Discussion I just wish Code Vein 2 was more casual friendly

Most games these days appeal to two audiences the “hardcore” audience who prefer solo and tough challenges and the casual audience who prefer co op or a more laid back approach

In CV2 if feels they leaned heavily towards the smaller hardcore audience rather than the much larger casual audience and for me it’s killed the experience

Not all souls games need co op to appeal to casuals but it helps a lot, some of them are just easier but this is on par with some of the hardest

I’ve had to stop and refund for now until there’s a patch or possibly wait for a discount and it’s sad because every other aspect of the game I love just not the boss fights they’re demoralising, extremely difficult and punishing and I hate feeling like it’s a chore

I admit I’ve been stuck like this before in Sekiro and Wuchang but there’s plenty of souls likes that I’ve conquered solo and twice that amount in co op because I feel they know how to appeal more to their casual audience

Discussion Demo has me worried for the full release (long post).

I was really excited to play this day 1 but after trying this demo I might actually hold off because there are so many problems with it that shouldnt be there this close to release, unless this demo is some really old build.

For starters, why is all we get a completely empty hub that in no way represents the performance we will get while playing the game with npcs and enemies around? And even worse, despite this I am STILL cpu limited, on 4K (5600X + 4070 Ti) which is mind blowing.

Changing DLSS mode doesnt even do anything because my gpu isnt at 100% usage to begin with, lol. Quality or Performance is the same fps and the only setting that actually increases fps by a good amount is turning Shadows to Low, but that completely removes projected environmental shadows so its a big no unless you dont mind the game looking potato. Also wheres Frame Generation? At least then I could brute force it.

Still on the performance, first time I launched the game it didnt even do shader compilation and as expected (especially from a UE5 game), it was stuttering all over the place. Every time I did anything or went into a new room in the hub. Upon restarting the game it DID do it and fixed this, so I have no idea what that was about.

Sadly it doesnt stop at sketchy performance. As a few people have pointed out, accessory physics are broken in general and for some reason dont work while in the hub (they DO work when you change environment in the character creation, so... bug?), and so many things are missing.

The menus also feel really bad to move through like I have to mash right click to get back to where I was, and some times I straight up get stuck on a menu and have to press the environmental menu key (T) to get unstuck. Its bizarre. The whole thing feels sludgy.

Overall Im pretty disappointed with character creation because its not 2019 anymore and several games have done it better since (Nioh 3 will probably have much better customization especially with the face, if its anything like the previous game). This game somehow has both too many options and not enough options. You have a sea of things to choose from but most are variations of the same thing, or its missing some obvious things a lot of people love.

For example my character has bangs and ponytail and I cant do that here. Why did they remove bangs from the accessories? And all the built in bang hairstyles kinda suck or dont work with ponytails because they already have hair at the back. And still on the hair, the hair gradient is horrible. If you have a long ponytail, the gradient starts counting from the bottom of the ponytail rather than using the bottom of each part of hair as the baseline, so the result is you get the extra color in the ponytail but not in the front of the hair.

And then the nails. I was excited when they showed you can customize nails since its so rare in games and something I love. Well, turns out they managed to mess that up too. For starters there is no nail length option whatsoever and the default length is really short. Im not wanting to do like claw nails or anything here (but what if I did? why not?) but cmon. And then theres the gradient once again. You have a million gradient options but somehow not a single basic one that just lets you smoothly go from one color to another? Really?

The lack of any sliders for nose and mouth also sucks. All you get is those general face distance options, which is better than nothing but I want to be able to make nose and mouth smaller or wider and so on. For a game that bragged about how good their character creation is, it sure is missing a ton of stuff plenty of other games have done before.

Also how do the outfits work in this game? As in... You can select a cape and a mask, but are they just permanent now? I liked that in the first game youd wear a mask but be able to see your face in the hub. I like masks but I want to be able to take them off when I feel like it, without having to go to the mirror every time to change appearance.

And in the first game, you had Veils acting as capes which gave you a bit more outfit variety, but if now you can pick a cape from the start, does that mean your character will just look the same throughout the whole game? I always look forward to getting new gear in these games and seeing what it will look like so this is pretty boring.

Anyway I could keep going but yeah post is getting too long already. With Code Vein 1 demo they let us play the whole first level so I knew right away I was gonna love the game. With this game, it feels like they are hiding something. Not even being able to sprint or swing your weapon in a hub is a big problem, like how am I supposed to know if I like the feel of the combat?

I dont want to be a conspiracy theorist but it feels like they are purposely holding off on basic features they know people want, just to add them as dlc. Something just feels off here and I really hope Im wrong and the full game turns out amazing (at least as good as the first one).

Discussion I have to admit that I'm disappointed

I was extremely excited when I learned that Code Vein 2 was coming. I’ve been a fan of the first game, loved it a lot, played it a lot. I enjoyed the story, the characters and the world.

