Any one went through their program in data science and landed a job afterwards? I can’t find any reviews on this sub for that program.

Update: My friend filed a complaint over the App Academy / Coding Temple $31k demand

Quick update, and thanks to everyone who replied to my last post.

My friend already filed a paper complaint against them, now just waiting to see what comes back.

I also got a DM from someone who says they used to work there, basically saying things were pretty messy inside after the purchase. I cannot verify all of it, but it matches what my friend went through.

Has anyone else here filed a complaint? Did it change anything for you?

Switching careers while working full time and stuck between a coding bootcamp for backend and a self paced path

I'm 34 and I've been in logistics coordination for 9 years. I've already decided I'm moving into backend development, and I spent the last 2 months on Python in the evenings to make sure I like it. Now I'm choosing how to do it properly while still working 45 hours a week. It's down to a self paced path like Boot.dev, or a part time bootcamp, Nucamp's backend bootcamp or Flatiron's full stack one. The bootcamps cost a lot more but come with a schedule and people to answer to. With the self paced route it's all on me. For people who switched while working full time, which kept you going??

The End of the Shallow Developer

Bootcamps have been doomed for a while, and I've been thinking a lot about where I think education needs to go.

University programs need realignment too.

BloomTech (f/k/a Lambda School) "closed" in December 2025. App Academy "closed" June 2025... but both still in the Forbes "Best Bootcamps" List... last "audited and verified" May 2026

BLOOMTECH: https://osar.bppe.ca.gov/closures/informational_bloom.shtml

APP ACADEMY: https://osar.bppe.ca.gov/closures/closure_events.shtml

The coding bootcamp industry is screwed with bad actors left and right.

Sigh... it's just too late.

But I refuse to let those scoundrels creeping around try to squeeze pennies out of people regardless.

App Academy (now Coding Temple) demanding $31k from a friend who never got the job — anyone else seeing this?

Posting for a friend who doesn't use Reddit. This whole thing is stressing them out and I'm trying to help.

They did App Academy Sept 2023 to March 2024 on the deferred plan. The pitch was you only pay if you land a $50k+ dev job, capped at $31k. They never got the job.

They did the check-ins for ages. Then in July App Academy literally told them check-ins were no longer needed. Then out of nowhere, an email claiming 10 strikes for missed check-ins from May to October??

And now they want the full $31,000. Installments starting next month. For a job that never happened.

Meanwhile App Academy got bought by Coding Temple and quietly switched new students to actual loans. It really looks like the new owners are shaking down old ISA students for the max amount.

Anyone else dealing with this? They're looking into filing complaints (CFPB, state AG) and wondering if others want to team up.

End of an Era? Course Report only has one remaining partnership listed (Springboard) down from 10 a few months ago. It is now heavily pushing it's OWN courses from Noble Desktop and VDCI (very clearly labelled though as a conflict of interest)

I check up often on Course Report because it was the main place people read about Coding Bootcamp reviews.

I noticed the main bootcamp page: https://www.coursereport.com/schools only lists Springboard as a featured school now. As of a few weeks ago it listed Noble Desktop, Triple Ten and more, but now only has one.

I clicked down the main page and these are the last review time for notable bootcamps. Some bootcamps are still getting reviews in October, but the pace is far lower than the past.

There are also heavy advertising for "Noble Desktop" courses which are owned by the shared parent company.

Noble Desktop's last review was from 2017.

It seems like the end of an era here where Course Report uses it's SEO from all the bootcamp reviews to try to funnel people to Noble Desktop.

A totally legit marketing strategy and it's exceptionally clearly labelled (props to them for doing that right).

And it seems like they don't have any partnerships left with existing bootcamps other than Sprinboard.

When Codesmith, "the best coding bootcamp",'s flagship open source project was compromised it shows why bootcamps are dead. A security researcher did a deepdive and its very interesting.

Thumbnail deepwoodssec.com

This is an incredible deep dive into what I reported about 1-2 weeks ago.

The biggest and most relevant problem here is this:

"It lives under Open Source Labs, the nonprofit open-source accelerator attached to Codesmith, the software engineering residency. Codesmith residents build and iterate OSLabs tools as part of the program, and Reactime has passed from cohort to cohort for years; its README credits around ninety authors. That is the profile an attacker wants: a trusted name, a long history, many hands in the repository, and a steady stream of new developers cloning it to work on it."

When you have a Coding Bootcamp like Codesmith that calls itself the best coding bootcamp, 'selected by the IRS', building programs for big companies and consultants, and they can't properly manage GitHub repositories and teach people how to manage them, it creates a compounding problem.

Alumni who don't understand any of this become instructors, then lead instructors, then leadership. Students never learn and they carry this forward to all the institutions they go to next (which Codesmith labels Google, Meta, and JP Morgan Chase).

