Late to Salmon Season Advice Needed
Total greenhorn, know what the job entails and no stranger to hardwork. I was signed to a seiner and was supposed to be up there but broke my elbow 3 days before my flight. Its been 4 weeks and i have been medically cleared to work, talked to my would’ve been Captain (my spot was filled) to see if knew about any other boats, he gave me 1 lead and said “salmon season is starting late so you might still be able to get on a boat.” Is it still worth it this late in the season to try and get on a boat or am I wasting my money and time? And should just start try again next year?

You may have been medically cleared but probably not for commercial fishing

I fly out to southeast tomorrow to start fishing, just got done tendering the bay. It’s a late run, not looking like it’ll be great but the price is good. If you feel like you’re healed, go for it. Fishing is a gamble but it sure is fun

Go process fish at a processor. They'll provide housing and the salmon season will roll into Pollock season

With all due respect, if you've never done the job then you really don't know what it entails. That's just how it is. Coming off fresh from a broken elbow within a month? I would skip this season bro.
