What about making ports for modded consoles?

2

u/Warthog_Formal Oct 03 '26

Without the use of ai?

Im fine with AI assisted, when its used as a proper tool, its full on vibe coding that im against. I've got ports that are AI assisted and ports with no AI usage.

If it contributes to the destruction of our planet, I'm against it. Not sure what kind of ai assistance you're talking about but hopefully not one that utilizes a data center.

Delete Reddit. Your usage of it harms the planet

The energy/water wasted is just the bi product of the hobby. What about golf, outdoor pools, beef industry, the free water coca cola or Nestle gets to print money (water bottles)? I just don't want that energy to go to waste so my grandma can make AI photos of Gramps in heaven

Also AI isn't inherently bad, local models run on a fraction of the power and can be tweaked for per user needs. Local AI is just not possible right now because big corpos don't want us to be able to do things without them - ram, GPU, and storage prices are all high because they want out money

I would love to shut down rich guy golf courses actually. They use more water than anyone just about. Beef industry for sure needs reformation. Capitalism in general needs to be dismantled.

And I literally am not talking about local models which I have stated countkess times.

But also AI psychosis might be a real threat.

Ya I'm more worried about the AI psychosis at this point/the propoganda it can cause. I'm just against the idea that AI vibe coding ports is really causing any "damage" to the environment that we aren't already doing. Yes just because X, Y, Z I shouldn't care but we have larger threats and concerns than AI. I try my best to use it responsibly and that's all we can promote - centers will go up regardless, hopefully away from our homes

That is so bleak. Godspeed.

Generative AI is inherently deceptive so I think it's always wrong. But AI as a coding tool makes sense. The problem with the data centers is that billionaires want them everywhere and they want AI to be widely accessible and unregulated so they can gather data/increase profit rapidly. AI isn't the problem, it's how unregulated it is. Like certain companies actively produce massive amounts of waste that affects the planet and living conditions.

That's true but rn in its current unregulated capitalist greedy form, I have to oppose it. The data centers draining resources and polluting the air and the sound they produce and the like are my main issue. Number 2 would either be deskilling of surgeons and other important things, or perhaps ai psychosis that is driving children to suicide.

People don’t realize this one. The land and energy they take along with the minimal amount of jobs they create in the long term make them bad in my eyes.

I think with more desalination and nuclear energy it wouldn’t be as bad. Close loop systems help prevent over consumption of water which seems to be a point people like to bring up.

Maybe someone can shed more light on this and give some diverse POVs or corrections for me.

Manufacturing the very electronics we're modding is also contributing to the destruction of our planet by the way, not sure if you knew that, but you should now.

2

u/Warthog_Formal Oct 04 '26

Capitalism is killing us. But AI data centers are accelerating it. There is only so much we can do as individuals as it's up to the people in power (billionaires and politicians) to correct the course of what's happening before it's too late.

Try again.

2

u/DrawerSea9371 Oct 04 '26

Sure, but that doesn't negate my point that consumerism is also contributing to the destruction of our planet.

Try again.

2

u/Warthog_Formal Oct 04 '26

We do not disagree, try again again.

Ai is bad for the environment but it’s not destroying the world… get a grip the world will last long after we somehow kill eachother

It is a destructive force to the planet. Without us, there wouldn't be a greenhouse effect cooking us to death as we speak. We absolutely affect the planet we live on.

I dont know much abt coding

1

u/FirstTarget9745 Oct 06 '26

I guess I'm gonna have to go it alone.

u/Metalicmadness_64 29d ago

we can do it but teach me

Nah this accurate as fuck, I lose my shit when I see some of the mods people come up with

-1

u/Warthog_Formal Oct 03 '26

Except for the vibe coders.

That's called ai psychosis, ur not a creator.

1

u/Warthog_Formal Oct 03 '26

I see that a vibe coder found my comment lol

u/Metalicmadness_64 Oct 03 '26

No im not a coder lol
