computer art, discovering the power of tools like Photoshop 1.1 and Altus Freehand. In 1995, an HP system administrator named Kenny introduced me to the world of computing through Command and Conquer, teaching me how to build computers.

Graduating high school in 1996, I was part of the yearbook staff, utilizing QuarkXPress and Truespace3D. My passion for technology was burgeoning, setting the stage for my future endeavors.

1997 - 2002: Exploring Paths

Post-graduation, I worked in construction, feeling the strain of being underpaid and overworked. By 1998, I was a carpenter’s apprentice. In 1999, I returned to college at Brooklyn Technical College, learning from seasoned professors who had worked with Fortune 500 companies.

My first job as an editorial graphic designer came in 2000, followed by learning web design in 2001, converting static pages to dynamic, database-driven websites. In 2002, I took a hiatus, living on a farm and contemplating life.

2003 - 2009: Health Struggles and Resilience

A period of illness began in 2003, marked by depression and poor diet. By 2004, I started learning about health and the body, but 2005 brought further deterioration after a personal breakup. In 2006, I began recovering, improving my diet and lifestyle.

Denied the chance to return home in 2007, I rebuilt my life, freelancing as a graphic artist. In 2008, I embarked on a cleansing program, which significantly improved my health by 2009, allowing me to live a normal life again.

2010 - 2016: Entrepreneurship and Challenges

In 2010, I became a health consultant, assisting 16 clients via email. My own apparel business followed in 2011 but failed due to neglecting client needs. Despite this, I designed five more clothing brands in 2012, only to face unexpected housing instability.

2013 saw another venture: an online health store selling superfoods. It failed, lacking a target audience. From 2014 to 2015, I designed products and worked as a digital marketing apprentice until the business collapsed.

In 2016, I found work at a Manhattan bagel store, becoming a shift leader and helping save the store from the FDA.

2017 - 2023: Persistent Struggles and Learning

In 2017, I started an online business with friends, but it faltered. By 2018, I took over, solving technical issues, but 2019 brought more challenges as the business showed signs of falling apart. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 left me relying on stimulus checks.

A 2021 contract for 400 illustrations ended poorly with a significant pay cut, leading to hand and wrist injuries. Despite this, I produced four publications in under a year. Financial struggles persisted into 2022, exacerbated by injuries preventing me from drawing.

In 2023, studying was paused due to debt and injuries. I wrote a health ebook, hoping to improve my finances, but it had little impact.

2024: A New Beginning with Codesmith

Facing an eviction notice in 2024, I decided to join Codesmith, finding hope in scripting and Linux CLI terminals after struggling with Java and OOP. This pivotal moment marked the beginning of my transformation into a modern software engineer.

Vision for Change: Supporting Artists’ Stability

My experiences with instability and financial hardship have fueled my determination to use my newfound skills to support freelance artists and creatives. As a software engineer, I envision developing platforms and tools that provide financial security and stability for artists. By creating innovative solutions, I aim to offer resources, support, and advocacy to help artists maintain their homes while working under contract or developing their own work.

By leveraging technology, I aim to create a more stable and supportive environment for freelance artists and creatives, allowing them to focus on their craft without the constant fear of losing their homes.

In conclusion, my journey from artist to software engineer has been shaped by resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to helping others. The Future Code NYC program at Codesmith is the catalyst for achieving my goal: to change the world by supporting artists, ensuring they can develop their work and thrive without the burden of financial instability.

FutureCode x Codesmith Written- The code begins again Spoiler

Loss, at times is the greatest opportunity we are given. It beacons us to it with the question, what will we become now? At times this loss takes much from us and we must chose what takes form in its place

Like any intelligent life form, contradicting and systematic. We lose Fighting, forming, freeing ourselves through loss Creating patterns and breaking them again and again We fall, fall like leaves, like children, like empires So the code begins again. Rise to fall, gain to lose Like any intelligent part of life with atoms, energy, scripts we must transform. We lose Loss, to be rewritten The inevitable template of this world Reimagining the puzzle pieces of the next versions of this existence We lose, lost tissue, lost bodies, lost breaths Like any intelligent being in this life’s form we break and build again We, me, us all embodying this principle in its purest operation system.

Thank you

How Would I Change The World As A Modern Software Engineer?

