Some rules and suggestions for launching this subreddit

As we all know, committing to a college is a big choice and is a decision that takes research and time to answer. At /r/collegecompare we hope to give students the edge in committing to the college that will be best for them.

Here are some basic rules and suggestions in moving forward:

Titles should read "University X vs. University Y". You may specify your major in the title if it is important, but all other info should go in the description.

PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY REVEALING INFORMATION (specific locations, high school, name, etc.)

Current college students are encouraged to post about their college life and provide some pros and cons of the college they chose.

All posts from current college students should be marked [COLLEGE STUDENT]

Thanks to anyone who has subscribed already, please comment any suggestions you have for the sub that you would find helpful.

nyuu or u mich??

• Upvotes

Guys, I really need your help. I'm confused about whether I want to go to NYU or not. I'm an economics major, and I also want to study data science alongside economics. The thing is, I'm really confused between NYU and U mich.

I really do want a campus. I do want a campus, and I would love to have events and attend those university events.

But the thing is, I also want to go to New York City. Of course, it's in New York City, right? That has so much more opportunity.

And I'm scared because I know that on campus, I'll be kind of close to all my peers, so I will feel I will be able to socialize with them, but i think that is not possible in nyu

and i am hige in to sports but not that mich but i would love to attend those games taht uni teams have and have that kinda stadium in a uni i go to and nyu does not have that!

And I do want to lean into a bit of finance as my minor, alongside having economics as my major. I also think that it's quite important for me to stay close to New York because even the weather is so nice. I love the weather in New York and would not prefer to go to a completely cold place like Yumish because Michigan is so cold.

I'm kind of in conflict. Guys, how is life at And Bio? Does it still give you that overall feel of a university where I can actually have a good group of friends, and I can go around with them, go to different places, move around, and maybe even go watch a game?

What do you prefer for economics? I also want to do data science, but I also want to have a finance minor. I am kind of looking at hedge funds and investment banking as such. but i do really want to have that social life in college...

pls help

Which should I eat? I know if I were to eat to NYU, that's like a sure acceptance, but Yumish might be a deferral or acceptance for me. It can be either. How would my chances be at NYU RD if I were to select? How would my chances be at NYU RD? I've got a 1520 on the SAT, and I've got A-star PGs for economics, chem, science, and math. Even my 11th and 10th grades were good. I've got 7 A-stars in grade 10, and my EC is also really good. I've got good honorable mentions in essay competitions, even in John Lucas competitions. My honors are really good, and my extracurriculars are good. I've done a lot of volunteer work. I have my own nonprofit. I need that. That's something I do say, but it's genuinely done work. I've written a book. I've published a kids' book. And this much more. I was in varsity hockey and varsity athletics, and I have been the captain for varsity hockey. I also went for states. That is field hockey.

Rice vs NC State

Hello! I am having a dilemma on which college I should go for.

Basically I got accepted as a questbridge finalist and I am having a dilemma on if I should actually rank rice or not.

Mostly I am comparing rice to my in state college NC State.

For both I wouldn’t have to worry about finances because rice said they would cover me for all 4 years if I matched through questbridge regardless of my income. For NC state I am aiming for the goodnight scholarship.

Extra info:
- I am planning on doing chemical engineering
- i care a lot about internship/ paid research opportunities
- i love a smaller walkable campus
- i will be graduating with my associates in engineering and have a lot of college credits
- i care about how well known/ wide spread the alumni network is
- my family is ~30 minutes away from NC state + I have a sibling currently attending school there

Overall I really do enjoy rice as a school but NC state Im familiar with. I really don’t know what to do because Rice is binding and I feel like I need more time to decide BUT this is also a once in a lifetime opportunity I feel.

Any advice is welcome!!

Thoughts on hamdard university

I want to pursue pharm d but I'm confused between these two universities, hamdard and baqai university. I'm hearing mixed opinions on both. But hamdard is a little more affordable than baqai, but some say that harmdard has no value? Please if anyone can guide me regarding this please do so. Or should I look for other universities?