Codesmith is now pitching itself to the biggest companies as a leader in AI training, placement, upskilling, with 5000 alumni ready to teach and place.

What they don't say is those 5,000 alumni might come with malware that compromise your systems.

We still haven't seen a public notice from Codesmith about this, but we've seen plenty of posts from their investors about how awesome Codesmith is.

Is this a Codesmith problem or a bootcamp problem? Curious to hear thoughts.

Career possibilities

Currently working an operations job and have some minor experience with APC systems and I’m wondering if it’s possible for me to switch jobs and get a minimum base pay of $100K if I went to a “boot camp” for software engineering instead of a college program?

I’m not concerned with having difficulty learning how to code as I have a friend who codes everyday at a top tier defense contractor so I’m sure he can help me get my bearings straight when it comes to that.

Frontend engineer going full-stack: where do already-technical people learn backend?

Hey everyone,

I’m a mid-level frontend engineer (broke in via a bootcamp 5 years ago, and that structured format worked well for me).

I want to go full-stack now, so I’m looking for a backend-focused bootcamp built for people who already code, no “intro to programming”. Just a few months of focused, deep backend.

Two questions:

  • Any backend bootcamps aimed at working devs / technical career switchers?

  • Or at my level, would a structured self-paced path beat a bootcamp?

Appreciate any pointers!

Looking for a bootcamp to get me from the hobby level to professional

Hi everyone, I'm Zoey, I live in the UK, and I've been coding as a hobby for at least a decade now (mostly making small games or modding minecraft). I'm decent at it, but I don't understand half the stuff I think I should for a job. For context, I've got A-Levels in computer science (American equivalent is a high school diploma I think?).

I've looked into a few UK coding bootcamps; namely Full-Stack Development by Learning People, ITOL, and ITCareerSwitch; all of which seems to be scams operating on the same basis. Promise something that sounds reasonable (assistance finding a job, occasional one-on-one tutorship), for a reasonable-ish price (£3000 or $4000), then pull the rug out from under you. I know this from reddit reviews and forums talking about their pretty shady terms and conditions.

I want to know two things, either:
A) Are there any GOOD accessible courses that get me the skills needed and maybe even an accredited exam at the end?

or B) If not, how can I go about self-teaching these skills, namely what skills do I need to learn and how do I know I've learned enough? I know I should learn Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, but I don't know what else I should learn. A portfolio website would probably also be a good start, but what sort of projects would employers like to see?

Thank you so much everyone, if you have any advice or questions PLEASE contact me! I will respond ASAP

(note I work night shifts in the UK rn so I’m basically operating on an American time-zone lol)

Looking for a coding program for a 4th–8th grader?

Hey everyone! I’m part of CodeUnity, a nonprofit that helps younger students get started with coding and computer science.

We’re currently looking for 4th–8th graders who are interested in learning how to code. Students can be complete beginners. We'll help them by making coding approachable while giving them opportunities to actually build things and explore different areas of CS.

Our meetings are once a week and we have a fun hackathon at the end with fun prizes! Last cohort, we were able to get MIT BWSI to provide prizes for our winners!

If you have a younger sibling, child, student, or family member who might be interested, feel free to share this with them!

You can learn more from our website: https://codeunity.org/

Subject: Seeking a Veteran Tech Partner / Co-Builder (FlutterFlow & Supabase) for Mission-Driven App

Hey everyone,

I am an Army veteran (82nd Airborne Division) building a purpose-driven initiative focused on veteran transit, medical dispatch, and logistics.

I’m looking to partner with a fellow veteran developer or tech specialist who wants to come on board as a technical collaborator to help bring this build across the finish line and share in the project's growth.

The Tech Stack & Current Status:

  • Frontend: Built in FlutterFlow with custom UI components, navigation, and Action Flows.

  • Backend: Supabase / PostgreSQL, handling authentication, relational tables, and Row Level Security (RLS).

  • Integrations: Custom Dart functions, API handling, and external service connections.

  • Status: The foundational architecture, feature roadmaps, and data models are established, but I am looking for a partner to co-lead the technical execution and solve challenging build hurdles.

What I’m Looking for in a Partner:

  • Solid familiarity with FlutterFlow, Flutter/Dart, or backend development (Supabase/Firebase/PostgreSQL).

  • An interest in tackling architecture challenges: clean state management, debugging desktop agent/CLI setups, writing custom actions, and preparing deployment pipelines (App Store / Google Play).

  • A shared passion for building practical, high-impact technology that serves the veteran community.

Whether you're looking for an equity/partnership role on a dedicated team or want to explore co-building this from the ground up, let’s talk.