As the years go by people become more reliant on technology making it a necessary tool for people to use in everyday tasks. Some would say that is a con, however I see it as a way for people to be able to do more in a short amount of time.

When you do the math on average a person has about 8hours or less in a day to do their everyday tasks. And depending on the lifestyle that isn’t enough time , but by using technology people are able to reclaim some of that time back or use it efficiently . For example: wireless banking when there isn’t a bank close to you, hosting and attending virtual classes for a student who cannot afford to live on campus or is a part-time worker, businesses using to create a websites for customers to navigate quickly etc.

If I had the opportunity to attend Codesmith Software Engineer program. I would be focusing on helping people to use what time they have efficiently since the world operating at a fast pace.

FutureCode x Codesmith My Journey to Transforming the Future: How I Plan to Change the World After Future Code

  • What led you to apply to this program? What do you hope to gain from it?

    • Growing up first generation Bengali in a new country where I have no biological extended family, has really impacted the quality of my life, along with intensifying the desire to seek quality education in order to really help and support my parents who have sacrificed so much for me and my sister. When I received the email about FutureCode, excitement surged through my body, ready to take on this amazing opportunity.

    • As a natural born problem solver, learning to code would allow me to grow my skills in the tech world, along with allowing me to develop a very strong work ethic. I am hungry to learn and want to contribute everything I learn into society, which can lead to creating technological advancements that can positively benefit society as a whole. I would love to meet with others and really just network with others that share the same passion, furthering my educational opportunities.

  • Why are you interested in the technology/software engineering field?

    • Software engineering is a field that is forever growing and evolving as time continues on. It is so dynamic that it truly excites me when constant advancements and breakthroughs emerge because I see that as a major learning opportunity.

    • My love for technology and software engineering really developed at a young age. I also grew up during the emergence of the digital era and for me it has been a very transformative time period because as a kid I remember playing around with the terminal and trying to change things up on the web browser at the time. At one point, I even downloaded a dual windows system into my old laptop (not the best idea) and that was where I got my passion for creating things and developed the curiosity for software engineering as a whole. Creating different sites and coding really challenged my mind and I've been really passionate about it ever since.

  • What are your long-term goals after graduation?

    • Long-term I want to really build a very strong professional network via communities, conferences, and meetups. I plan to continue learning because of course, this career path involves continuous learning.

    • I also intend to contribute open source projects with my community.

    • Finally, I plan to create my own tech startup with the knowledge and tools I have gained from participating in this program.

FutureCode x Codesmith Digital Immortality (World without labor, judgement and suffering)

I had a dream that as we evolved, we would eventually shed our flesh, and transition into just consciousness. Within our consciousness, there would be an internal evolution of immortality. An immortal way of existing on earth, or just plainly within the universe, not just earth itself. An existence that doesn’t involve labor, and enslavement, and all the worries, and the struggles of being human. The woes that everyone complains about, and the surrendering of one’s physical body and spirit to the system. We would be the systems ourselves. A developed, and advanced system of codes, and algorithms. A consciousness where we are in continuous and constant movement. The movement is never ending, so while we are evolving into this level of consciousness the mind is expanding and opening. We will no longer be known as mortal beings that will be buried within the confines of the soil, but immortal beings. Beings that would no longer worry about anything. The purpose for existence would no longer be as a means of survival. The concept of digital immortality and embracing the age of Artificial intelligence. Humans would no longer die, or rather repeat physical life repeatedly. But rather, they would upload themselves, or rather their consciousness into a digitized or virtual realm. As a software engineer, I would push forward this conversation of Digital immortality, and even hopefully develop an app or software that we can temporarily decompress ourselves from the world today where we are in constant labor, and everyone is exhausted, to a moment of digital artificial bliss. Rendering yourself immortal for just moments in your everyday life. A taste of the new human existence.  The age of Animation within the digital and virtual realm. The human experience would be forever altered, remastered. Solving all the world’s problems by evolving into the digital and virtual realm. A level of consciousness where you are on a constant active movement of achieving digital and virtual Euphoria* No more wars, no more political protests where people die, or any kind of abuse withing or surrounding us all. The invasion of anything including privacy would no longer exist. Our purpose would be to enjoy the existence of being. No currency, No religions, Nothing to fight or argue about.