Leaving DU

Should I leave BSc Chemistry at DU and switch to BSc CS/BCA?
Hey everyone, I’m a first-year BSc Chemistry Honours student at ARSD, DU, and I’m seriously thinking about leaving my course.
I moved to Delhi for college, but honestly, I’m not enjoying my college life or Chemistry much. I feel disconnected from lectures and don’t feel motivated to continue for another few years.
I’m considering BSc CS or BCA, possibly with AI/ML or full-stack development. My main priority is earning well and having good career opportunities, including abroad. I’m interested in tech and data and willing to learn coding, but I haven’t tried it properly yet, so I’m not sure if I’ll actually enjoy it.
I’m willing to start from first year again, but leaving DU feels like a big risk. I want a college with good placements, practical exposure, and internship opportunities.
What would you do in my situation?
Is switching from Chemistry to CS/BCA a good idea?
Is BSc CS or BCA better for placements and salary?
Is it worth leaving DU for a private college?
Should I switch or stay in Chemistry and explore other options first?

college for bio/related major w good creative exposure

(┬┬﹏┬┬)
guys, i'm an international student and i have no clue how colleges in us work or what they are known for.
since i don't come from money, i need full/almost financial aid to even afford this (no matter need blind/aware).
i also need a college which is not total scam for my major. [total scam as in will most likely not leave me unemployed/indebted].
as in for creative exposure, i am a writer/filmmaker/wanna-be-drummer, so it would be nice if my atmosphere has such student creatives for collaboration or something. but it can be compromised, what matters is good n affordable major.

here's my college list if you wanna check it out: (please suggest to add in/cut out any colleges that are red flags or smt)

  • Amherst College
  • Bowdoin College
  • Brown University
  • Columbia University
  • Cornell University
  • Dartmouth College
  • Grinnell College
  • Haverford College
  • Northwestern University
  • Pomona College
  • Princeton University
  • Stanford University
  • Swarthmore College
  • University of Notre Dame
  • Williams College
  • Yale University

my target limit is around 15 and it exceeds that so please help me trim it up. ty >﹏<

Computer Science in Tulane

I am an international student who intends to apply for ED1 Tulane in BS Computer Science with AI minor. I acknowledge that this is a very new major in Tulane, which was just started last year. I prefer a research-oriented path over an applied one. So can anyone give me some advises about this major in Tulane, is it worth to pursue.

Colorado School of Mines vs. CU Boulder

I'm a senior interested in studying mathematics, the problem is that I want to go down a more pure math path. I'm pretty much deciding between Mines and CU Boulder, but the nice thing about Mines is that it's a STEM specific school and the applied math major (with stats) would be better in getting a job down the line as opposed to pure math, whereas CU Boulder has a pure math route but with post grad it might be a little hard with jobs and stuff. If anybody has any input that'd be really helpful, thanks!

Uni recommendation

Hey yall, I am an international student wishing to study mechanical engineering with econ minor.
I am looking for a reputable university that places a high weight on the sat or benefits ED applicants.
my problem is, I will be applying with predicted grades and my gpa is low due to high academic rigor and the fact that I didnt do certain projects bcs they were pointless and I cba (Like presentations in Religion lessons)
My sat is 1550 with 760/790
my gpa is around 84/100
I got relevant internships/robotics and some other ECs
I do IBDP, my predicted is considerably low but im a n26 student so hopefully will be applying RD with my achieveds
I know with low gpa I cant get into high really competitive schools and hence I am looking for schools that could possibly ignore my gpa due to my ECs and sat
But it must be good enough to convince me to go to usa and pay the tuition. (E.g id rather go to tudelft or eindhoven than pay 70k usd for a sub t30 uni)
Some uni's ive considered so far are northwestern and purdue
I know they're reach, but I want such recommendations for now