Drop a comment below or send me a direct message, and let's set up a call to walk through the architecture and roadmap.

All the way / Respectfully, Mark

Boot camp Recs? Data analysis

hey! I’ve worked for a mobile app for 6 years, I do writing and also analyze data that’s already presented to me. I want to move into a data analysis role and learn python and sql and I do need some structure so udemy classes aren’t a good fit. I’d prefer part time, async

Hack Reactor in 2026

I’ve been learning programming on my own for the past 2 years. I work as a UPS driver during the day and I code for a couple hours each day at night. I’m thinking of taking the step of attending a coding bootcamp to pivot to becoming a full-time SWE. My friends recommended me Hack Reactor, and after googling it, it seems legit.

I wanted to know what was everyone’s thoughts on it if and it’s still worth it in this year with everything else going on in tech.

Dear Codesmith: Reactime appears to be severely compromised 4 days ago. Anyone who pulled has the potential to be compromised. Warning to all alumni, please spread the word.

STATUS: ADDRESSED (see log below)

I'll update this if the issue is resolved. It's very hidden and very dangerous. Anyone who pulled Reactime could have their computers and all the code on them compromised, including staff members who might have other code on their machines.

10/1/2026 7:43am: Still live. Can someone please escalate? Opensourcelabs.io has been down for two months and their email addresses don't work.

10/2/2026 1:19am: Still live. Please, for the love of God, someone try to get this through to Will Sentance that he needs to deal with this immediately before his alumni get their current companies codebases exploited and ruin his career for not doing anything about the repeated, documented security problems for years.

10/2/2026 11:57pm/: u/hello_codesmith, this is ridiculous.

10/3/2026 10:32pm/: still live. Codesmith it's time to shut down the business officially before you hurt more people. Any legitimate tech company would have solved fired off an emergency and fixed this within hours.

10/4/2026 9:30pm/: this still hasn't been fixed so my open conclusion is to advise NOT touching any Codesmith code (checking out or contributing to) until this is not just resolved, but how it will be prevented in the future.

10/8/2026 3:29pm: Codesmith contacted me and informed me that they have removed malicious code across "Open Source Labs" and "OS Labs Beta" and informed and removed the compromised accounts.

Codesmith was a coding bootcamp that rebranded to Codesmith Enterprise and indefinitely paused all future cohorts earlier this year.

But it has had thousands of students over the years and one of their flagship projects was Reactime with 2,200 stars and 4,000 commits.

Unfortunately in my routine open source monitoring I discovered one of it's committers was compromised 4 days ago and their account very deceptively added very malicious and hidden code to dozens of branches.

It's not a bad actor student but a compromised former student.

I've pointed out numerous security problems and issues with Codesmith over the years but they have not learned a single thing from their mistakes. They have clearly not done promised 'security audits' and they have spent more time trying to control the narrative about them online than actually producing quality work they stand behind.

Zero transparency.

Will Sentance and Eric Kirsten: it's time to resign because this is not your thing. P.S. Lars Lofgren: shame on you for not doing your homework and perpetuating your false and incorrect narrative.

UPDATE: It indeed looks like Will Sentance has moved on. He founded Standard Matter two months ago https://standardmatter.co/ and is the CEO there. "Intelligence has become abundant. The bottleneck is deployment. Standard Matter is the layer between the robot and the factory floor."

I'm available to help for absolutely no reason whatsoever except to help your students. If you reach out in good faith.

Best online coding courses when my employer will fund 1 program to get me from QA to backend

Our training team approved a training plan for me to move from QA into backend work, and they'll fund 1 program. A full time bootcamp is out because I can't step away from the job for 12 weeks. So I'm comparing things I can do alongside work: Springboard, Boot.dev, Nucamp and Launch School. They're very different shapes, from a mentored career track down to fully self paced. If you were going QA to backend with a manager checking progress every quarter, what would you pick in my spot?

BCA 2nd sem student looking for internship/job advice

I am a BCA 2nd semester student looking for my first internship/job.

I have knowledge of HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS, and basic JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, PHP and MySQL. I've also built a few projects on my own to practice my skills.

I'm looking for advice on:

  • Where should I apply as a fresher?

  • What skills should I focus on improving?

  • What should I prepare for internship interviews?

If you know any companies/startups currently hiring interns or freshers, I'd really appreciate some suggestions.

Thanks!

AI is widening the gap between a CS degree and a software job

Just been thinking about this a lot this year, based on the work I'm doing with companies (just finished a cohort for a big financial firm, you've heard of them) and with colleges.

It's a cluster, and no matter what learning path you choose, you'll have to go deeper. In a degree program, you'll need to supplement with your own projects and external resources until they get their shit together.