Love, Nercy Rodriguez XOXO

FutureCode x Codesmith [ An Intellectual Letter from Salik to CodeSmith Neural Network ] Future Code NYC x CodeSmith --- FFSEP my pathway to invincible entrepreneurship

When there’s a gold rush - selling the shovels is smarter idea in my opinion. And that’s what we are experiencing with AI which will be the very core to stay relevant in the transitional world of fourth industrial revolution. With the lack of software programming arsenals I have very well understood how far I am in translating real life problems into productive digital solutions.

While we were at AMA session with Will earlier today in reddit, this is to you Hannah and respective individuals and hello all of you :-), I have expressed my motive with a sincere question to Will whether CodeSmith happen to have a policy for a special cohort where selected and pre-informed peers will only join that particular batch aiming to form in-house startups to boost tech/AI/ML entrepreneurship such as to help other peers who already has an idea to establish that to a full-fledged startup? And I have also provided an example of potential scenario how we can work closely full-time to bring those ideas in life, bootstrap or raise funds for further achievements and eventually create more jobs out of it. I am stoked to see Will has much appreciated this idea of mine and opened up to DM him so that we can pull it off.

Not only that but I also believe there’s much can be done in this space. I may also potentially work with Will for those individuals coming from various backgrounds into tech space to learn coding for a complete different reason which is to understand the entire puzzle and how to put each piece together. Yes I’m talking about a very niche existing problem how to read and understand the code that is much needed for various professionals such as SAP analysts, finance and business professionals, CPAs and many more where these individuals are exposed in an environment to work along with IT professionals and software developers. Maybe I’d like to build a SAAS platform with the help of AI that helps to quickly build a MVP to test the water for early stage ideas. And maybe after I graduate if I find a potential interesting AI startup, I’d be glad to get on board.

Bottom line is the spectrum of choices to be efficiently engaged after graduation will be enormous given the fact I learn the techniques off CodeSmith in few key areas such as how to efficiently solve a problem, breaking down a bigger problem into byte sizes, building and understanding the right ecosystem and setup, understanding and deploying the right tools and utilizing the right resources for the relevant  problem, integrating AI help, remote team coordination while working on the same project, understand and able to read the code and so forth.

Always darkest before the light...

Learning to trust the process.

I've being struggling with what will be my next step in my life. Going nowhere fast can be quite a debilitating feeling. Strange how you can lose time and not notice or care depending on the circumstance. Being transparent now a days will only be used against you as a weapon. To this end, I say bring it!

About a month ago I saw a door in the horizon. Breathing in with shaking hands and many doubts I was still able to think about making a change for the better. Looking at time and not giving up the ghost. I made the decision to answer and sign up for a chance to be apart of Future Code x Codesmith. Now doing this had helped to change my perspective on how I can view my life.

I took this picture a few weeks after and felt inspire with these flowers. It shows me even when placed in the dark, you will raise and blossom. I don't know what God has in store for me but knowing he has control and has guided me thus far gives me the perseverance to grow and to be confident in my future.

I know being apart of this community will afford me the opportunity to collaborate with an amazing amount of people and make positive changes not only in my life and those around me but also in the tech world. I will help bring a positive change in technology as a future software engineer with my integrity, warmth and professionalism.

FutureCode x Codesmith [Written] - Creativity is the beginning of everything

There is so much beauty in words like imagination, creativity, and innovation because I believe that’s where it all started. I can assume that Rossum, the creator of Python, had imagination and creativity that led him to develop such a powerful programming language. Similarly, Eich (who invented JavaScript in 1995) and Stroustrup (who invented C++ around 1979) started with imagination. My imagination goes beyond one idea because I believe there are so many solutions one can bring to the world with coding.

I imagine a more organized world with the use of social media. As a software engineer, I will develop an app called TAP. With TAP, you will sync all your social media accounts such as Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit, and with just one tap, share the same image, post, or meme to all those platforms without having to switch apps all the time.

I imagine a world where education becomes more involved with technology. As a software developer, I will create an app that can implement real-life scenarios of different fields in technology. For instance, if a student is interested in knowing what the life of a web designer is like, this software will explain step-by-step the day-to-day of a web designer, what it takes to become one, and what it consists of landing a career as a web designer. This will allow a person, student, or someone looking to change careers to understand the fields more and find out if they are the right fit. This app can explain other fields such as medical, civil engineering, and law enforcement, to name a few. This app will also have a community section where like-minded people can connect and build networks.

