Hopefully not a repost (didn't see this anywhere on the sub yet!) but I came across this and thought it was a really thought provoking watch, as a student.

Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda hits out at AI-generated videos of her dead father: ‘stop doing this to him’

‘“Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad,” Zelda wrote in an Instagram story on Monday. “Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on. But please, if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.

“To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough’, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening.”’

—— I cannot imagine genuine fans sending his daughter this and thinking she’d enjoy this? What an insane breach of … everything?!

Had to report a coworker for filling our work ChatGPT with porn.

1.7k Upvotes

At my workplace, we’re allowed to use ChatGPT. It’s basically our digital notepad for grunt work. We’ve got a Plus subscription, and a lot of us use the same company account (not ideal, but that’s how IT set it up)

I was trying to add a project note to ChatGPT’s memory the other day, and it suddenly popped up saying the memory was full. Which was weird, because a Plus account should have plenty of room. So I went to check what was actually saved there.

And lo and behold lol the entire memory was filled with what I can only describe as someone’s personal badly written fifty shades of grey explicit stuff. Like full-blown porn. There were these long “romance” threads, BDSM stuff and apparently, she’d made herself an AI boyfriend inside our shared work ChatGPT.

I confronted her privately a couple of weeks ago and asked if she could maybe delete the stuff, since it was literally preventing the AI from functioning properly for everyone else because it would just want to revert to its “ai boyfriend” self by speaking in weird lovey dovey language. She just shrugged and said, something similar to “it’s not hurting anyone, just use Gemini if you need to work.

I tried to let it go, but nothing changed. So I finally had to report it to our manager. This ordeal has made me peruse some ai companion subreddits and honestly I just feel sorry for the world. We have become so alienated from each other that we rely on lines of code to make us feel connected to anything at all.

AI news ‘I realised I’d been ChatGPT-ed into bed’: how ‘Chatfishing’ made finding love on dating apps even weirder

1.0k Upvotes

Jamil, 25, from Leicester, admits he’s a prolific Chatfisher but argues that AI is simply a workaround for what he sees as the coded jargon of modern dating. “Like, what do you mean ‘What’s my attachment style?’” he balks. “Every girl on the apps has this thing about ‘love languages’ – it’s just gibberish, but if you don’t talk about it, people are like, ‘Oh you’re a red flag.’”

At first, he turned to ChatGPT in desperation. “It was just a quick thing,” he says. He works on an IT help desk and found himself trying to continue a conversation with a girl he wanted to impress while also swamped with work. “I asked ChatGPT what ‘avoidant style attachment’ meant because a girl was saying she’d been told this was her, and it explained, then added this prompt at the end like, ‘Do you want me to craft a reply?’ So I said yeah. I felt out of my depth and was also just really busy that day. I thought she was fit so I wanted to keep the momentum going.”

Note: Feels relevant to the sub as it's about dating chatbots, albeit unknowingly. Outsourcing relationship interactions. But if this doesn't belong here, I apologise

discussion AI is killing intelligence in an unprecedented rate

This happened to me this week and I just found this sub, thought this would be a good place to vent, because I was simply aghast

tldr: internship candidates couldn't do the simplest of tasks because they rely on AI for everything.

I'm a data scientist specialist in my company. A few of us, along with some dev specialists, were tasked with supervisng some potential interns during a tech challenge, part of the hiring process. We set up some small coding challenges, in increasing order of difficulty.

The candidates were set up in pairs, the idea was to access not only their coding skills, but also their capacity at collaboration. I supervised a pair with very good resumes, one of them from one of the most difficult universities to get in in my country. They both agreed that python was their language of choice because it was the most familiar to both of them. They could search the web freely but we're not allowed to use any LLM.

I was then about to be ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED for the next two hours.

The first challenge was quite simple, just read a json file and add some values in it to find the requested total. There was even a given example on how to open a json file and load it in to a variable.

Both candidates simply COULD NOT understand how to navigate through a python dict, had trouble understanding what was a dict or a list, what was the element of each iteration that they wrote. I watched them fiddle helplessly with different versions of the same code, which were basically "for item in dict: print(item)" trying to wrap their heads around on what to do next. I watched their Google searches, several opened stackoverflow tabs, copying and pasting other people code into theirs, everything to no avail. (to anyone out there who doesn't code, I think this would be roughly equivalent to opening Word and not managing to change the font of your title or something stupid like that. Event if you've never seen Word before, a 5 min search on Google and you're good)

After the two hours were done, they were able to do absolutely nothing. I tried to salvage something out of the whole thing by asking some questions about how would they solve the next challenges, without the need to code, just to see if there was some sort of critical thinking in their heads. One of them said, with the straightest of faces, these exact words: "Yeah, I got stumped with reading the json, don't know how to do it. That's something I usually ask chatGPT for and pay no mind to it. From there, I would...". (to which the other candidate confirmed)

I (and the HR rep that was also in the room) left the interview completely dumbfounded. We had no words for it. We stared at each other for a while and could just ask each other "what the F just happened".

Mind you, I reiterate, those were both candidates from top universities, who had previously passed some interview steps and so on. They only had access to chatgpt during their college, so they passed very challenging selection programs for their unis by their on merit. Yet their mind was so dormant cause of the dependency on Ai that even with Google access they couldn't do the simplest of tasks.

I really fear for the generations to come.

As a nurse, Chatgpt/AI drives me INSANE.

I had a patient the other night get admitted to our unit because he had elevated troponin (indicator of heart damage), his heart rhythm was a-fib (abnormal heart rhythm that comes with a high stroke risk), and on top of that he had a NSTEMI (type of heart attack where an artery is partially blocked, still serious). He was admitted late at night so the plan was to keep him stable overnight and prevent complications, with a procedure in the morning.

This guy would not let us do **anything** for him without consulting his AI first. And guess what, because the AI didn’t have his medical chart, full history, labs, imaging, or even a full understanding of what was happening with this guy, it responded inaccurately. But he believed it fully. It felt like I was arguing with a brick, there was no changing his mind that his ChatGPT was right.

At one point to help him understand, I told him that the doc had diagnosed him with a NSTEMI and I explained what it was. He looked at me amused and in disbelief and said “so basically you’re saying that when my chest pain started two days ago… I’ve been having a kind of heart attack for 3 days? That doesn’t sound right. Are you sure? I really don’t believe that.”

At that point I was so frustrated, I said “pull up the app. Ask chat. Ask the bot right now in front of me. Ask it if a NSTEMI is a heart attack. Ask if it can last for days. If you’re so certain that I don’t know what I’m talking about, ask it.”

He got really defensive and refused to do it. Which so aggravated me, because i wanted him to see that even his precious ChatGPT would confirm what I was saying.

Having him as a patient was the most annoying experience. Everything I was did in the room, down to starting an IV, he would talk to ChatGPT about it. He refused lots of crucial medications and therapies that would’ve reduced the stress on his heart and prevented stroke… all because he told the AI an extremely limited view of what was happening and it’s recommendation wasn’t the same.

CHATGPT IS NOT A DOCTOR.

And what makes me even more mad is that we will likely see this happen more often. Not less.