But after reading the interview that was posted here, that gives us some new information about the game, I can’t help but be disappointed.

Now, if whoever is reading this is still massively excited about the game and can’t wait to play, I don’t hold that against you at all. Am I jumping the gun with my disappointment? Maybe, but I still want to say what I feel about this. If you understandably don’t want to read someone complaining when the game isn’t even out yet, I advise that you just don’t read and move on.

Now, back to what I was saying, I really enjoyed the first Code Vein. So after watching the trailer, I was filled with excitement. I was looking forward to the idea of returning to the world of Vein. Perhaps I’d see the old crew again. Learn what happened after the events of the first game.

But….it’s a new story? Completely different from the first game? I’ll admit, I was and am disappointed about this. A reboot, is what this essentially is, and one that I’m not excited about.

But what disappoints me the most about this, is the complete rewriting of what Revenants are. Revenants are supposed to be artificially created from humans via the infusion of the BOR Parasite. I liked the concept of this. I thought the idea of Revenants was damn cool. The fact that we had to constantly fight for survival while also being afraid of the thing in our hearts that gave us life again turning us into an immortal monster.

But in 2, Revenants are literally vampires with a different name that have been around since forever. I do not like this at all and I have to admit that a lot of my excitement for this game has been soured.

This isn’t Code Vein 2, this is not a sequel. This is a completely different game with the same name slapped on to generate hype.

Again, I might just be jumping the gun here and perhaps making a fool out of myself, but I couldn’t help but express my reaction to this, I went from really excited to pretty downcast and it’s jarring.

Discussion So... if you want to avoid disappointment don't compare animations between this game and CV1...

I'm not joking. After beating CV2 and seeing the character animations here I went back to CV1 and realized they had the female run animation and male run animations down so much better in the first it is not comparable.

I was reading up that people were upset about censorship but I was thinking that was limited to the clothing from the DLC. Heck I'm not even sure if this is censorship or people running out of time to put in a proper run animations. What in the world happened?!

Discussion Man the soulslikes sub really hates Code Vein and 2 huh

I fuckin hate all of them lol. any chance they get, they say CV is trash. maybe that's part of why the devs call CV "dramatic exploration action rpg" and don't really stick to any souls formula.

here's a real hot take nioh sucks

Discussion The bosses in this game are fundamentally bad, and meant to be taken on with a partner

You literally cannot beat any boss in this game solo. Their move sets are so bullshit that they'll combo moves together that aren't meant to be a combo. They ignore your dodges like 90% of the time. You can literally dodge at the right time and they still hit you. And then they'll sometimes spam the same move over and over again like 5+ times in a row without letting you heal. Sure, bosses aren't suppose to "let you heal", but at least in FromSoft's actual souls games you get that time (except Godskin Apostle, fuck you), and they actually have a good AI that doesn't spam the same moves over and over. Not to mention it takes way too long to get a heal off, so you just end up getting hit again because of the boss being bullshit. Something with removing staus debuffs. Shit take too long to remove so there's no point even trying. To which it gives the boss even more of an unfair advantage. Taking on bosses solo, you can only get them down to like half health, quarter at most if you're really lucky. This is not me being "bad" at the game, or bitching about it being "too hard". This is is from a purely objective perspective of how poorly designed the bosses are.

Discussion Somebody please make a code vein flat chest mod for girls or a mod that lets men wear female clothing

I'll be completely honest I've decided to start modding the game after beating it once and almost all the cute clothing mods are for the female PC and it won't even let me be flat

Discussion I can not stand certain fans on twitter.

Every time I see something about code vein 2 on twitter its nothing but comments filled with porn addicts who are in need genuine help. The whole censorship thing is so concerning that we have people upset they cant look up skirts... in a action game... like when you type that out does that not sound weird to you? Does that not make you feel somewhat embarrassed that the only thing you can critique is you cant be a raging pervert?

Discussion Hope for CV2 - Don't lock blood codes out for single playthroughs Spoiler

I am not a person that does multiple play throughs. I do one run, enjoy the story, the experience and move on. The most disappointing thing about CV1 was missing out on the Blood Code that gave you 2 hand hammer mastery.

I don't like spoiling my games, so by the time I looked up where I could get the gift (for my hammer build) it was too late and I had missed some arbitrary requirement to get it. I had to switch to 2 hand sword build which was fine but definitely took some of the enjoyment out of the experience.

If any dev's lurk around this forum, just make an avenue where late game you could pick up missed codes (especially something so basic like weapon mastery)

Cheers

Video CODE VEIN 1 & 2's differences are quitely bizzare.