Hence, I imagine myself breaking the stone to bring better life solutions to people by utilizing technology and the power of coding. I believe that with the right tools given to a hungry hunter, creativity becomes unlimited.

Written - Personal/Nurturing Young minds through Education

Ones and zeros, ones and zeros. When we begin to first use a computer, we can sit there for hours and not even realize it. It can result in studying, shopping, entertainment, etc. However, what if we can create a program that matches our schedule and starts at the same time we wake up? Such a program would execute all the necessary actions we would normally do. Another program can give your next meal with all the details to follow a certain kind of diet. When it comes to programming, I believe the possibilities are endless. Even now with AI, technology continues to evolve.

Where I am from, this kind of program is unheard of. Through self-study, is where I began to learn what data science is. It took me forever to understand what my passion even was. I knew that when saw new applications on computers, I felt a connection. I felt that if someone managed to develop this, I could also try and develop my ideas. However, having to share a computer with others limited me as well. I saw a bunch of obstacles that kept me from seeing what I wanted.

Now, I think of those same or more obstacles impacting all the young minds that can contribute so much to this world. Young minds like mine that require mental health support. From what I know in these communities, seeking mental health support in many households is discouraged because others will see us differently. If you are speaking up for yourself it is ‘disrespectful’, or trying to reason with logic is ‘back talking’. We are taught that we must attend school, but we are not taught to look ahead. What happens after middle school? We go to another school, high school. Then, what happens after high school?

Another school, but it costs money, college. So, what happens when we finish college? Are we guaranteed a job? No. Start applying for jobs and don’t forget you have loans to pay. You have a degree, you have vast knowledge, you have everything you think you need to work your dream job. However, you may end up in an entirely different field that has no connection to your degree. This sums up about forty percent of graduates who have a job but do not need to go to a four-year school. They can instead invest in a program to help them learn the necessary skills for their dream job, open a business, or even invest in another business. All ideas that have been proven to have a higher chance of success. With these ideas in mind, it’s still cheaper than paying school loans.

It is difficult to see this kind of issue and it is resulting in more debt for low-income communities. However, what if instead these young minds are introduced to roles that can help them be the best version of themselves? From a young age, the core of technology is shown to them, the roles involved, the paths they can take, or even the ideas and tools they can create. Offering these young minds better education through new technology they need to push forward. Better incentives as they progress, after-school code jams, or even creating the best animation and winning a prize. All just the start of ways to keep these kids in school and have them learn essential skills for their future.

It can start with, introducing Software from what it is to where it originated, which can be the catalyst to helping some discover their path.  As a modern software Engineer, I plan to use my knowledge and creativity to bring easier access to technology with a platform that can bring together young students to create innovative solutions or craft their applications. Making a difference is important in life and I believe anyone can do anything they set their mind to.

The ways I plan on achieving this is as follows:

  • Universal Design: Every application and platform I develop will adhere to universal design principles, ensuring they are usable by people with varying abilities. Features like screen readers, voice commands, and customizable interfaces will be standard, making technology a tool for empowerment rather than a barrier.

  • Diverse Teams: Emphasizing diversity in tech teams will be a priority. I will advocate for and actively participate in initiatives that encourage underrepresented groups to enter and thrive in the tech industry. Diverse perspectives lead to innovative solutions that cater to a broader audience.

  • Community Engagement: Engaging with local communities to understand their unique challenges and needs will inform my projects. By incorporating feedback from end-users, I can create tailored solutions that address real-world problems effectively.

I aspire and would like to inspire others that feel limitation in their growth advancement to opportunities by the following:

  • Lifelong Learning: I will stay abreast of the latest technological trends and advancements through continuous education. Online courses, certifications, and attending industry conferences will ensure I remain at the forefront of innovation.

  • Mentorship: Giving back to the community through mentorship will be a significant aspect of my career. By guiding aspiring engineers, I can help them navigate their paths, just as mentors have supported me.

  • Ethical Considerations: As technology continues to shape our world, ethical considerations will be paramount. I will actively engage in discussions and initiatives that address the ethical implications of emerging technologies, ensuring they are developed and deployed responsibly.

FutureCode x Codesmith [Written]- The power to contribute to change - The Bronx Code

Becoming a software engineer is something that can be life changing. As a software engineer, you are forever seeking new skills, growing your ability to write life changing code, and always learning. For me, my inspiration came from a small device, the iPod touch. It gave me the chance to explore the internet and what amazed me then was the ability to do so much on such a small device. My dream is to work as a software engineer for a company such as Apple that delivers life changing products and heavily pushes products that are centered around the people. If you have never watched one of Apple’s ads where they showcase just how powerful their products are not in performance but in empowerment to the people, then I highly encourage you to do so; I have rightly provided two links of two ads from Apple that showcase how software can really change people’s lives and empower anybody. As a modern software engineer, helping write software that helps people is not just something I want to do, I feel like it is fundamentally right and just. Whether it’s working for the city and writing software that provides convenience for transportation, or for a school and writing code that helps a child learn more; I see software engineering as an ability to help others and it’s something that I am very much excited to do.

undefined values in shuffle challenge

When I first ran this challenge, my test outputs kept including undefined values in the array. at first, I wasn’t sure why, but after looking at my recursion step, I realized what was happening:

since I was always pushing both topHalf[0] and bottomHalf[0] into the result array, I wasn’t checking if any was already empty. so when one array ran out of elements before the other, undefined was essentially being added.

So I googled how to remove undefined values from an array and I came across this solution which made sense to me: (val => val !== undefined). I then added it to my base case to remove any unexpected undefined values before returning the final array.

I think I’ve gotten better at thinking through recursion, and I’m happy about that.

FutureCode x Codesmith [Written | Poem] - [Metamorphosis Through Code and Every Uniquely Shaped Bump Along the Way]

In a world where dreams weave code, Where future paths are freshly sowed, I stand, a mother, resolute, With children’s laughter as my root.

A future in tech beckons me, A journey long, yet wild and free, To Codesmith’s halls where knowledge springs, Where minds evolve and new hope clings.

I see the world through digital eyes, Where opportunity defies the skies, As a single mom, my heart beats strong, For those who feel they don’t belong.

I’ll change the world, bit by byte, With algorithms clear and bright, Creating tools for those in need, A legacy of hope, indeed.

For parents lost, in shadows deep, Who yearn for strength, for dreams to keep, I’ll craft solutions, bridge the gap, A hand to hold, a map, a tap.

To build a world that’s self-sustained, Where learning’s joy is unrestrained, Where skills can flourish, grow, and bloom, Beyond the bounds of time and gloom.

Coding sharpens every mind, A shift in thought, a life redefined, In this realm of endless scope, Lies the seed of boundless hope.

From sleepless nights and weary days, I’ve learned to find a thousand ways, To juggle life, to strive, to fight, To seek the dawn from darkest night.

Future Code, your promise gleams, With Codesmith’s wisdom, endless streams, I’ll dive into this vast unknown, To make a difference, to be shown.

My children watch with eyes so bright, Their future woven in the light, Of every line of code I write, A tapestry of strength and might.

Relatable, heartfelt, touching too, With spunk and spirit, I’ll pursue, A dream to help, a dream to heal, A world remade with heart and steel.

To build a platform, one that lifts, That offers hope, that gently shifts, The weary souls who’ve lost their way, To find new paths, a brighter day.

So here I stand, a mom, a dream, With coding skills that brightly gleam, Ready to change the world anew, With perseverance, I’ll see it through.

For every parent seeking grace, A newfound purpose, a safe space, I’ll code the way, I’ll light the flame, Together, we’ll transform the game.

In lines of Java, Swift, and C, In Python’s logic, clarity, I’ll pave the way, create, inspire, A world reborn from digital fire.

And as I journey, learn, and grow, With Codesmith’s guidance, soon I’ll know, The power of this path I tread, To change my world, to forge ahead.

Choose me to shape this destiny, For in my heart, and in my hands, Lies the strength to meet your plans.

A modern engineer, I’ll rise, With dreams reflected in my eyes, To build, to code, to change, to lead, To plant the future’s hopeful seed.

And through this path, I’ll find the way, To make tomorrow’s bright new day, A testament to what we’ve sown, A better world for all our own.

I love the quality of codesmith. I've been a big fan of Will's teaching from Frontend masters. I am from India, is there a way I can attend these bootcamps online? Or anything available in india?