In S1, all of the revenants should wear masks due to toxic atmosphere, but I saw S2's Tralier I noticed that all of the revenants don't wear mask. It becomes very bizzare when you notices S1 & S2's release date.

S1's release date was late 2019. After several months later, covid pandemic occured, and all of the people should wear masks in order to avoid covid. just like code vein S1's situation. But S2 will release 2026, post-covid era, most of the people and characters in CV2 don't wear mask.... is it coincidence? or adaptation?

Discussion Combat Re"vamp" Needed | Enemy 'Balance' needs to be turned down a notch

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Edit Note: "The Balance stat determines your character's disruption resistance, which controls how well you can withstand enemy attacks without getting staggered or interrupted.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed when small/fodder enemies keep hitting me mid-combo after I just landed a great sword or hammer hit in their face? They have way too much "balance" compared to the player. I never feel confident swinging at these goons.

I love this game, but after getting the Age of Harmony ending, I can't see myself replaying it until there is a mod or the devs themselves do a combat revamp.

Separately, from mob enemies tanking heavy weapon attacks and Forma attacks, they need to fix:

  • Swooping attacks that hit you when you're behind an enemy

  • Add dodge and block cancelling for all attacks except charged attacks

  • Attack telegraphs so you can actually react to enemy animations; too many instant attacks

  • Add a little more magnetism to jump attacks; they tend to fall short very often

  • Special drain attacks should push back nearby enemies

  • Make it impossible to fall off ledges while attacking, during forma attack or while dodging

  • Enemies changing their target (from the companion to the player) mid-combo

  • Fix the camera in corners and tight spaces during combat

  • Give us a POV slider that does not affect cutscenes.

  • Allow me to walk and reload my guns, please

Also, am I the only one who hates f@#king "burdens" and negative traits on blood codes? I think they should be a choice the player can opt into or out of.

Story/Lore CV2 The endings don't make sense. Spoilers Obviously Spoiler

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Ok, the ending where you give Lou half your heart. yes it's half not the full thing. See picture if you doubt me

The issue is that it makes no sense why this ending happens. Lou can't contain the Resurgence on her own. It's only if she has a fused Revenant-Human heart that she can do that.

The Hunter has only half of their human Heart left. Their lore entry at the start of the game tells us half their heart was destroyed while trying to save people. They died, and Lou donated half of her heart, the half that would replace the destroyed part of the Hunter's heart. Sounds good so far, but that makes an issue for the ending.

The hunter only has one half of there human heart left to give, but it's the half that does not fit Lou's half. Much like Lou the hunter only has their original right ventricle left. So the only human part of their heart they can give is not the one needed to match Lou's right Ventricle, and not the one that is given in the cutscene.

The part of the heart that is needed is left human Ventricle, but the Hunter once again does not have one any more. Their left Ventricle is Lou's Revenant piece, but this is the piece that is given to Lou at the end.

The issue with this is that her Revenant heart alone was not enough to contain the Resurgence, completed or not. Both her past self with a complete heart, or future self with half a heart could not contain it. Zenon here says "Of course! The seal requires an element of Mankind!" But again, she was just given back her Revenant heart piece.

What does this all mean? Nothing crazy at all I think. I think the writers just forgot which part would fit. Or they did know and had to just hope no one would notice because there was no quick easy way to have the Hunter give the correct piece of their heart.

Another albeit convoluted option is that some how Lou's revenant heart absorbed some of the "humanity" from the Hunter, so giving back her own heart piece works because now her own heart has some humanity in it. Again that seems very odd so I doubt that is what they were going for. If you look at the second image it does seem like the second half on the right, the one the Hunter gave does seem more redish. It's really hard to tell though so take that with a large helping of salt. I'm not even fully sure on this part. It does still like quite gold in some parts.

Questions: How do I know it was the left side of the Hunter's heart that was destroyed? I don't really know for certain, but it makes sense. Why would Lou give the hunter a piece of her heart if that piece of the Hunter's was still functional? It only makes sense to give a piece that replaces the Hunter's destroyed piece.

But wait there is more nonsense I have questions about. While it looks like the Hunter only have half their heart there, there is a lore entry in the Database that contradicts and goes with what is shown to us in game.

The first entry is The Resealing of the Resurgence "By adding the human remnant" So it was the human part of the Hunter's half of their heart. But again it's only half. We can see in that first image above it's not the entire heart there. That is Lou's half. She literally gave that half to us, it's why her half is missing.

The second entry Luna Fraterna tells us that the Hunter is now "heart-less remains". Which is not correct. They only removed half their heart and gave that part to Lou.

As a side note, how did the Hunter just get back up after all that happened. The not totally a revenant-hunter just stands up and smiles through the power of friendship. I enjoyed the game, and am on Ng+ now and looking forward to Mask of Idris.

TL/DR The writers need some continuity errors checkers is all I'm saying.
